‘It’s time to go,’ constituent tells rep who has been in parliament for 27 years

by Folarin Kehinde May 11, 2026
written by Folarin Kehinde

An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta, Dr Eyiseifa Ebiowe, has called on the lawmaker representing Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency, Nicholas Mutu, to leave the National Assembly.

Ebiowe stated this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, on Sunday.

He said the lawmaker, who has been representing the federal constituency since the return to democracy in 1999, should shelve the idea of seeking re-election.

Ebiowe alleged that the lawmaker, in spite of being the oldest member of the National Assembly, had never introduced nor sponsored any bill.

“He hardly ever makes contributions of any kind at plenary or even committee sessions, and generally just occupies space, to the annoyance of his colleagues.

“His official record in the Hansard of the House of Representatives remains at zero for bills and other recorded contributions in 27 years, going to 28.

“How do you have a man in the parliament for a full generation of nearly 30 years without ever introducing a bill, sponsoring a motion or making contributions to national discourse?

“Indolence alone cannot fully explain such catastrophic failure. A near absolute lack of capacity is what we have and witnessing in the poor performance of Nicholas Mutu in the house,” he said.

Ebiowe recalled that Mutu was for 10 years (2009 to 2019), by reasons of ranking or long stay, the House Chairman of the Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

“Those years are still regarded as seasons lost to the locusts, unremarkable and under-achieving and remains 10 years of sloth and upheaval in the commission,” he stated.

The Bomadi APC leader, who described the lawmaker as inactive in the House of Representatives, urged him to leave so as to open space for a “more worthy” representative for the federal constituency.

According to him, Mutu has offered no useful contributions to his people or to the federation.

“His lethargic performance in parliament is so bad that there is no record of even a single bill or motion sponsored by him for seven tenures in the house of representatives.

“He has not contributed anything significant to the realisation of the objectives and development agenda of the Ijaw nation in the parliament and it will be a waste of the people’s time and resources to continue to keep him there.

“Without presenting bills or representing no ideas or goals, he is just sitting idle and being of no use to the house and his constituency.

“He is a perfect example of the old order that must give way for Nigeria to embrace a new order that will be active and productive.

“Indolence cannot be a virtue in these times of urgent crave for development,” he said.

According to him, Mutu is supposed to have come from the same cultural environment that produced the likes of the accomplished John Pepper Clark, Prof. Alfred Opubor, Chief Edwin Clark and many other men and women of letters and fame who had made remarkable contributions to the development of Nigeria.

“Instead, right before our eyes, the job of the house of representatives has left Mutu behind.

“He watched askance while the job grew in scope, power and sophistication without him being able to grow with the job.

Police can search you without warrant if…..— Delta Command PRO

by Folarin Kehinde August 23, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Public Relations Officer (PRO), Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, has said that police officers have the authority to search people’s pockets and bags without a warrant if there is reasonable suspicion.

Edafe disclosed this in a post on X on Saturday while announcing the arrest of a suspected thief found in possession of a firearm.

“Do the police have the right to search you randomly without a search warrant? The answer is yes; search you and not your houses or your phones. But to search you, your bag, pockets, is allowed.

“This chap was standing at a club around 5am looking suspicious, when operatives of RRS intercepted and searched him, and this gun was recovered. Listen to his reason for taking the gun to the club,” he wrote.

In a video that accompanied the post, Edafe explained how operatives of the Rapid Response Squad on visibility patrol around DBS Road, near Don and Master, intercepted a young man who was carrying a bag in a suspicious manner.

He said, “While operatives of the Rapid Response Squad of the Delta State Police Command were on their visibility patrol around DBS road, just by Don and Master, they saw this young man carrying a bag, he was sighted in a suspicious manner, he was intercepted and searched.

“When his bag was searched, this gun was found in his bag, this is the magazine and these are the ammunitions that were recovered from him.”

“Bassey Udoh did not only have this in his possession. In the course of our investigation, we discovered that he usuaully scale through the fence of people’s houses while they’re sleeping and steals their generator.

“At times use the gate to come out and or also take it out through the fence. The time of their operation are usually between the hours of 4am and 5am,” he added.

2027:Tinubu, Delta gov meets behind closed doors in Aso Rock

by Folarin Kehinde May 6, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

President Bola Tinubu is meeting the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

The governor arrived the premises at about 03:45 pm Tuesday, alone, our correspondent observed.

Tuesday’s meeting is the Governor’s first encounter with the President since he defected to the governing party, the All Progressives Congress.

On April 23, 2025, Oborevwori became the first incumbent governor of Delta State to abandon the Peoples Democratic Party since 1999.

His predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, Deputy Governor, Monday Onyeme, commissioners, local government chairmen, and the grassroots machinery moved en bloc to the APC after a closed-door meeting in Asaba.

Okowa was the PDP’s vice presidential candidate in the 2023 election.

Delta’s wave of defection follows similar realignments in Rivers and Cross River, trimming the PDP’s governorship map to ten states and shaking a region once regarded as a fortress for the opposition.

Feelers from the APC identified Governors Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, Peter Mbah of Enugu, Aba Yusuf of Kano and suspended Governor, Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, as four new converts expected to join the party in the coming weeks.

The PDP, Labour Party, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party are currently grappling with internal crises compounded by defections to the APC, which has left their parties in disarray.

by Folarin Kehinde April 23, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

The announcement was made following a closed-door meeting at the Government House in Asaba on Wednesday.

The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, who confirmed the decision said the decision was reached after “wide consultations with political stakeholders and in the interest of Delta’s long-term development.”

Oborevwori, who emerged victorious in the 2023 gubernatorial election under the PDP platform, was received by senior APC officials in what political analysts are already describing as a strategic realignment with significant implications ahead of the 2027 general elections.
