Aviation unions begin indefinite strike Monday

by Folarin Kehinde August 8, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

A coalition of aviation unions has directed all staff of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency to halt services indefinitely starting Monday, August 11, 2025, over unresolved issues.

The decision was announced in a joint notice issued on August 7 by four major unions representing aviation professionals.

The directive was conveyed in a Thursday statement jointly signed by the National Union of Air Transport Employees, the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals, and the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service, Technical and Recreational Services Employees.

PUNCH Online reported on Saturday that in a joint letter dated July 31, 2025, the unions issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, over the prolonged delay in implementing a new salary structure for workers under the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency.

They threatened to totally withdraw the services of NAMA workers if the issue was not resolved, a development capable of shutting down operations in the country’s aviation sector.

They also expressed frustration that despite concluding negotiations with the management of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency over eight months ago, agreed salary adjustments remain unimplemented.

Reminding the minister that the ultimatum expires on Thursday, August 7, 2025, the unions alerted all stakeholders in the aviation industry to prepare for service disruptions.

They also urged all NAMA employees to strictly comply with the instructions.

“As you are all aware, the notice of withdrawal of services given on 30th July, 2025, expires at the end of today.

“Therefore, all workers of NAMA are hereby directed to stop all services with effect from Monday, 11th August, 2025 at 05hrs indefinitely.

“All airlines and allied companies, as well as the flying public, are hereby informed of the above-stated action and advised to make alternative travel arrangements,” the statement read.

All staff shall comply with this directive, and only joint communication from the national secretariats of the above-named unions shall be heeded with regard to further directives on this matter,” the unions declared.

The statement was signed by AbdulRasaq Saidu (Secretary General, ANAP), Odinakachukwu J. Igbokwe (Deputy General Secretary, NUATE), Frances Akinjole (Principal Deputy General Secretary, ATSSSAN), and Alo Lawrence O. (General Secretary, AUPCTRE).

The unions also copied the notice to top aviation authorities, including Keyamo, the Managing Directors of NAMA and FAAN, the Commissioner of Police (Airport Command), the Directors of State Security (All Airports), and the Airline Operators of Nigeria.

Adeboye Reveals How He Will Die

by Folarin Kehinde August 8, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye last night predicted how he will die.

The cleric, who did not give the date, told millions of congregants that it will be on a Sunday after a Church service.

He was Ministering at the Old Auditorium during evening session on Day 4 of the 73rd Annual Convention of the RCCG.

The week-long Convention tagged: “The Overcomers” opened on Monday the Redemption City of God on Kilometre 46, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

“It’s going to be on a Sunday. I would go to Church for service, dance very well and return home. I will eat pounded yam, then I will go”, he said leading members of the Church on series of prayers on the topic ” Possessing your Possession.”

He said nobody should bother to ask him how he knew the day of his transition.

Adeboye was telling members that noting makes it compulsory for people to die only after illness. He was leading prayers on divine healing.

The other prayer points were on prosperity; fruitfulness; long life and war against forces of darkness.

The cleric, who laced his seromn with relevant scriptures, read from 2 Corinthians 8:9 to justify that prosperity belongs to Chistians.

He urged members of the Church to reject poverty, a weapon the devil relies upon to halt the spread of the gospel.

They have cloned my voice”, SGF cries out

by Folarin Kehinde August 7, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF, Senator George Akume has raised the alarm over the activities of some criminal syndicates who he said have cloned his voice in attempts to swindle high profile individuals with promises of federal government appointments.

“From information available to the office, the fraudsters cloned the voice of the SGF, using it to solicit money in return for federal appointments”, Akume said in a statement by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Yomi Odunuga

The SGF who distanced himself from the scammers, said they have also “cloned the phone numbers of high profile individuals to solicit funds from unsuspecting members of the public”.

While he warned the public to be wary of such schemes, Akume also alerted that the modus operandi of the scammers was to tell victims that they have been pencilled down for Federal Government appointments while demanding payment of money to facilitate such fake appointments.

“The warning becomes necessary as the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation has been inundated with enquiries relating to the activities of these fraudulent individuals and groups”, he said.

Odunuga said the fraudsters also attach bank account details to messages sent to the would -be victims for funds deposit ranging from N5m to N15m in addition to asking them to send their curriculum vitae to cloned emails.

“Senator Akume emphasized that the appointment processes for Nigerians into boards and parastatals are transparent and verifiable, urging individuals not to pay any money in expectation of securing a position.

“Some of the account details of the scammers made available to the office are domiciled in but not limited to both new generation banks and the popular fintech mobile money operating companies in the country.

“While the relevant security agencies have been briefed on the matter, the Office of the SGF strongly advises Nigerians to report the activities of these fraudulent people to the authorities while taking all precautionary steps necessary to avoid being victims of the scammers”, the statement added.

written by Folarin Kehinde

No fewer than 1,000 prayer warriors of the Organisation of African Instituted Churches (OAIC) across the country will on Saturday gather in Ilorin, Kwara, to offer prayers for the success of President Bola Tinubu and Nigerians’ economic survival amidst the ravaging socioeconomic hiccups.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Thursday, the state chairman of the OAIC, Evangelist Thomas Adeboye, lamented the current socio-economic and security situation in the country, urging Nigerians to embark on a prayer sojourn for the president and the nation in general.

According to him, President Tinubu has shown his love to revive the country, adding that “it takes all our efforts and support, especially divine intervention to work for us”.

“Nigeria needs prayer over banditry, the ailing economy, and the threatening political situation. We must feature special prayers for President Tinubu and the governors for God’s wisdom and direction,” he stated.

He also urged President Tinubu to institute policies that have a human face.

“We know that he and the governors are trying. We implore them to always make sure that whatever policies they intend to formulate must be end”.

The cleric also said that delegates expected at the maiden convention, themed, Walking in Dominion, would also enjoy free medical outreach and health advice on eye care, diabetes, among other ailments.

He said the theme would spur the group into reaffirming its authority in Christ as believers; encourage spiritual growth, unity, and bold leadership in the face of contemporary challenges.

According to him, the OAIC would also recognise notable individuals who have distinguished themselves while patronising the group with awards and decorations amid sermons, worship, lectures, and special prayers for the country.

BREAKING: KWAM1 Banned from Airports for Six Months

by Folarin Kehinde August 7, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM1, has been banned from accessing airport facilities across Nigeria for six months, following an incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) imposed the sanction after an altercation involving the artist disrupted normal boarding procedures for a Lagos-bound flight on Monday, August 5, 2025.

According to FAAN, the incident occurred during boarding for ValueJet Flight VK 201, scheduled to depart Abuja for Lagos.

Recall that in a statement on Wednesday signed by the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, the agency said preliminary findings revealed that the musician attempted to carry a flask containing liquid beyond the allowable limit through the boarding gate.

Aviation security officials and the flight captain reportedly advised KWAM1 against carrying the item, in line with international safety regulations prohibiting liquids exceeding 100 millilitres in hand luggage. However, the artist allegedly ignored repeated warnings and declined to submit the item for inspection.

Jonathan joins 2027 Presidential Race

by Folarin Kehinde August 7, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has agreed to contest the 2027 presidential election, a close political associate has confirmed.

The revelation was disclosed by a senior member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) familiar with ongoing consultations involving the former leader, Vanguard reports.

According to the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, Dr. Jonathan has formally accepted calls by influential party stakeholders and national elders urging him to re-enter the race. “The decision has been made. He’s accepted to run. He wants to offer leadership once again to address the poverty, insecurity, and economic hardship currently ravaging the country,” the newspaper quoted the source.

Jonathan, who served as President between 2010 and 2015, is said to have agreed to a single-term presidency if elected. Political observers note that this one-term commitment is being used to persuade northern leaders, many of whom view it as a smooth path for power to rotate back to the North in 2031 without resistance from the South.

“He can only run for one term due to constitutional limits, and that’s why northern politicians are backing the idea. They see it as a transitional move,” the ally explained.

The former president has reportedly commenced consultations both within and outside the PDP. It is understood that last weekend, he met with former military president General Ibrahim Babangida (retd.) in Minna, Niger State, where he reportedly briefed the elder statesman on his decision.

In the South-South, Jonathan is also said to be meeting key political stakeholders, including private engagements in Port Harcourt.

Though details of these meetings remain undisclosed, insiders insist that securing support from the region will not pose a challenge.

The PDP leadership is believed to be fully behind the move. Reports suggest that several party chieftains recently visited Jonathan in The Gambia to further persuade him. Speaking to BBC Hausa, the PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed that the party is in active discussions with Jonathan.

“Many Nigerians have now come to recognise the value of his past leadership. People are asking for his return, and we, as a party, are listening,” Abdullahi said.

He added that Jonathan has remained a loyal PDP member and that the party sees his potential return as a credible strategy to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Jonathan’s anticipated return, however, is reigniting constitutional debates over his eligibility. Following a 2018 constitutional amendment, Section 137(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), a person who has been sworn in twice as president is barred from seeking the office again.

Legal experts remain divided on the matter.

Some argue the amendment disqualifies him, as he completed President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s term in 2010 before winning a full term in 2011. Others maintain that the law, signed in 2018, cannot be applied retroactively to Jonathan.

However, it should be noted that a 2022 ruling by a Federal High Court in Yenagoa favoured the former president, stating that the constitutional amendment could not invalidate his right to contest.

Church of Nigeria cuts ties with Wales for appointing lesbian Archbishop

by Folarin Kehinde August 6, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has officially cut all ties with the Church in Wales following the appointment of Bishop Cherry Vann, an openly lesbian cleric, as the 15th Archbishop of Wales.

The decision was announced by the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, the Most Reverend Henry Ndukuba, who described the development as ‘an abomination’ and a serious departure from biblical truth.

The announcement came during the opening session of the 14th Church of Nigeria Conference of Chancellors, Registrars and Legal Officers, held on Tuesday at the Church’s national secretariat in Abuja.

With the theme ‘Called as a Watchman’, the event brought together legal minds from across the Church to discuss matters of doctrinal integrity, justice, and governance.

Primate Ndukuba delivered the keynote address titled ‘The Decade of the Reign of God: Progress, Challenges, and Prospects.’

Reacting to the Church in Wales’ elevation of a lesbian bishop, the Primate said, “We reject the election of the Right Reverend Cherry Vann as the Archbishop of Wales.”

He compared it to the 2003 consecration of Gene Robinson in the Episcopal Church (USA), which had also led to Nigeria severing ties with that province.

“Just as the Church of Nigeria took steps after the election of Gene Robinson in the United States, we are severing every tie and relationship with the Church of Wales,” he said.

Primate Ndukuba also criticised what he described as the growing influence of revisionist teachings within sections of the Western Church.

“These individuals have not relented from their evil agenda; rather, they have intensified it. What they call their wisdom and culture is an abomination to God,” he declared.

Despite cutting formal ties with the Church in Wales, the Church of Nigeria reaffirmed its support for orthodox Anglicans in the region through platforms such as the Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON).

“We pray that the Church of God in Wales will rise up, and that the faithful among them will stand strong. We, the Church of Nigeria, alongside GAFCON, will stand with them,” Ndukuba assured.

Looking ahead, the Primate said the Church of Nigeria plans to expand its global mission, with new registrations underway in countries like Germany, the Netherlands, and Finland.

“We feel that the Lord is calling us back to Europe for mission,” he said.

The Primate also used the opportunity to highlight the Church’s ongoing contributions to the GAFCON movement.

He revealed that the Church of Nigeria had recently contributed $2.5 million to the GAFCON Endowment Fund and was planning a local Nigerian GAFCON Endowment worth $2.3 million to support orthodox Anglican work and mission.

Everyone digging borehole in lekki is probably drinking ‘shit’ water – Lagos Govt

by Folarin Kehinde August 6, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services and Water Resources in Lagos State, Mahmood Adegbite, has said that people drilling borehole in the Lekki axis of the state is probably drinking ‘’shit water.”

While speaking at a stakeholders meeting in the state recently, Adegbite noted that contaminated boreholes in Lekki pose health risk and added that treatment of waste water would eradicate any form of disease that may arise from it.

He said, “On waste water treatment, I will say that everyone digging borehole within the Lekki axis is probably drinking what I will call ‘shit water.’

“However, if we are able to treat all the waste water within this axis which we have plans for, we should be able to also eradicate any form of disease that might result as result of non-treatment of our waste”

He added that the government still has a lot to do to tackle flooding in the state, saying, “Yesterday, it rained heavily which is unusual because this is supposed to be August break. However, we started having it because of a lot of complex issues.

“Basically, in terms of flooding, despite the fact that we have committed so much, however, we still need a lot to do in that space.”
