Bandits Abduct 16-year-old boy, six girls in FCT Community

by Nelson Ugwuagbo November 27, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

Armed bandits have abducted a 16-year-old boy and six young girls from Gidan-Bijimi in Kawu ward, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.

Gidan-Bijimi is a border community sharing a boundary with Marke village near the Kaduna State border.

A resident of Kawu, Suleiman Shuaibu, confirmed the incident to reporters via telephone on Thursday morning.

He said the bandits, armed with AK-47 rifles, stormed two houses in the community at about 9:47 p.m., shooting sporadically before whisking away the victims.

According to him, the attack threw the community into panic as residents scampered for safety.

Shuaibu disclosed that local vigilantes tried to repel the attack but were overpowered by the bandits’ superior firepower.

He added that the abducted girls are aged between 17 and 23.

“It was around 9:53 p.m. when a call came from Gidan-Bijimi community that some bandits invaded the village and abducted six young girls; unfortunately, my cousin happened to be among the victims,” he said.

He further stated that some residents fled their homes after the incident, adding that contact had yet to be established with the abductors as of the time of filing this report.

Again, terrorists invade Catholic School in Niger, kidnap students, staff

by Folarin Kehinde November 21, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

An unconfirmed number of students and staff have been abducted at St. Mary’s School, a Catholic institution in Papiri community, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State.

Details of the abduction remain sketchy, but sources told Daily Trust that many students were taken during a raid on the school.

A source from one of the Catholic churches in Niger State confirmed the incident to Daily Trust, noting that the school was still compiling its records.

“Yes, it is true, but I am not in a position to give details. The church will issue an official statement later in the day,” he said.

When contacted, the Spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said he would provide details later.

However, the Head of Department, Disaster and Relief, Agwara Local Government, Ahmed Abdullahi Rofia, confirmed the attack via telephone.

He said the terrorists stormed the school between 2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m., adding that the actual number of abducted students and staff had yet to be determined as authorities continue their assessments.

The incident comes just days after a similar attack in Maga, Kebbi State, where 25 students were kidnapped, heightening concerns over the deteriorating security situation in educational institutions across the region.

Influencer DonAza Replies Festus Keyamo, Says Islamist Don’t Care About His Religion When Slaughtering Christians

by Nelson Ugwuagbo November 8, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

Dear Festus Keyamo

I read through your to @realDonaldTrump . You said your appointment as a Christian minister proves there is no persecution. But when bandits and Fulani militias attack villages in Benue, Plateau, Nasarawa, or Southern Kaduna, do they stop to ask if the Minister of Aviation is a Christian? Do they check the president’s cabinet list before burning homes and killing farmers? The dead do not care who was appointed. Political appointments cannot replace justice for those who have been slaughtered.

Donald Trump did not accuse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of killing Christians. There is nowhere in Trump’s statement where he made such a claim. He only said that Christians are being killed in Nigeria and called on the government to go after the killers. That is the same thing Nigerians have been crying about for years.

If Trump is saying the same thing that citizens, pastors, and victims have been shouting for years, why respond with a long political essay instead of a plan of action? Why not tell the world plainly that Nigeria has a problem and needs help to go after the killers (both Fulani militias and terrorist groups) killing people of all faiths? Why pretend that because the president’s wife is a pastor and his children are Christians, the country has no crisis? This is not a family issue. This is a national tragedy.

You wrote that President Tinubu is a moderate Muslim who prays with pastors. That is fine, but being a moderate does not make the killings disappear. Quoting the president’s family’s faith to defend state inaction is meaningless. Nigeria needs leadership, not family testimony.

This is not PDP versus APC. This is not about who supports or opposes the president. This is about human lives. It is about farmers murdered on their land, children burned in their homes, and families forced to flee to IDP camps.

Look at Benue, Plateau, Nasarawa, and Southern Kaduna. Every week brings a new attack. In Yelwata, Benue, over two hundred Christians were killed. Bokkos and Barkin Ladi have become mass graveyards. If there is no Christian genocide, what was Governor Ortom crying about in Benue? What did President Tinubu go to Benue for after the Yelwata massacre? If there are no killings, why are Christian communities living like refugees in their own country?

You completely denied the massacre of Christians. WOW! The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom and Amnesty International both report that Christian farming communities in the Middle Belt face repeated and organized attacks. These are not random crimes but a clear pattern of targeted violence. A UK Parliament report recorded over 12,700 Christians killed and 7,900 abducted between 2019 and 2022. Recent reports by Reuters and The Guardian show that in 2025 alone, more than tens of Christians were massacred in Yelwata, Benue, while dozens were killed in Bokkos and Barkin Ladi. Human Rights Watch confirms that such killings are coordinated and often ignored. The evidence is overwhelming: Christians in Nigeria’s Middle Belt are being disproportionately targeted, and the violence is systematic, not equal.

The truth is that there has been no political will to stop them. Each time Nigerians cry out, government officials treat it as an attack on the government rather than a cry for help. Every report, every video, every outcry is dismissed as propaganda. That is why nothing changes. The killers move freely because those in power prefer silence to truth. When the world begins to notice, the government rushes to deny instead of act.

You, of all people, should remember that when the APC was in opposition, it ran to Washington to tell the Obama administration the same genocide in the North under Goodluck Jonathan. Even Bola Tinubu once tweeted about it. Back then, you called it genocide. So what changed? Did the killings stop because you came to power? Or is it only called genocide when another party is in charge?

If your goal was honesty, your letter to Trump would have been short and sincere. You could have simply said that there are terrorist attacks affecting both Christians and Muslims and that Nigeria needs help, intelligence, and technology to go after the killers. That would have shown leadership, not weakness. That would have shown truth, not propaganda.

Nobody said Tinubu is killing Christians. The point is that he must do more to stop those who are. Because if the killings continue and the government keeps denying them, history will not remember who was president. It will remember who stayed silent.

Nigeria does not need denial. Nigeria needs truth, accountability, and courage. Every time you deny the pain of your people, you give strength to those who kill them. And when that happens, the blood no longer cries only from the ground. It cries against those who refused to act.

This is not about politics, Mr. Keyamo. This is about truth. And no government can win peace by denying pain.

Federal Lawmaker Escapes Assassination Attempt as Terrorists Ambush Convoy

by Folarin Kehinde November 5, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

A federal lawmaker, Jafaru Mohammad Ali Damisa, narrowly survived an attack on Tuesday after suspected terrorists ambushed his convoy.

The incident happened along the Lumma–Babanna road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

The attackers, described as “Lakurawa terrorists, locally referred to as bandits,” struck in the afternoon and caught the security team unprepared.

Security escorts immediately engaged the gunmen, but one soldier lost his life in the shoot-out.

Several others were severely injured and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Some political supporters also suffered injuries during the chaos.

Witnesses said the attackers fired continuously, damaging several vehicles in the convoy. At least “vandalised about 11 vehicles,” were left riddled with bullets before they were later removed from the scene.

Despite the heavy gunfire, Damisa managed to escape.

Reinforcement from troops at the Forward Operating Base in Babanna arrived shortly after receiving a distress call. Their presence forced the gunmen to retreat into the bush after a fierce gunfight.

However, at the time of this report, military personnel have increased patrols in the area as tension remains high among residents.

This attack has further raised concerns over insecurity in Niger State, especially around border communities frequently targeted by armed groups.

New Terrorist Group ‘Mahmuda’ Occupies Parts of Kwara and Niger States, Emir Raises Alarm

by Folarin Kehinde April 21, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Emir of Yashikira, Umoru Seriki, Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, is distressed that concerned authorities have abandoned communities under attacks by a terror group named ‘Mahmuda’ allegedly occupying some parts of the Kwara North Senatorial District and Niger State.

Reacting to the development in an exclusive interview with DAILY POST on Sunday, Seriki lamented that “the situation is that we are totally demoralized, we are not happy with what the authorities are saying that there is no presence of terrorists in our domains.

“We are not happy and we feel abandoned by the government and left on our own, but as the situation is, we have no choice than to continue to defend ourselves.

“It is very unfortunate that we have complained about this thing earlier and nobody seems to pay attention to our plight.”

The attacks, according to the traditional ruler, are not only in Baruten and Kaiama local governments of Kwara state, but also Borgu Kingdom in Niger State.

Seriki, while confirming last week’s attacks by the terrorists, disclosed that the security vehicle bought by the people for operations by the vigilantes was bombed by the terrorists.

“We are just lucky that our vigilantes survived the attacks though some suffered some bruises.

“The casualties we suffered were not actually 15, but we suffered some casualties and the terrorists also suffered some casualties.

“So that is the situation, what the social media is actually reporting is the truth, we are just praying to God to help and protect us in the current situation we are facing,” he added.

DAILY POST recalls that the Kwara State Police Command last week refuted alleged emergence of a terror group named ‘Mahmuda’ within Kaiama and Baruten Local Government Areas of the state.

The command also categorically dismissed the claim that 15 vigilantes have been killed by the terror group, describing it as false and devoid of any factual basis.

A statement by the spokesperson of the command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, in Ilorin on Saturday, said comprehensive and continuous threat assessments, intelligence surveillance, and tactical reconnaissance operations in the said areas have yielded no evidence of insurgent activity, coordinated terrorist formations, or mass casualty incidents as described.

Represented by the Chief of Defence Policy and Plans, Air Vice Marshal Shayi Olatunde, Musa stressed the need for proper reintegration of the repentant terrorists to sustain the gains made by Operation Safe Corridor.

He urged the state governments to play an active role in the transition process by deploying security measures to track and monitor reintegrated individuals.

Musa said, “I, therefore, say that conforming law with localities ensures the proper integration of the first of two parties, consisting of 381 clients.

“It is also important to mention that upon graduation from this scheme, each client will be provided with some personal items as well as start-up pacts based on the three acquired, including their families

“ This is to enable them to set up small businesses and start a new life. Accordingly, I urge benefiting state governments to facilitate the seamless re-integration of the ex-combatants by providing additional support to ease the transitional process. We are very optimistic that working closely with local and traditional authorities, the state can deploy security apparatus at their disposal to effectively track and monitor the progress of the re-integrated ex-combatants.”

The Coordinator of Operation Safe Corridor, Brig. Gen. Y. Ali, said the programme has reintegrated no fewer than 2,190 repentant terrorists since its inception in 2016.

He added that the number included 27 foreign nationals who have been repatriated to their respective countries.

Ali disclosed that between July and November 2024, 825 new clients—including 14 foreigners from Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, and Niger—were transferred to the De-radicalisation, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration camp for training.

Ali added that 22 clients requiring further psychological evaluation were transferred to the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Maiduguri.

He said, “Since the commencement of the programme in 2016, OPSC has successfully processed 2,190 clients comprising 2,163 Nigerians and 27 foreign nationals from Cameroon, Chad and Niger. All the foreign clients were transferred to their respective national authorities for reintegration.

“Between July and November 2024, a total of 825 clients were transferred to the DRR Camp to commence training. Amongst them are 14 foreigners from Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad and Niger. It is also important to mention that 22 clients were subsequently transferred to the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Maiduguri for further evaluation and management.

Federal Government spends N1.4 billion on rehabilitation of terrorists

by Folarin Kehinde December 29, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Federal Government has allocated approximately N1.4 billion for the rehabilitation of repentant terrorists and the establishment of terrorism trial centres over the past year and a half.

Following former President Muhammadu Buhari’s assent to the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Bill on May 12, 2022, the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC) was established.

In December 2022, the government announced plans to build two disarmament, deradicalisation, rehabilitation, and reintegration centres for former Boko Haram members and other terrorist factions.

Punch reports that Rear Admiral Yem Musa (retd.), the coordinator of the NCTC, confirmed to the House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence that N2.4bn would be allocated to these centres as part of the NCTC’s N3.8bn capital projects for 2023.

According to data from the GovSpend platform, between December 2022 and May 2024, the Ministry of Justice expended a total of N1.4bn on these rehabilitation centres and the renovation of facilities for terrorism trials.

This included N612m spent in March 2023 to renovate abandoned structures for terrorism trials and build dormitories for the rehabilitation of repentant terrorists under Operation Safe Corridor.

In 2024, an additional N179m was spent on similar projects, including the procurement of equipment to aid terrorism case prosecutions.

Meanwhile, the NCTC recently announced that it had secured 325 convictions during the Phase 5 and Phase 6 trials at the Kainji Detention Facility. Convictions ranged from the death penalty to life imprisonment, with sentences depending on the severity of the crimes committed.

Despite this, concerns have arisen over the secretive nature of these trials. Security experts and civil society organizations have raised questions about why such trials are conducted behind closed doors, given the gravity of the crimes involved.

Some argue that transparency is critical for public trust, while others believe that secrecy is necessary for security reasons. The government has yet to provide a clear explanation for this approach.

Security operatives on high alert as terrorists now use wall clocks for bombings in Nigeria

by Folarin Kehinde December 16, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

Investigations reveal that terrorists in Nigeria have begun using wall clocks as timers to detonate Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) at critical government infrastructure.

This method, aimed at causing maximum destruction, was notably used in a recent attack on the Shiroro/Kaduna transmission power network, which plunged much of Northern Nigeria into darkness.

Sources, speaking on the condition of anonymity to New Telegraph, confirmed that the tactic is now being employed by terrorists to target key assets, causing widespread damage.

The aim appears to be not only to destroy but to disrupt essential services, with the potential for significant socio-economic impact.

In response to the emerging threat, Nigeria’s military and security agencies have ramped up their efforts to combat IEDs.

Special training programs are being organized for personnel across military, security, intelligence, and law enforcement agencies to improve their ability to detect and neutralize explosives before they can cause harm.

The counter-IED courses focus on equipping operatives with advanced skills to combat the evolving tactics of terrorism.

A senior official stated, “Terrorists have resorted to using wall clocks to detonate IEDs because of the method’s ability to evade detection. They are specifically targeting critical infrastructure with the aim of inflicting severe damage.”

To counter this growing threat, there is a heightened focus on preparing first responders and bomb technicians through regular assessments and counter-IED drills.

Additionally, the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) is working closely with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) to curb the growing terrorism threat.

Despite the challenges, sources have assured the public that security forces are making significant progress in containing the insurgency.

“Efforts are ongoing, and terrorists are being systematically neutralized. The resolve of the state remains strong, and the days of these criminals testing our strength are numbered,” said one source.

Already, the intensified security operations have led to the elimination of many terrorist commanders and fighters.

Troops Eliminate 96 Terrorists, Capture Kingpin Maisaje and 226 Suspects

by Folarin Kehinde October 18, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) announced significant gains in the fight against terrorism and oil theft in Nigeria, with the capture of notorious terrorist leader Usman Maisaje and 226 suspected terrorists over the past week.

Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed the operations in a statement on Friday.

“Maisaje, a close associate of high-profile terrorist Kachalla Boka, is providing invaluable intelligence, aiding troops in further operations,” Buba stated. In total, the Nigerian troops eliminated 96 terrorists during the operations.

The DHQ also reported substantial progress in the battle against oil theft, revealing the arrest of 45 suspected oil thieves.

Troops destroyed 60 illegal refining sites and recovered over 712,535 litres of stolen crude oil and 76,800 litres of illegally refined AGO, valued at approximately N712 million.

Buba elaborated on the scope of the operation, highlighting, “During this period, we rescued 157 kidnap victims and confiscated 71 weapons, including 50 AK-47 rifles and various types of ammunition.”

In the Niger Delta, troops dismantled 60 illegal refining sites and seized an array of items, including boats, drums, and vehicles.

The operations underscore the Nigerian military’s ongoing commitment to combating terrorism and oil theft and ensuring the safety and security of the nation.

With these latest developments, the DHQ remains optimistic about the continued success of its operations against criminal activities across the country.
