2027: Ohanaeze endorses Tinubu for second term

by Folarin Kehinde January 13, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Ahead of the 2027 general election, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office.

Ohanaeze stated this in a statement signed by its Deputy President General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, on Sunday, where they appealed to the President to use his executive powers to facilitate the release of Nnamdi Kanu this 2025.

According to Isiguzoro, the release of the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, shall serve not merely as an act of mercy, but as a vital catalyst for restoring peace and resolving the current insecurity challenges plaguing the Southeast.

Isiguzoro maintained that the South-East deserves a path toward stability, noting that peace cannot be achieved in the shadow of violence and discord.

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation also advocated for the acceleration of ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction projects of dilapidated federal roads throughout Southeastern Nigeria, under Senator David Umahi as Works Minister, insisting that Southeastern infrastructure remains the backbone of economic progress and social cohesion. He added that it’s non-negotiable that these projects are completed before the end of 2026.

The statement reads, “The Apex Igbo Sociocultural Organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, firmly frames this critical discourse around the sanctity of Nigeria’s unwritten gentleman’s agreement concerning the rotational presidency between the North and South. This covenant, which stands as a pillar of our democracy, must not only be acknowledged but must be steadfastly upheld to promote equity and fairness amidst our diverse tapestry.

“With the conclusion of an eight-year Northern presidency under Former President Muhammadu Buhari, from 2015 to 2023, we firmly assert that it is now time for the Southern region to claim its rightful place at the helm of leadership from 2023 to 2031. This principle of fairness compels us to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in the upcoming 2027 elections.

“In our assessment of the current political milieu, the glaring weakness, disarray, and lack of coherence among opposition political elites expose a perilous landscape for governance. Individuals such as Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Nasir El-Rufai, Peter Obi, and Sim Fubara may mean well, but the reality is that their capacity to mount a serious challenge against the APC is dubious at best. It would be a reckless endeavor to engage in political maneuvers that align with figures who offer no substantive plan for progress.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo cautions that any attempt to co-opt our organization as a vehicle for misguided political machinations must be met with resolute resistance. The political ambition of the few should not be allowed to hijack the collective aspirations of the Ibo people. We cannot afford to gamble again on opportunistic alliances that have historically undermined our unity. Our people still bear the scars of the ill-fated endorsement of Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi in 2019, a move that has reverberated painfully through our communities and the fabric of our regional integrity.

Tinubu bans homosexuality in military

by Folarin Kehinde January 12, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Nigeria’s military personnel are now expressly prohibited from engaging in homosexuality, lesbianism, bestiality, cross-dressing, and other acts deemed contrary to the ethics of the armed forces.

The personnel are equally barred from body piercing, tattooing, disorderly behaviour, and drunkenness on or off duty.

This directive is contained in Section 26 of the revised Harmonised Armed Forces Terms and Conditions of Service signed by President Bola Tinubu on December 16, 2024.

A copy of the document obtained by our correspondent on Saturday partly read, “An officer must not engage in homosexuality, lesbianism, and bestiality.

“He/she is not to belong to, or engage in activities of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender or Trans, Queer or Questioning, Intersex, Asexual or Agender, Two-Spirit (LGBTQIA2S+) group and cross-dressing, amongst others.

“An officer must not engage in body piercing and tattooing of any part of his body. An officer shall not engage in any form of disorderly behaviour, brawl, or any action of public disgrace. An officer must not at any time be drunk whether on or off duty.”

The condition of service also forbids the involvement of officers in amorous relationships with subordinates or their spouses.

“An officer shall not engage in any amorous relationship with any soldier/rating/airman/airwoman, fellow officer’s or soldier’s/rating’s/airmen’s/air women’s spouse, “ it stated.

The military personnel are obligated to pay financial dues, including vehicle licenses and insurance on time, while they are prohibited from joining secret societies or political parties.

“An officer shall pay all just financial obligations in a proper and timely manner, especially those imposed by law and mutual contract. It is a very serious offence for an officer to be apprehended for failure to license or insure his vehicle, and other legal financial obligations. In the same vein, the issuance of a dud cheque constitutes an offence.

The document read further, “An officer shall not hold membership of any secret society or political party. He shall not participate, in any way, in activities concerned with such societies or parties even in observatory capacities.

“For the avoidance of doubt, since cultural or purely traditional religious societies are not normally secret by membership or in the conduct of their affairs, they are ipso-facto excluded from belonging to secret societies.”

Having a private business, and misuse of government property for personal gain are also prohibited for serving personnel.

“An officer shall not engage in private business. He shall not use or be allowed to use government property, his name, position and connection in any way with commercial enterprises outside employment or activity with or without compensation, which interfere or has the tendency of interfering with his official duty or which may be reasonably expected to bring discredit to the Service.

“An officer shall not accept gifts, favours, entertainments, etc, from officers junior to him in rank or from soldiers/ratings/airmen/airwomen,” the condition of service added.

The punishments or disciplinary measures against any personnel who violate the rules were, however, not stated.

Betrayed: Tinubu’s refusal to honour Seyi’s pact with us disappointing – Nnamdi Kanu’s family

by Folarin Kehinde January 3, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

“The truth is that Nigerian courts cannot, will not and do not have both the substantive and procedural jurisdiction to try him. His detention is without the backing of any known law in Nigeria or elsewhere in the world.

“It’s a shame that those who claim to be men of honour cannot honour their word.”

The family of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, have expressed disappointment over the failure of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to honour an alleged agreement between his son Seyi , and the family before the 2023 general election.

Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, in a statement, claimed that Seyi with the approval of his father, personally met with him in Abuja shortly before the election, where both parties entered into agreement concerning Kanu.

According to him, it was agreed that IPOB would not bycott the polls on the condition that Tinubu would release Kanu if elected President.

Prince Emmanuel expressed disappointment that nearly two years after the emergence of Tinubu as President, his brother (Kanu), has continued to languish in detention despite the fact that the presiding Judge, Justice Binta Nyako, had since recused herself from the matter.

He said it was disappointing that those who claimed to be honourable, failed to keep their words.

The statement read:”Before the last election, I received a message from an ex-governor that Seyi the son of President Tinubu wanted to see me. I agreed to meet with him on the condition that the overriding priority and hence the fulcrum of our discussion will be the release of my brother. The meeting was held in Abuja in the presence of another individual whom I asked along to witness the deliberations and if need be provide independent verification should the need arise.

“Seyi confirmed to me that his father sanctioned the meeting and that I should consider any agreement we reach as binding on the then candidate Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“In good faith we agreed that I shall relay the outcome to my brother to reinforce the long held tradition of IPOB not interfering with the conduct of elections, either through boycott or any other form of civil disobedience. This understanding was duly communicated to my brother and he reaffirmed his commitment not to stop the elections or order any boycott.

“When President Tinubu as a candidate visited Owerri during his campaign, he too reiterated his commitment to facilitate the release of my brother if elected. We took his public statement as a tacit reaffirmation of the understanding I reached with his son Seyi.

“At the end, IPOB did not call for election boycott despite having the capacity to do so. IPOB also made sure that discordant voices urging election boycott were overcome because election boycotts would not reflect well on the reputation of a global movement that prides itself on adherence to democratic tenets.

“It therefore, defies logic that nearly two years after President Tinubu assumed the mantle of leadership in Nigeria, my brother is still in detention despite not having any charge against him. It’s been over three months now that Justice Binta Nyako recused herself from the case yet no new judge has been assigned the case.

“This is on top of the fact that Appeal Court had earlier discharged him of the sham charges and ordered his release which the previous regime of Buhari declined to obey.

“Supreme Court determination that his bail ought not to have been revoked has been ignored by the courts and the government. The latest insult is that Abuja courts of all persuasion are no longer willing to determine the case of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu on merit but are rather relying on ludicrous and inapplicable technicalities to stall the timely determination of his cases.

“The truth is that Nigerian courts cannot, will not and do not have both the substantive and procedural jurisdiction to try him. His detention is without the backing of any known law in Nigeria or elsewhere in the world.

“It’s a shame that those who claim to be men of honour cannot honour their word.”

“Pray for Tinubu to succeed”, Ex-Kogi Gov, Yahaya Bello accused of N80.2 bn fraud advises Nigerians

by Folarin Kehinde January 2, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Immediate-past governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has appealed to Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Tinubu while supporting him with prayers to succeed in his mission to turn around Nigeria’s economy.

Bello spoke on Tuesday at the palace of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland in Okene, marking his first public appearance since he regained his freedom from prison where he was remanded by the court amid his N110bn fraud trial.

The former governor, who was received by a mammoth crowd of his supporters in the Kogi Central Senatorial District, harped on the need for unity and patience with the President.

Bello, who was in company with his successor, Governor Usman Ododo, said, “President Tinubu’s government needs time to tackle the challenges affecting Nigeria’s progress, and Nigerians must continue to pray for his success.”

In his own remarks, Ododo credited the success of his administration so far to what he described as the solid foundation laid by Bello.

He said, “The ability of my administration to pay prompt salaries at both state and local government levels stems from the resourceful economic reforms and visionary leadership of my predecessor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello,” Ododo said.

According to him, the reforms in the state’s civil service and the productive workforce instituted by Bello have been instrumental in driving sustainable growth and development.

Ododo also pledged to continue uniting the people of the state and delivering dividends of democracy across all regions.

“For us to succeed, we need the support of our people because I am ready to serve and will continue to do my best to unite the people of the state,” the governor added.

The Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Dr. Tijani Ahmed Anaje, used the occasion to call for peace and solidarity among Ebiraland’s indigenes at home and abroad.

Tinubu orders return of history as primary, secondary school subject

by Folarin Kehinde January 1, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Minister of Education Tunji Alausa says President Bola Tinubu has mandated the return of Nigerian History as a subject in basic education.

Alausa said this on Tuesday when he was featured as a guest on Channels Television’s End-of-Year Specia Review show.

“President Tinubu has given the directive for the return of history as a subject in primary and secondary schools from the year 2025,” Alausa said.

History was removed from the Nigerian school curriculum in 2008. The government replaced history with social studies, government, and civic education.

The decision was made due to a number of factors, including: Students avoided the subject, there were few job prospects for history graduates and there was a shortage of history teachers.

Meanwhile, quantitative data from existing studies quantified the repercussions of the removal of history from the Nigerian school curriculum in 2008.

Research after tracing the evolution of history education in Nigeria from colonial times to independence, said this study chronicles the rise (late 1940s) and fall (1970s) of the study of history.

The study categorizes the consequences of this removal into three key areas: nation-building and development, historical scholarship, and national consciousness and identity.

The loss of history had economic, democratic, and ethnic repercussions, impacting tourism, government accountability and transparency. Historical scholarship declined, and alternative subjects (social studies, civic and government) failed to foster national identity.

Despite these challenges, the study offers hope by examining the reintroduction of history into the curriculum by the Historical Society of Nigeria, addressing related challenges, and emphasizing the importance of history in nation-building, scholarship, and identity formation.

written by Folarin Kehinde

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been named THISDAY 2024 Man of the Year, an honour that recognizes his bold leadership and transformative reforms aimed at reshaping Nigeria’s socio-economic landscape.

The newspaper noted that since assuming office, Tinubu has tackled pressing national challenges with decisive policy actions, often making tough, unpopular decisions to address long-standing structural issues.

“His administration’s removal of fuel subsidies, economic reforms, and efforts to tackle security challenges have sparked widespread debate but underscore his determination to redefine governance in Nigeria,” the publication noted.

In his first media interview as president, Tinubu encapsulated his governance philosophy, stating, “You can’t be doing the same thing and expect different outcomes.” This ethos has guided his administration as it navigates the complexities of Nigeria’s political and economic environment.

“Tinubu’s leadership style, marked by resilience and a conviction-driven approach, has earned him praise for his ability to stay focused on long-term national interests despite mounting criticisms and hardships faced by the populace,” the newspaper said.

The THISDAY Man of the Year award celebrates individuals who have made significant contributions to national development.

As the 2024 recipient, Tinubu joins a distinguished list of past winners.

Bola Tinubu rank 3rd most corrupt President Globally

by Folarin Kehinde December 31, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

President Bola Tinubu has been ranked among the world’s most corrupt leaders.

This is according to a ranking released by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP).

The award comes after a global poll that sought to spotlight individuals notorious for promoting corruption and criminal activities.

According to the OCCRP, Tinubu came third in the poll, following Kenyan President William Ruto and former Indonesian President Joko Widodo. However, the overall “Person of the Year” title was awarded to Bashar al-Assad, the recently ousted leader of Syria.

Tinubu’s alleged role in entrenching a regime of corruption in Nigeria earned him this dubious distinction. His eight-year tenure as governor of Lagos, from 1999 to 2007, was marred by allegations of corruption and amassing wealth for himself and his family.

The recent controversy surrounding the award of a multitrillion-naira road project to a company run by his son has only added to the reputation that handed the Nigerian leader the award.

Tinubu’s alleged history as a cocaine dealer in Chicago and allegations of certificate forgery have also been cited as reasons for his inclusion in the OCCRP ranking.
