Online Publishers Demand Immediate Release of Arrested Peoples Gazette’s Journalists

by Folarin Kehinde July 23, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Online Publishers Association of Nigeria (OPAN) strongly condemns today’s raid of online newspaper, Peoples Gazette’s office in Abuja and the subsequent arrest of five journalists by armed policemen.

According to news reports, the policemen forcefully entered the media office and demanded to see managing editor, Samuel Ogundipe and a reporter Adefemola Akintade over a story it published on June 23, 2022, detailing how anti-graft agency, ICPC, raided a property allegedly belonging to a former Chief of Army Staff and current Ambassador to Benin Republic, retired General Tukur Buratai, where it recovered cash and luxury items.

The policemen then arrested five members of staff, John Adenekan, assistant managing editor, Ameedat Adeyemi, Grace Oke, Sammy Ogbu and Justina Tayani, and detained them at the police station.

OPAN in a statement by its President, Austyn Ogannah and General Secretary, Daniel Elombah, notes that the ICPC had confirmed that it executed an operation at the building as reported by Peoples Gazette, but General Buratai thereafter alleged that the story defamed his reputation and complained to the Police at the Utako Police Station in Abuja. “State security services cannot continue this unlawful and crude practice of raiding media houses in a bid to intimidate the press.

Today’s raid of the Peoples Gazette’s office and subsequent arrest of journalists reminds us of the draconian era of military rule, especially during the reign of General Muhammadu Buhari between 1983 and 1985”, OPAN stated. “If retired General Buratai feels he was defamed by the report, the lawful and correct approach would be to sue the news outfit for libel in a court of law.

The days of using state security agencies to harass and intimidate the press and journalists are over. This desecration of people’s rights cannot be tolerated in a democracy any longer,” OPAN further warned. OPAN therefore calls for the immediate release of the journalists and demands an unreserved apology from the police and the Nigerian government over this incident.

Clergymen Are My Targets Because A Gay “Reverend Father “Destroyed My Life — Robbery suspect

by Leading Reporters March 30, 2021
written by Leading Reporters

A robbery suspect, named Federick Ugah who is currently under police custody for armed robbery has disclosed that following his experience with a gay Rev. Father who turned him into his sex toy, he has focused on clergymen for attacks and robbery.

Federick Ugah, who is currently cooling his heels in the cells of the Nasarawa State Police Command, for robbing a clergyman of his car, said he had to drop out of the university as a 400 level student of Law after his frustrations at the hands of a Catholic reverend father he served in Kaduna.

Going down memory lane, Ugah recalled that he started life as an orphan, having lost his parents at a tender age. To realise his ambition of becoming a lawyer, he hit on the idea of seeking help from clergymen. He decided that he would serve them as an altar boy so that in return, they would help him to foot his education bills.

He that he had first secured admission at the University of Abuja to study English before he secured another one at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria to study Law. But that was when he met his frustration as the Reverend Father who was sponsoring him in attempted to turn him into his s*x partner.

Ugah said his resistance to the idea he regarded as an immoral act caused the Reverend Father to frustrate him out of the Catholic Church by falsely accusing him of stealing some money belonging to the parish.

“I have vowed to deal with reverend fathers across the country. They are my target and I will continue to rob them of money and snatch their cars. I was in Abuja with them before I moved to Kaduna State when I got admission in ABU. Then one day, the reverend father I was serving demanded to have s*x with me before my sponsorship could be guaranteed.

I was wondering how a reverend father would turn gay. When I refused, he brought up an allegation against me that I stole parish’s money and should be driven away by the parish. He also poisoned the minds of other reverend fathers who intended to help me,” he said.

He stated it was at that moment his journey into the underworld began as he wasn’t able to graduate from university and his dream of becoming a lawyer dashed.

Two Decomposing Bodies Discovered In Abandoned Vehicle In Abraka

by Leading Reporters March 13, 2021
written by Leading Reporters

The decomposing bodies of two children identified as Fega and Kelvin aged seven and nine years respectively on Tuesday were found in the back seat of an abandoned vehicle in Okpoghoro Street, Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.

Although, the police is yet to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of the two male children, a news that shook Abraka, the mother of the children, Odiri said she last saw her kids yesterday, adding that this morning, she was at the place of her mother-in-law, Felecia to find out if the kids were with her only to be told that they left since yesterday.

However, sources said that the state of the corpses show that the children may have been in the parked vehicle for over two weeks.

While the police is still investigating the matter, the owner of the vehicle, a green tinted Range Rover, Pastor Tayo, was detained by the police, as he expressed surprise at the matter.

Tayo, who works in Warri and on a daily basis shuttles his residence and work place, denied any involvement in the incidence.

Sources said it was the stench of the corpses that drew the attention of neighbours and passers-by that led to a search and the surprising discovery.

Police sources expressed surprise that the mother of the children did not report the case of her missing children to the police.

Odiri, a hairdresser in the Abraka main market, was said to be at her business place when news got to her that her missing children were found lifeless and their corpses decomposing in a parked vehicle.

The said vehicle, we learnt, has been on the same spot for five years which the owner said was abandoned because of the much repairs that the car needed.

A relative of the family who spoke to Oasis Magazine (OM) under conditions of anonymity described the incidence as an act of carelessness.

Many residents in the university town hope in the coming days, a clear picture of what led to the death of the innocent kids would be known.

Odiri is said to be of the Igben family and a mother of five before she lost Tega and Kelvin.

Her husband, Meshack Izagabon died five years ago.

At the time of filing this report, the remains of the children have been buried in Abraka.

Attempts to speak with the police authority in the state proved abortive.
