Ignore Report that Osinbajo Campaign will Provide Hotel Accommodation for over 7,000 APC Delegates – Babafemi Ojudu

by Folarin Kehinde May 20, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Osinbajo Campaign Organization has debunk a false report attributed to the VP,s s Special Adviser, Babafemi Ojudu, that it would provide hotel accomodations for 7,000 APC Delegates as the party’s primary elections draws nearer.

Attributing such a claim to Senator Babafemi Ojudu, Special Adviser to the President, in the Office of the Vice-President, the report falsely claimed that “Ojudu announced this to delegates in Minna, while wooing them to vote for Osinbajo during the party’s primaries.”

For the records, Senator Ojudu at no time made such a claim and the Osinbajo Campaign team has no such plans. Such reported offers of free accommodation and free food should be ignored.

The Vice President continues to spend time interacting directly with the APC delegates and stakeholders across the States, while answering their questions on issues of politics and governance.

It is the plan and intention of the Osinbajo Campaign Team to keep engaging the APC delegates on the major issues of the day, exchanging ideas on how to move the country forward and forging a partnership of stakeholders whose collaboration would go beyond the 2023 elections.

Nigeria, others witness lunar eclipse today

by Folarin Kehinde May 16, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

Centre Director, Dr. Bonaventure Okere, stated that the lunar eclipse would be visible from across the nooks and crannies of Nigeria, as well as in several other countries of Africa, North and South America, Europe and parts of Asia.

He added that the lunar eclipse has remained one of the most interesting astronomical events/phenomena for sky-watchers globally over the years.

The natural phenomenon, according to him, occurs “when the Earth blocks the Sun’s light, which otherwise would have struck and reflect off the moon’s surface. In other words, the moon passes into the umbra/deep shadow of the Earth.

“When this happens, the short-wavelength light from our planet is scattered/absorbed while the light of longer wavelength (red colour) is refracted around the edges of the atmosphere while falling upon the moon’s surface, thereby turning the moon reddish in colour (the Blood Moon).”

National Hospital Dismissed Report of Late Osinachi’s Corps Singing ‘Ekwueme’ in Mortuary

by Folarin Kehinde May 16, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

The National Hospital in Abuja on Monday dismissed claims that the corpse of popular gospel singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu was singing ‘Ekwueme’ while in the mortuary.

Dr Tayo Haastrup, the spokesman of National Hospital, said there was no proof that Osinachi’s body was singing in the morgue.

According to Haastrup a dead person couldn’t be singing while in the morgue.

Osinachi, a chorister in Dunamis International Gospel Center, died a few months ago allegedly due to domestic violence she suffered from her husband, Peter Nwachukwu.

Following her death, her corpse was deposited in the National Hospital mortuary.

Reports had it that mortuary attendants alleged that Osinachi’s corpse was singing her hit track, Ekwueme, in the middle of the night.

Reacting to the report, Haastrup said: “Medically, there is nothing like that; it’s just an imagination of people. Somebody that is dead and is a corpse, how would such a person be singing in the night?

“There is no medical backup to that; it’s an imagination that may be due to the church she attended while alive, and the songs may just be giving people ideas, but there is no proof in any way. It just can’t be proven in any way.

“Somebody that is dead is dead and has become a corpse; it’s inside a morgue, it can’t sing and can’t move so it’s an imagination of people.”

On the autopsy report, he said: “It’s a corona case, and it’s confidential; we can’t reveal anything there. The IPO in charge will give it to the IGP, who will turn it to the court.

“The result has been submitted all the same, and our people did it confidentially.”

Hackers can now unlock, steal your vehicles, NCC warns

by Folarin Kehinde May 16, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is alerting telecom consumers and members of the public on an ongoing cyber-vulnerability that allows a nearby hacker to unlock vehicles, start their engines wirelessly and make away with the cars.

According to the Commission, the fact that car remotes are categorized as short-range devices that make use of radio frequency (RF) to lock and unlock cars informed the need to alert the general public of this emergent danger, where hackers take advantage to unlock and start a compromised car.

The Commission in the latest advisory released its Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT), said: “The vulnerability is a Man-in-the-Middle (MitM) attack or, more specifically, a replay attack in which an attacker intercepts the RF signals normally sent from a remote key to the car, manipulates these signals, and re-sends them later to unlock the car at will.”

“With this latest type of cyber-attack, it is also possible to manipulate the captured commands and re-transmit them to achieve a different outcome altogether.

“Multiple researchers disclosed a vulnerability, which is said to be used by a nearby attacker to unlock some Honda and Acura car models and start their engines wirelessly. The attack consists of a threat actor capturing the radio frequency (RF) signals sent from your key fob to the car and resending these signals to take control of your car’s remote keyless entry system,” the Commission added.

2023: Education Minister, Nwajiuba Bows to Pressure, Resigns

by Folarin Kehinde May 11, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajuiba has resigned

This was confirmed as President Muhammadu Buhari ordered all cabinet members interested in contesting the 2023 general elections quit his government.

The development made Buhari excited, as he also singled the minister out for braving the odds to quit.

According to report, the Minister of State for Education, Nwajiuba had picked the expression of interest and nomination forms from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to contest for the presidency at the cost of N100million.

In an apparent move to avoid litigations that might joepardize the chances of APC candidates in the forth coming elections, Buhari had directed that all members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) running for elective offices should submit their letters of resignation on or before Monday the 16th of May, 2022.

While the FEC meeting lasted, Buhari had singled out Nwajiuba for braving the odds to quit to avoid conflict of interest, and said: “I expect other members of this council seeking to be President to resign with immediate effect”

Other ministers expected to follow suit include: Ministers of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio; Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige; Science, Technology and Innovation, Ogbonnaya, who have all joined the presidential race on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Others are Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, who is seeking to contest governorship position in Kebbi State, Minister of State, Mines and Steel, Uche Ogar, who is running for governorship position in Abia State, and the Minister of Women Affairs, Paulline Tallen, who declared her ambition to contest for Senatorial seat in Plateau State.

The directive may not be unconnected with the Appeal Court ruling which set aside an earlier judgement against Section 84(12) of the Electoral Act 2022.

ASUP Joins ASUU, Begins 2-week Warning Strike May 16

by Folarin Kehinde May 11, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Academic Staff Union of the Polytechnics, ASUP, on Wednesday, declared a two-week warning strike starting from Monday, May 16.

The declaration of strike came after the expiration of the one month ultimatum by ASUP to the Federal Government on April 4, which expired on May 4.

Addressing journalists on the status of its engagement with the government, after its emergency National Executive Council, NEC, meeting in Abuja, the President of ASUP, Anderson Ezeibe, said the that the decision to proceed on strike was as a result of the government inability to address their nine points demands.

Ezeibe called on the public to prevail on the government to do the needful within the two weeks period so as to avoid an indefinite shut down of the sector.

Among the contentious issues are the non-release of the approved revitalisation fund for the sector, non-release of arrears of the new minimum wage, non-release of the reviewed normative instruments for the institution/management and programmes accreditation.

The alleged sustained infractions in implementation of the provisions of the Federal Polytechnics Act as amended, is also an issue.

Other demands include the delay in the appointment of reactors, non-release of the scheme of service for polytechnics, continued victimisation of union officers, among others.

Eid-el-Fitri Special Patrol: FRSC Records 35.3% Rescue Increase from 119 Road Crashes

by Folarin Kehinde May 9, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

Following high mobilisation and deployment of personnel and logistics for enhanced visibility of operatives on the highways during the just concluded 2022 EID-EL FITR , the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has stated that it rescued 360 people without injuries from a total of 119 crashes involving 701 people.

This figure according to the data released by the Corps, represents 35.3% increase in total number of people rescued without injuries.

The Corps Public Education Officer of FRSC, Bisi Kazeem who made this public stated that 266 people were rescued without injuries in the same period in 2021, while 360 were rescued during the 2022 Eid-EL Fitr special patrol without injuries, which marks 35.3% improvement on 2021 record.

However, he noted that the number of persons rescued with injuries from road traffic crashes during the celebration period is 292.

He added that of the 701 persons involved in road traffic crashes during the 2022 Eid-el Fitr celebration period, a total of 49 people were killed.

Quoting the Corps Marshal, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, Kazeem stated that the Corps now has a wider coverage due to the establishment of more FRSC Commands, Outposts, road side clinics and Zebra points who now feed in reports from different routes that were hitherto not thoroughly covered.

Read Also: Oyeyemi Orders Officers to Beef Up Operations on Critical Routes

He stressed that the increase in number of road crashes, increase in the number of persons involved, and increase in the number of persons killed is due to the reports that emanated from the new FRSC formations.

It will be recalled that Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi had earlier directed that the 2022 Sallah special patrol to cover several corridors which include but not limited to Sokoto-Tambuwal-Jega-Birnin Kebbi; Mokwa-Birnin Yero-Zaria; Maiduguri-Biu-Numan-Jalingo-Wukari; Lafia-Langtang-Pankshin-Jos; Abuja-Lokoja-Okene; Lokoja-Auchi-Benin; Onitsha-Njaba-Owerri-Umuahia, Ibadan-Oyo-Ogbomosho; and Ibadan-Ogere-Shagamu.

In view of the directive of the Corps Marshal which is a move away from other years where the focus was on critical corridors, Kazeem noted that the Corps intensified its Patrol operations and Enlightenment campaigns by giving adequate coverage to all identified routes across the country.

Analysing the records for the 2022 special patrol, the spokesperson said that a total of 4701 offenders were apprehended; while a total of 5877 offences were recorded; and a total of 2259 impoundments were made.

Further to this, Kazeem disclosed that in 2022, enlightenment through Motor park rallies and Radio Programmes increased tremendously.

Kazeem noted that just like the Easter special operations, the Corps did not record any assault on its operatives and this could be attributed to enhanced stakeholders collaboration and engagement, increase in Public Enlightenment, and the introduction of the body and vehicle camera for operatives.

The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has suspended its decision to withdraw its services across all airports in the country.

Barely a day before the association planned to effect the withdrawal, it explained that it was suspending the decision in the interest of the national economy and security considerations.

AON President, Abdulmunaf Sarina, announced the suspension on Sunday in a statement jointly signed by six members of the association.

They include Abdulmunaf – Managing Director of Azman Air; Shehu Wada – Executive Director of Max Air; and Obiora Okonkwo – Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines.

Others are Roy Ilegbodu – Chief Executive Officer of Arik Air; Abdullahi Mahmood – Chief Executive Officer of Aero Contractors; and Allen Onyema – Chairman of Air Peace.

Earlier, the Ministry of Aviation had assured Nigerians that members of AON were reviewing their decision to withdraw services on Monday, May 9.

It confirmed that Ibom Air, Green Africa Airlines, Arik Air, Dana Air, and others said they would carry on with their normal flight schedules.

Read the statement from the association below:

AON ACCEDES TO CALLS FROM GOVERNMENT, SUSPENDS ACTION IN GOOD FATE

The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) wishes to inform the general public that further to numerous calls from the highest echelons in government with promises to urgently intervene in the crises being faced by airlines due to the astronomic and continuously rising cost of JetA1, that the AON has acceded to requests to withdraw the action for the time being while we allow for a fresh round of dialogue with government in the hope of reaching an amicable solution.

We have also reached this decision with the highest consideration for our esteemed customers who have been faced with uncertainty over the last few days and to enable them to have access to travel to their various destinations for the time being during the period of discussions with relevant authorities.

In view of the above and in the interest of national economy and security considerations, AON hereby wishes to notify the general public that the earlier announced shutdown of operations on May 9, 2022, is hereby suspended in good fate pending the outcome of hopefully fruitful engagement with government.
