We Can’t Wait for Afcon to End – Lagos Wives

by Folarin Kehinde January 17, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

Some women in the Igando-Ikotun Local Government Development Council Area of Lagos State, on Sunday, wished for an end to the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon.

In separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, some said that the control of who watches what on the television had made it impossible for them to watch their favourite television shows.

Nkechi Uba, a POS operator, told NAN that the Super Eagles performance at the tournament had made it impossible for her husband to ignore the tournament as he did before.

“My husband pays so much attention these days since the tournament started, most especially with Nigeria’s performance, he now takes pleasure in analysing the matches.

“I just can’t wait for it to end, after watching Nigeria’s match he still watches other countries’ matches, why? Where does his loyalty lie,” she said.

Olamide Taiwo, a businesswoman who deals in children clothes, told NAN that her consolation was in the fact that she has to wait for a repeat of her programmes.

“If not that Zee World and Telemundo always repeat their shows, it would have been more painful, but at least I watch it again.

“I understand that it’s not all the time that my husband drags the remote with me, but DSTV has done it so that you can catch up on all the shows.

“Although I still can’t wait for it to end because most times my friends are calling and giving me spoilers, at least I get to watch it again,” Taiwo said.

All other women spoken to about the AFCON expressed the same feeling as they can’t wait for the competition to end.

The AFCON, which kicked off on January 9 would end on January 6 in Cameroon.

Kingsley Orji told NAN he doesn’t think that most men like to disturb their wives during such tournaments as they would rather watch with friends at a bar.

“Naturally, most men will rather watch at a joint, where they can drink and exchange banter with fellow men and have a good time, but these women will think you’re out doing something shady.

“So, if missing their shows is the price they have to pay then so be it because once you watch at home they are rest assured that you are not up to anything,” he said.

Jerad Okon, a taxi driver, told NAN that although he doesn’t mind watching at viewing centres, his wife makes it comfortable for him whenever he is home to watch the matches.

“She won’t even mind if I’m home, I am rarely home due to the nature of my job, and she makes it comfortable and ensured my beer was available.

“We don’t have to fight over who handles the remote, we understand each other that AFCON comes once in two years or so, she will do anything to make me watch at home, he said.

After their first two group matches, the Super Eagles’ next match in Group D against Guinea-Bissau comes up on Jan 19. (NAN)

Netflix is expecting multiple nods in the 2022 film awards season, with exciting titles like Squid Game, The Power of the Dog, Arcane, The Hand of God and other notable titles earning massive profits. So it may be fair that the streaming company gets an extra slice of the cake.

Announced today, the price increases will see Netflix’s standard plan increase by $1.50 in the United States to $15.49 per month. In addition, the premium plan – with four streams and the offer of 4K Ultra HD content is getting hiked up by $2 to $19.99 per month. While the basic plan is going up to $9.99 per month.

In Canada, prices were increased proportionately to their neighbors below the border: the standard package increased by $1.50 CAD to $16.49 CAD per month, and the premium plan rose by $2 CAD to $20.99 CAD per month. The basic plan, however, went unchanged.

A Netflix rep said the following in a statement to Reuters:

“We understand people have more entertainment choices than ever, and we’re committed to delivering an even better experience for our members. We’re updating our prices so that we can continue to offer a wide variety of quality entertainment options. Modern Science Reveals Female Mosquitoes Have 100 eyes, 48 teeth and 3 hearts

by Folarin Kehinde January 15, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

Unbelievable right? But the miracle of science and research has revealed that a female mosquito has 100 eyes on its head, 48 teeth in its mouth, 3 whole hearts inside its body, and 6 blades in its proboscis.

Astonishingly, each of this organ has its specific function.

Another feature that stands female mosquito out from the others is that it has 3 wings on each side, making it an insect with 6 wings, and is also equipped with an infrared “device” that sees human skin in the dark in purple, as well as military-like night-vision devices.

It is also equipped with a local anesthesia device so that it can pierced its needle without the feeling like it is sucking blood. It is also equipped with a blood test “machine” because it doesn’t like all blood types. It is also equipped with a blood transfusion device to help it suck through the thin opening of the proboscis and is also equipped with an odor device that senses the sweat of a person from 60 meters.

And the strangest thing about all this is that modern science has discovered that on the back of a mosquito lives a miniature insect that cannot be seen without a microscope.

When next you are bitten by a female mosquito, you may remember that you have been bitten by one of the most unexplainable insects in the world.

Nigerians React To Twitter Ban Lift: Say Move Is About 2023 Political Campaign

by Folarin Kehinde January 13, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

Nigerians have continued to react to the Federal Government’s move to unban Twitter, most describing the move as preparatory to 2023 political campaign.

In reactions monitored by LeadingReporters, while some praised President Muhammadu Buhari-led government move to lift Twitter ban as a move in the right direction, most people who reacted believed that the ban was unnecessary in the first place.

These crop of respondents believe that it was easy to understand that the ban lift has everything to do with the next general election campaign, going by the timing.

“The President must have been under pressure from his party men to unban Twitter since campaign for 2023 elections has started. I will revenge the ban with my PVC”. A respondent who identified herself as Emmanuella said

While some claimed that the ban never stopped them from twitting, others believe that Buhari government remains very insensitive to the plights of ordinary Nigerians who depend on social media platforms to eke out their living.

“The ban never affected my twitting. This ban was more about Mr. President’s ego. We have a President who expects others to tolerate him and his cluelessness but doesn’t want to tolerate others’ criticism of his ineptitude”. Responded David.

Recall that President Buhari banned Twitter when the later deleted one of the President’s posts which it said contravened its community standards. A move that irked the President and thus earned Twitter a ban in Nigeria.
