written by Folarin Kehinde

Thousands of Muslim faithful converged on an open space in Hong, administrative headquarters of Hong local government area of Adamawa state on Tuesday, to offer special prayers for rain.

This marked the third time this year that such a gathering would take place.

The special prayer, known as “Salatul Istisqa’a”, was held to seek divine intervention for rainfall so as not to affect bumper harvest.

The prayer session was led by the esteemed Imam Zubairu Mahmud Fari, with the District Head of Hong, Dan-Maliki Adamawa, Alhaji Umar Babangida Mahmoud (Khadimul-Qur’an) in attendance.

The Imam led the congregation in offering the prayers, calling on Allah SWT to accept their petition for rainfall and bring an end to the hardship being faced by people in the country.

In his supplication, Imam Fari also fervently prayed for bumper harvest and for Allah to forgive the people of their sins.

His words were met with a resounding “Amen” from the gathering, who shared his sentiments and hopes for a bountiful harvest and divine mercy.

Reports indicate that Christians in the area also held special prayers for rainfall and bumper harvest in their various churches, a testament to the spirit of unity and cooperation that exists between people of different faiths in the area.

The event was organized at the behest of Dan Malikin Adamawa and the District Head of Hong, Alhaji Umar Babangida Mahmoud, who had issued a directive calling on all Muslims and Christians in his domain to participate in the prayer session.

The response was overwhelming, with thousands of worshippers heeding the call to come together in a powerful display of unity and faith.

Immigration Clears 60,000 Passport Backlogs In Four Days – FG

by Folarin Kehinde September 13, 2023
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, says the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has cleared a passport backlog of almost 60,000 within four working days.

He said this on Tuesday in Abuja when he received the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Betta Edu on a courtesy call.

“When we came on board, the passport crisis was an embarrassment. And, we said: it cannot continue!” a statement from the minister’s spokesman Alao Babatunde quoted his principal as saying.

“As of this morning, I can tell you that about 60,000 passport backlogs have been cleared, especially 59,906. On Wednesday, September 6, 2023, when I gave the 2-week ultimatum, we had over 200,000 backlogs. We have recorded progress, and I maintain my word that those backlogs must be cleared.”

On her part, Edu said the visit was due to the need to extend its hand of partnership with the ministry as it seeks to tackle human trafficking and other related challenges including poor veterans’ welfare, underemployment, and poverty among citizens.

According to her, the ministry was in the best position to solve issues of human trafficking as it plays a supervisory role in the NIS.

The interior minister is therefore assuring her of his cooperation.

“His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed us to see the place of partnership as agents of his #RenewedHope Agenda, and we are here to deliver on this mandate,” he added.

“We assure you of our support. Your initiative is progressive and commendable, especially at this crucial time in the history of our country. There is a lot of work to be done, and we cannot work in silos as the President has directed.”

Gov Uzodinma’s ‘Operation No PVC, No Palliatives worries Imo PDP

by Folarin Kehinde September 13, 2023
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Peoples Democratic Party Governorship Campaign Council in Imo State has admonished the people of the state to reject the alleged Operation Show Your PVC for Palliative, noting it is a plot by Imo Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodinma, and leaders of APC to hijack their Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) forcefully.

The opposition party gave this admonition on Wednesday in a statement by Ikenna Onuoha, the Director, Media and Publicity Imo PDP (Sam-Jones) Governorship Campaign Council in Owerri, Imo State.

PDP, while urging Imo residents to remain alert, alleged that Uzodinma is struggling to have access to their PVCs to enable his government to rig the November 11 governorship election after it appears to him that the people have abandoned him.

The party described the exercise as a Greek gift to expose their private identification Numbers to scavengers.

PDP statement reads, “So far, Uzodinma is said to have released the remaining palliatives to Sole Administrators, Commissioners, Special Advisers, and other appointees of his government with stern directive to distribute same to only those with Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) who should be APC members.

“What this means is that Imo citizens who are members of other political parties like Labour Party, APGA, SDP, NNPP, PDP and others cannot partake.

“This development is not only worrisome, criminal, and wicked, which is at variance with the Federal Government’s sharing template, but an indication that Uzodinma’s administration is too petty and vindictive to have leveraged on the free-will gift to frustrate Imo people.

“It is no longer in doubt that the actions of Uzodinma and his party leaders justify previous reports on the media that the APC government in the state diverted over N2 billion from the intervention funds and allocated over 50 thousand bags of the contingent to relatives, friends and well-wishers at the detriment of Imo citizens.

“Currently, the image of Imo state government is at stake and badly mutilated in the eyes of the world that while other states in the country are freely and genuinely distributing the palliatives to indigenes of their states irrespective of party affiliations or PVCs, Uzodinma and his directionless administration are using the gift as a weapon to continue to impoverish Imo people.

“As an entity that believes in the rule of law, what Uzodinma and APC are presently doing in the state has confirmed the insinuation that the prevalent hunger, starvation, and anguish experienced by Imo people now and in the past are deliberately orchestrated by APC government in the state.

“While we advise Imo people to reject this Greek gift aimed at exposing their private identification Numbers to scavengers or to exchange their Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) with two and half cups of rice from Uzodinma, Imo people are to remain alert that why Uzodinma is struggling to have access to their PVCs is to enable his government rig the November 11 Governorship election, after it appears to him that the people have abandoned him.”

Bribery-for-position rocks MINT leadership: Tunji Hakeem allegedly dishes N100million to seize MD’s position

by Folarin Kehinde September 13, 2023
written by Folarin Kehinde

There is a new twist to the ordeals of Ahmed Haliru, the current Managing Director of the Central Bank of Nigeria-owned Nigeria Security, Printing and Minting (MINT). Information has emerged that the Executive Director of the Security Document Department of MINT, Mr Tunji Kazeem is not leaving any stone unturned to unseat Ahmed Haliru.

Mr. Kazeem, who joined MINT from the Nigeria Stock Exchange through the help of the former domestic aide to President Muhamadu Buhari, Yusuf “Tunde” Sabiu is said to have so far parted with over N100million to lobbying for the position of the MD of MINT through the office of the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Insider information revealed that Kazeem is currently dishing out information that may help to nail Ahmed Haliru to the anti-corruption agencies and the Department of the State Security Services.

Hakeem is believed to be cashing in on the current predicaments of the current Managing Director, Ahmed Haliru who was brought to MINT by Godwin Emiefele and who was at the fore of the currency redesign policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria, under Godwin Emiefele. Information unveiled by this platform revealed that Ahmed Haliru is among Godwin Emiefele associates who have been invited by the DSS to say all they know about the Naira redesign policy, as well as the alleged missing N25billion.

Haliru worked with Godwin Emiefele in Zenith Bank Plc and is the elder brother to the immediate past First Lady, Aisha Buhari. The fortune of MINT went down the drain due to the ineptitude and corruption that characterized MINT under Haliru.
