2027: Wike Establishes Radio Station For Tinubu Campaign In Rivers

by Folarin Kehinde February 7, 2026
written by Folarin Kehinde

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has established a new radio station, Majority FM 89.5, for the reelection campaign of President Bola Tinubu.

The radio station is located inside the Renewed Hope Ambassadors’ office in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The development came amid intensified political mobilisation for President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign in the South-South.

In a video circulating online, Wike is seen inspecting the newly launched radio facility, moving through the studio and interacting with staff. The station, according to sources, was designed to serve as a strategic communication platform for the Renewed Hope movement, a group widely known for its alignment with Tinubu’s administration.

“This will take messages from all over the 666 units of Rivers state, we are ready for this job, we are ready for 2027,” Wike said during the commissioning.

Political observers said the establishment of Majority FM further cements Wike’s influence in the state’s evolving political landscape ahead of the 2027 general election.

As of press time, Wike and the Renewed Hope Ambassadors were yet to issue an official statement on the operational direction of the station.

2026 budget: Borno Govt allocates N150m to feed sheep, goats

by Folarin Kehinde February 5, 2026
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Borno State Government has earmarked N150 million for the feeding of sheep and goats kept within the Government House, according to details contained in the state’s 2026 budget estimates.

The allocation, listed under recurrent expenditure, was captured in the approved budget documents published on the official website of the state government.

The provision is understood to cover the cost of animal feed and routine upkeep for the livestock maintained at the Government House.

A breakdown of the estimates did not immediately specify the number of animals involved or the duration the funds are expected to cover.

However, officials familiar with the budget process said such provisions are typically made annually for the maintenance of livestock used for official functions and ceremonial purposes.

The development has sparked mixed reactions among residents and civil society groups, with some questioning the size of the allocation at a time when the state continues to grapple with humanitarian challenges and post-insurgency recovery needs.

As of the time of filing this report, the Borno State Government had not issued an official statement explaining the rationale behind the N150 million provision.

Former NEXIM MD bags 490-year jail term

by Folarin Kehinde February 5, 2026
written by Folarin Kehinde

An FCT High Court has convicted and sentenced a former managing director of Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM), Robert Orya, to 490 years in jail over a N2.4 billion fraud.

Justice F.E. Messiri on Thursday sentenced Orya to 10 years imprisonment for on each of the 10-count charge after finding him guilty of the allegations.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had filed the charge through its counsel, Samuel Ugwuegbulem.

Orya served as the managing director of NEXIM Bank from around 2009 to 2016, during which time he had been credited with efforts to refocus the bank on supporting non-oil exports and turning around its performance after earlier financial challenges.

The EFCC had brought the 49-count charge alleging that Orya fraudulently diverted funds amounting to about N2.4 billion.

The Plateau State Government has confirmed the deaths of three additional persons from Lassa fever, intensifying concerns over the spread of the disease in the state.

The latest fatalities come shortly after the death of Dr. Salome Oboyi, a resident doctor at Bingham University Teaching Hospital (BUTH) in Jos, who reportedly contracted the virus while treating an infected patient.

State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nicholas Baamlong, disclosed the new casualties during an interview with Channels Television in Jos on Wednesday. He assured residents that surveillance efforts and public health interventions are ongoing in affected communities and healthcare facilities.

Baamlong explained that laboratory tests confirmed the victims were infected with the viral disease before they succumbed.

He added that emergency response measures have been activated to curb the spread of the infection and safeguard residents across the state.

EFCC Arrests Kannywood Actress for Using Naira to Wipe Nose

by Folarin Kehinde February 4, 2026
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Kannywood actress, Samha Inuwa, over an alleged case of naira abuse after a video showing her using currency notes to wipe mucus from her nose went viral on social media.

Operatives of the EFCC’s Kano Zonal Directorate picked up the actress on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, following public outrage generated by the clip.

In the viral video, Inuwa was seen wiping her nose with naira notes, an act the anti-graft agency described as currency mutilation and abuse under existing financial laws.

Sources within the Commission said the arrest was in line with EFCC’s ongoing enforcement against the abuse and defacement of the naira, which is prohibited by law.

The EFCC has repeatedly warned members of the public, celebrities and social media influencers against mishandling the national currency, stressing that acts such as spraying, tearing, stamping on or defacing naira notes constitute punishable offences.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and the actress is expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of inquiries.

The development was announced in a circular issued on Tuesday to affiliates of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Abuja.

Onitsha Market Owners Open Shop Monday, After Soludo One Week Shutdown

by Nelson Ugwuagbo February 2, 2026
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

Commercial activities have resumed at the Onitsha Main Market in Anambra State following a one-week closure ordered by Governor Chukwuma Soludo amid concerns over compliance with sit-at-home directives.

The market reopened on Monday under heightened security, with authorities reiterating warnings against adherence to sit-at-home orders issued by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The closure was earlier ordered by the state government after reports indicated that some traders complied with a Monday sit-at-home directive, prompting the governor to warn that continued non-compliance with government instructions could lead to further shutdowns.

Reports from the market on Monday showed traders returning to business early in the day, with many reopening their shops as early as 8:45 a.m.

Commercial activities were observed across major sections of the market, including Egerton, Ose Foodstuff Market and The Young Park, a key entrance to the Main Market. Other busy areas such as Emeka Offor Plaza, Sokoto Road, Lagos Line and Marine also recorded significant trading activities as customers gradually returned to patronize shops.

Observers noted that the development signals growing compliance with government directives urging residents and traders to ignore the sit-at-home orders and resume normal economic activities.

Wike Moves To Jail FCTA Striking Workers Over ‘Court Order Disobedience

by Folarin Kehinde January 30, 2026
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has applied for a National Industrial Court order to commit the striking workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to prison over their alleged disobedience of the court order.

Wike’s alleged disobedience by the workers arose from resumption of their strike despite an order of the court issued on January 27, stopping the strike until the determination of the suit instituted against them by the FCT Minister.

The FCT Minister has obtained Form 48, a legal document of the court, which spells out the consequences of violating the order of court, to be served on the striking workers.

Form 48 was obtained by his Counsel and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ogwu Onoja, on behalf of Wike, to compel the workers to obey the court order or be committed to jail as stipulated by law.

The form 48 is titled “Notice of Consequence of disobedience of order of Court” and would be followed with contempt charges.

It reads, “Take note that unless you obey the directions contained in the order of Honourable Justice E. D Sublimi of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria delivered 27th day of January 2026, you will be guilty of contempt of court and will be liable to be committed to prison “.

The notice of ‘Consequence of Disobedience of Order of Court’ dated January 29 was signed by the Registrar of the Industrial Court, Olajide Balogun.

Justice Emmanuel Sublimi of the National Industrial Court had on January 27 ordered workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to suspend their industrial action pending the hearing and determination of the originating summons issued against them by the FCT Minister.

The order of the Judge followed an application by the FCT Minister through Ogwu James Onoja (SAN) in which he sought an order of court compelling the striking FCTA workers to return to work.

In the suit, the FCT Minister had listed the President and the Secretary of the Joint Union Action Congress (JUAC), Rifkatu Iortyer and Abdullahi Umar Saleh, as respondents.

Justice Subilim had held that industrial action, including strikes, must be suspended once a dispute has been referred to the National Industrial Court.

Heaven Will Not Fall” — Wike Issues Strong Warning to Rivers Govt Over Stadium Ban

by Folarin Kehinde January 30, 2026
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has issued a strong statement to the Rivers State Government over the denial of approval for a political rally at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt.

The minister accused the Rivers State Government of blocking plans for a Renewed Hope Family rally scheduled to hold at the popular stadium. He described the refusal as unfair and unacceptable.

Wike said the organisers had followed due process by applying to use the facility. According to him, the request was turned down by the state authorities without justification.

Speaking during the inauguration of the Renewed Hope Agenda coordinators at the Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic in Port Harcourt, Wike openly challenged the state government to reconsider its decision.

The coordinators were inaugurated for the three senatorial districts and all 23 local government areas of Rivers State.

He warned that another denial would not be tolerated.

He said, “We applied to the state government for the use of the Yakubu Gowon Stadium. They refused us. Let me say this clearly: next time they do this, if you don’t approve it, we will break in by force.

“So, the state coordinator should write again to the state government and choose a day when we will inaugurate the ward-level coordinators. I want everybody to hear this clearly. Enough is enough.

“We are all from Rivers State. Nobody can deny us the use of state facilities. If you refuse to grant approval, we will do the needful, and we will take it by force. Heaven will not fall. Even if heaven falls, everywhere will still be at peace.”

Wike stressed that public facilities belong to the people of the state and should not be used as tools for political exclusion. He insisted that no group should be prevented from holding lawful gatherings in Rivers State.

Supporters at the event cheered loudly as he made the statement, showing clear backing for his position.

However, as of the time of filing this report, the Rivers State Government had not issued an official response to Wike’s warning.
