Former Governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, has died following a period of illness.
A family member confirmed his death to reporters, saying the former governor passed away on the morning of Monday, October 19, 2026, at a hospital in Abuja.
The family member described his death as a devastating loss to his relatives and the many people whose lives he touched during his years in public service.
Uduaghan, a medical doctor by profession, held several key positions in the Delta State Government before emerging as governor in 2007.
He served as the state’s Commissioner for Health between 1999 and 2003 before being appointed Secretary to the State Government, a position he held from 2003 to 2007.
He succeeded former Governor James Ibori in 2007 and governed Delta State for two consecutive terms, leaving office in 2015.
During his eight-year tenure, Uduaghan oversaw the affairs of the oil-producing state and remained a prominent figure in its political landscape.
His death marks the end of a career that spanned medicine and public service, with his contributions to Delta State’s governance forming a significant part of his legacy.
