Terrorists have demanded an additional N300 million ransom from family of Ahmed Mohammed, the abducted commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The latest demand comes despite the family reportedly paying N40 million to the kidnappers in an effort to secure his release.

Ahmed was abducted on September 29, 2025, along the Mokwa–Ibbi Road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State while travelling to Minna for an official assignment.

The incident occurred just weeks before the November 1, 2025, local government elections in the state, where he was expected to play a key role in the electoral process.

A Family member, who requested anonymity, disclosed that the abductors re-established contact with the family on Monday to inquire whether they were prepared to meet the new ransom demand.

The source said the terrorists insisted that an additional N300 million must be paid before the NSIEC commissioner would be released. However, the family said it was unable to raise such a huge amount.

“They call almost every day. It was only yesterday (Tuesday) that they did not call. They requested an additional N300 million. We are appealing to the Niger State Government to come to our aid and secure his release,” the family member said.

As of the time of filing this report, the Niger State Government had not publicly responded to the family’s appeal.
