Iluyomade further stated that, till date, the Enoch and Folu Adeboye Dialysis Centre had donated 37 dialysis machines in Nigeria.

He added that the centre had conducted more than 30,000 subsidized and free dialysis sessions and partnered with other agencies to carry out six kidney transplant for free.

“In 2021, the foundation donated a full-fledged dialysis centre to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Shagamu, from which 106 patients had benefitted.”

Meanwhile, minister of state, Federal Capital Territory, Ramatu Tijani on her part noted that the new centre is part of efforts at boosting healthcare delivery in the territory.

In response to the rising incidence of chronic kidney cases, Aliyu advocated for subsidised dialysis sessions for patients, stating that kidney diseases, when detected early could be managed and corrected.

According to NigerianPrice, an online resource for current prices of services in the country, kidney dialysis in Nigeria on an average costs between N20,000-N30,000 per session.

This figure would amount to between N80,000-N120,000 per week and N340,000-N400,000 per month depending on the number of sessions per week.

She however called on Nigerian Association of Nephrology and other health stakeholders to intensify public enlightenment on lifestyle changes as well as control of orthodox and traditional drug abuse to prevent and control kidney and other non-communicable diseases.

“March 2 of every year is World Kidney Day and this allows for awareness creation and free testing for early detection of kidney disease, especially in clients with hypertension and diabetes.

“Weight, urea, electrolytes, creatinine and cholesterol level checks, with evaluation of proteins in urine, among others, are additional tests necessary for early detection of kidney disease,” she said.

Avoid Contents Of Money Rituals, FG Tells Movie Producers

by Folarin Kehinde February 22, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Federal Government on Monday warned filmmakers to avoid money ritual contents.

The directive was given to the National Film and Video Censors Board, the body set up to regulate the film and video industry in Nigeria.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, declared this during a media visit to Daily Trust office in Abuja.

Mohammed stated that such contents had negatively influenced the vulnerable youth, hence the need to mitigate it.

Recently, some of these money ritual suspects have revealed how they learnt the dreadful act on social media.

However, the Federal Government is ready to sanitise social media.

Speaking on the issue, Mohammed said, “Many have also blamed Nollywood for featuring money rituals in some of its movies, saying this has negatively influenced the vulnerable youth.

“To mitigate this, I have directed the National Film and Video Censors Board, the body set up to regulate the film and video industry in Nigeria, to consider this issue while performing its role of censoring and classifying films and videos.

“I have also directed NFVCB to engage with stakeholders in the film industry to express the concerns of the government and Nigerians on the need to eschew money ritual content in their movies.

“For those who may still be in doubt, ritual killings have assumed a worrisome dimension in recent years. Recently, in Ogun State, four young men, one of whom is 18 years old, murdered their 20-year-old female friend for money rituals.

“One of them said they learnt about using human parts for money rituals from social media. Of course, you are also aware of a case involving a female student of the University of Jos who was allegedly killed by her boyfriend for ritual purposes. These killings have been widely reported by the media.

“The fact that some of these ritualists said they learnt the money-making tricks from some social media platforms has given a further fillip to our campaign to rid social media of unwholesome content.”

He also noted that the government won’t allow the social media space to be suffused with dangerous content, adding that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, won’t relent in its efforts to ensure responsible use of social media.

He further urged religious, traditional, and political leaders to be part of the action to reorient youths to realise that success comes through hard work, not money rituals.

Kenyan Teenager Nailed to Tree over Alleged Radio Theft

by Folarin Kehinde February 19, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

Kenyans are pouring outrage on social media following the nailing of a teenager to a tree by unknown persons over alleged radio theft.

Nineteen-year-old Collins Sambaya was found in the morning nailed to a tree in his Izava Village in Vihiga County, on Friday. February 18, 2022.

Sambaya was secured to the tree, arms wide apart, with two roofing nails driven through each palm of his hands.

Shocked villagers reported the incident to the police, who promptly rescued him.

Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed the incident in a statement.

The incident brought Izava Village to a standstill, with shocked and distraught villagers watching in disbelief from a distance as officers rescued Sambaya and rushed him to a hospital.

According to the DCI, a manhunt has been launched for the suspects “with the area security team employing every available resource to apprehend the suspects.”

Vihiga County is an administrative region in the former Western Province of Kenya.
It has a population of 554,622 and an area of 563 km². Vihiga County was split from Kakamega County in 1990.

Shocked Kenyans poured their anger on social media called for the arrest of the perpetrators.

Writing on Facebook, Nicholas Odhiambo Odwar said: “What happened to our humanity? We’ve lost it all. Why, why should people be this cruel?

“A 19-yr old does not have a fully developed mind, he only needs the society to guide him. But what does society do? Turn against each other, we are filled with anger and hatred for one another.

“We are our own enemy. Such a sickening world.”

Eboko Rashid said: “This is too barbaric, diabolical, vexatious, irksome and obnoxious. I mean there is no amount of anger that can warrant such an evil act. The moral fiber of our society has greatly degenerated. This is pathetic, to say the least. The perpetrators MUST face the long arm of the law. What a shame!”

Kipkirui Raymond agreed. He said: “Indeed. So sad. Crucifiers must be brought to book for such inhuman crucifixion act.”

Kyle Knick also condemned the act. He said:”Surely.. How hard was it to take him to a police station and report him… Dear Lord have mercy on our societies.. So sad indeed.. It doesn’t matter what he did wrong, there is a way and a right and humane way of doing things…”

Tension in NASS over Plot to Remove Acting Senate Clerk

by Folarin Kehinde February 18, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

Crisis seems to be brewing in the National Assembly over appointment of substantive clerk of the Senate.

Some staff members of the National Assembly have threatened to embark on another round of protest over what they described as attempt to play politics with appointment of Senate clerk.

Some staff members, it was learnt, have raised alarm over attempt by the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) to deny one of its most experienced and senior legislative staff the position of a substantive clerk of the senate.

They have, however, warned NASC against using the issue of gender to drop the acting Senate clerk, Isabella Ugochi Iloba for a male person despite her experience and competence.

This growing concerns is informed by the commission’s resolve to get a replacement for Iloba, who currently is holding forth in the office of clerk of the Senate.

The group of legislative workers noted that a situation where one of the most senior and experienced legislative staff is about to be denied the position on very irrelevant and parochial excuses is most unfortunate.

Some queried why should her gender be a prerequisite for her qualification as clerk Senate?

“She rose through the ranks to get to her present position, she should be supported and encouraged.

“Similarly, the issue of allowing two people occupying top shot positions from the same zone should be jettison particularly at a time and age like this.” The workers noted.

They posited that that legislative precedence showed that there was nothing wrong in allowing her to be Senate clerk even if she is from the same geo political zone with the clerk of the House of Representatives.

A source said: “What happened when, Ibrahim Salim and Nasir Arab from the same zone, (North West,); Abubakar Salisu Maikasuwa and Sani Omolori, (North Central,) or is it Nelson Ayewoh and Patrick Giwa who were from the same state and zone? Isabella coming from the same zone as Chinedu Akubueze who is clerk House of Representatives, shouldn’t be treated differently from others especially when they both got it based on merit and career progression,.”

They however, called on the National Assembly Service Commission to resist any divisive and retrogressive move and ensure that the right thing is done.

They should be seen to be promoting reward for service and performance rather than petty issues that may hunt them in time to come.,” they said.

Nigerian Navy Dares NIPR, Appoints Non-Professional as Spokesperson

by Folarin Kehinde February 18, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) is set for a showdown with authorities of the Nigerian Navy over its planned appointment of Commodore Ayo Vaughan as the new Naval spokesperson.

PRNigeria gathered that Vaughan, who may soon be officially announced as the Director Naval information lacks training on ‘effectively’ carrying out activities of public relations and strategic communication, something occupants of his new office are expected to have.
Checks further revealed that the new Naval spokesperson is neither a certified PR professional nor had any educational training on public relations.

In a bid to safeguard the sanctity of the PR ‘trade’, NIPR, has severally kicked against the appointment of non-professionals as spokespersons of the various arms, and units of critical institutions including the Nigerian military, at the expense of officers with qualifications and sound backgrounds in communication.

Recently, representatives of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) were conspicuously absent at the inauguration of a new Defence Spokesman in Abuja when the Nigerian Army deployed an Infantry officer as the new Director of Defence Information (DDI).

Speaking to PRNigeria on the latest development, a council member and Fellow of NIPR expressed dismay that the Nigerian military consistently disregarded the statutory provisions on the appointment of spokesperson in critical institutions and other public and private organisations.

The senior PR practitioner said: “They are aware of the legal implications of such appointments which is against the Nigerian laws, especially after our various correspondences and engagements with them.

“Whenever they appoint Heads of their Account, Legal, Engineering and Medical Departments, for instance, they ensure they are qualified and certified accountants, lawyers, engineers and Doctors for the top offices… Why should they treat Information and Public Relations departments differently? This deliberate policy of embarrassing a professional body for image-maker and crisis communicators is very unfair and unfortunate.

“There are set parameters of knowledge you need to acquire before you can practice public relations. There is also laid down rules about appointing spokespersons. The law establishing NIPR makes it a criminal offence for anybody to practice public relations by whatever name without certification or license by NIPR. The law provides for imprisonment, fine, or both for offenders.

“I think this time around we may go to court over the illegal and unconstitutional attitudes of flouting basic requirements in appointing professional and certified personnel for the job of spokespersons,” he concluded
