written by Folarin Kehinde

President Bola Tinubu has invited the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, to Abuja for high-level talks following the recent attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this at a press briefing held on Tuesday in Abuja.

Idris conveyed condolences on behalf of the President and the Federal Government to the victims and their families.

He stressed that swift and decisive measures are being taken to address the attack.

“Let me assure Nigerians that security agencies responded immediately to the incident. Troops under Operation Enduring Peace were rapidly mobilised to the scene following distress calls.

“The military and other security agencies cordoned off the affected area, secured key access routes, and launched targeted search-and-clearance operations to track down the perpetrators.

“These swift actions ensured that the situation was quickly contained and prevented further escalation,” Idris said.

He explained that these actions form part of a broader federal strategy to maintain stability across Plateau State and the North-Central region.

“The Nigerian Armed Forces have continued to carry out clearance operations and intelligence-led missions across vulnerable communities following attacks recorded in recent months.

“Reinforced surveillance and troop deployments have also been implemented in high-risk areas, supported by joint military-police patrols and strengthened rapid response mechanisms.

“These coordinated efforts are designed to neutralise threats proactively and maintain stability,” the minister added.

Highlighting the President’s proactive engagement, Idris revealed that Tinubu convened a meeting with top security and intelligence officials to assess the situation.

“A few hours ago, President Bola Tinubu held a high-level meeting with the nation’s top security and intelligence chiefs to review the situation and take further decisive steps towards arriving at a lasting solution.

“Following this meeting, the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has been invited by President Tinubu to further deliberate and chart a coordinated path towards lasting peace and security.

We’re Not Building One-Party State — Tinubu Assures at APC Convention

by Folarin Kehinde March 28, 2026
written by Folarin Kehinde

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday dismissed concerns that Nigeria is drifting toward a one-party state, insisting that a vibrant opposition remains essential to democratic governance.

Speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) 4th Elective National Convention held at Eagle Square, Abuja, the President said the ruling party has no intention of stifling political plurality, even as it continues to consolidate its influence across the country.

Tinubu stated that while the APC is focused on strengthening its internal unity and expanding its political base, it recognises the critical role of opposition parties in shaping national discourse and improving governance outcomes.

“We do not seek a one-party state,” the President declared, noting that democracy thrives on competition of ideas and accountability.

His remarks come amid growing concerns in some quarters over the increasing dominance of the APC and the wave of defections from opposition parties into its fold.

The President, however, maintained that the party’s growing strength is a reflection of public confidence in its policies and leadership, not a deliberate attempt to weaken opposition voices.

Earlier in his address, Tinubu called for unity and discipline within the APC, warning that political parties often falter when personal ambition overrides collective interest.

He described the convention as a defining moment for both the party and Nigeria’s democracy, urging members to recommit to the founding ideals of the APC.

“Our greatest strength has never been in our numbers, but in our unity,” he said, stressing the need for cohesion as the party prepares for future political contests.

Tinubu also defended recent electoral reforms, stating that amendments to the Electoral Act followed due constitutional process, including legislative scrutiny and public engagement.

On governance, the President reiterated his administration’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, acknowledging that ongoing reforms may be difficult but are necessary to reposition the economy for sustainable growth.

He cited improvements in infrastructure, fiscal policy adjustments, and signs of increased investor confidence, adding that inflationary pressures are gradually easing.

Addressing challenges in the power sector, Tinubu revealed plans to establish a Grid Asset Management Company to tackle longstanding issues such as debt and ageing infrastructure, with the aim of improving electricity supply nationwide.

The President further urged greater inclusion of youths and women in politics, calling on the party to open more pathways for leadership and participation.

He appealed to delegates and party faithful to conduct themselves peacefully and with integrity throughout the convention, warning against actions that could undermine party cohesion.

“At the end of this convention, our party must emerge stronger and more united. We are one family, marching forward with discipline and purpose,” Tinubu said.

He also commended party leaders, governors, and members of the planning committee for the successful organisation of the convention, urging newly elected officials to serve with humility, vision, and a sense of responsibility.

The APC convention continues in Abuja with key party positions expected to shape the ruling party’s direction ahead of future elections.

Insecurity: Tinubu orders service Chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri

by Folarin Kehinde March 17, 2026
written by Folarin Kehinde

President Bola Tinubu has directed Service Chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri, Borno State capital, to take charge of secuity situation there.

This follows multiple bomb attacks that led to the loss of over 20 lives and left more than 100 persons injured.

Daily Trust had reported how suspected Boko Haram terrorists simultaneously hit Borno around 7:25pm on Monday.

Reacting to the tragic incidents shortly before embarking on the historic State visit to the United Kingdom, Tinubu said Nigeria would not succumb to fear.

“The recent news from Maiduguri, Borno State, is profoundly upsetting. I mourn those who lost their lives, sympathise with the injured and stand in solidarity with the people of Borno during this challenging time.”

“I want to make it categorically clear that these acts of terror are the final desperate and frantic attempts by criminals and terrorist elements trying to instil and spread fear, as they are under constant pressure from our brave armed forces and security agencies operating in various theatres.

“We will continue to intensify our efforts against all criminal elements, wherever they may be.

“I must commend the courage and fighting spirit of our patriotic troops who successfully repelled the coordinated attacks by these terrorists on military positions in the state.

“The Monday attacks were desperate acts of the evil-minded terrorist groups. Our gallant military and civilian task forces will curtail and put them down.

“Just last weekend, during a security meeting with leaders of security and intelligence agencies, I approved additional equipment and operational support to enhance their capabilities. This effort is already in progress.

“Additionally, I have directed security chiefs to move to Maiduguri to take charge of the situation. I have also directed the emergency agencies to provide proper care for the injured. There is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety. We will locate them, confront them, and completely defeat them. Nigeria will not succumb to fear.”
