AI used to improve quality of Tinubu-Kagame Paris meeting – Presidency

by Folarin Kehinde January 5, 2026
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Presidency has debunked reports claiming that a photograph of President Bola Tinubu and Rwandan President Paul Kagame taken in Paris, France, was generated using artificial intelligence.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, described the reports and subsequent social media commentary as a “misrepresentation of facts.”

Ajayi insisted that the photograph was genuine, explaining that both leaders met and shared meals on Sunday during their engagements in Paris.

He said, “The narrative that the picture of Presidents Bola Tinubu and Paul Kagame taken in Paris yesterday was AI-generated is not correct.”

He added, “Both President Kagame and President Tinubu met in Paris and had lunch together on Sunday. The two leaders later had dinner with President Macron the same evening.”

According to him, the controversy stemmed from the poor quality of the original phone photograph, which was later enhanced using the Grok tool.

“The picture was taken with a phone and obviously had poor quality. The photographer only later used Grok to improve the picture quality. That is not a reason to conclude it was AI-generated,” Ajayi said.

He criticised reports suggesting otherwise, saying journalists should have verified the information before publication.

“The writer or editor should have asked questions before this wrong conclusion,” he added.

It was earlier reported that a photograph released by the Presidency showing Tinubu in a meeting with the Rwandan President in Paris had drawn attention after users on X (formerly Twitter) flagged it as artificially generated.

The image, which bore the watermark of Grok, an AI tool developed by Elon Musk’s xAI company, circulated widely on social media on Sunday.

It showed Tinubu and Kagame seated together during what was described as a private engagement in the French capital.

The photograph appeared on the President’s official X handle, where Tinubu said the discussions centred on international developments and the future of the African continent.

“This afternoon, I had a private lunch with H.E. President Paul Kagame of Rwanda to discuss the current state of world affairs and advancing Africa in an ever-changing global landscape,” the President wrote.

His Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, also shared the same image, adding, “President Bola Tinubu at a private lunch in Paris with the President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, discussing world affairs and advancing Africa. Sunday, January 4, 2026.”

However, a Community Note added to the President’s post suggested the picture might not be authentic.

It read, “While a meeting between Mr Tinubu and President Kagame is reported to have been held in Paris, the image in this post appears to be AI-generated, given the GrokAI badge.”

Grok, the AI system referenced, is capable of producing text, generating images, and running real-time online searches.

The controversy has triggered conversations about the appropriateness of using AI-processed images in official government communications, particularly where international engagements are involved.

Tinubu has been in Europe since December 28, having left Lagos for an end-of-year break.

Wike Warns PDP Cannot Defeat Tinubu in 2027 Without Zoning Reform

by Nelson Ugwuagbo May 13, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stands little chance of unseating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election unless it urgently reviews its zoning structure.

Wike issued the warning on Monday during a live media session, expressing strong dissatisfaction over the party’s continued disregard for its constitutional guidelines on rotational leadership. According to him, the refusal to adhere to zoning principles—particularly in the selection of the party chairman and presidential candidate—played a key role in the PDP’s loss in the 2023 elections.

Reflecting on the previous electoral cycle, Wike criticized the emergence of both the party’s national chairman and presidential flagbearer from the northern region, saying it violated the party’s foundational practice of balancing leadership positions across zones. He warned that repeating such a strategy in 2027 would be disastrous.

“If the PDP isn’t careful, it will suffer the same fate. In 2023, we clearly advised that it was time to uphold our tradition—one zone cannot take both the chairman and the presidential ticket. But selfish interests took over, and the rules were ignored,” Wike said.

He further accused certain individuals within the party of manipulating internal processes to serve personal ambitions. He noted that the consequences of those actions included overconfidence and disunity, which contributed to the party’s failure at the polls.

“Before long, people had already purchased nomination forms without any agreement on zoning. When arrogance and selfishness take over, the system suffers. If we don’t learn from 2023 and commit to zoning the presidential ticket to the South, we will face the same outcome,” Wike warned.

His remarks come as former Senate President Adolphus Wabara inaugurated 41 new members into the PDP’s Board of Trustees, urging them to contribute to revitalizing the party.

Nonetheless, Wike insisted that unless the PDP takes decisive steps to correct past mistakes, its aspirations for 2027 may remain out of reach.

Tinubu To Unveil Shettima As Running Mate on Wednesday

by Folarin Kehinde July 19, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to unveil Senator and ex Borno governor, Kashim Shettima tomorrow as his running mate.

According to a statement on Tuesday morning signed by the party’s National Organizing Secretary, Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu, the unveiling event will take place at Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja at 11:00am.

“All Members of the National Executive Committee (NEC), Members of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Members of APC Caucus in the National Assembly, Members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Presidential Aspirants at the June 2022 Special National Convention, APC State Chairmen, APC State Secretaries and APC State Organizing Secretaries, are, hereby, invited to witness this landmark Official Unveiling of our Great Party’s Vice Presidential Candidate,” Argungu said.

This is coming five days after the APC postponed the unveiling with no reason given for the shift in date. Shettima was meant to have been presented to party members at the APC national Secretariat on July 14, but an APC official told reporters the event has been moved forward.

Tinubu had revealed to news men July 10, that Shettima was the chosen one after a close door meeting, he had with President Buhari in Daura, Kastina State.

The ruling party has continued to receive lots of criticisms from concerned Nigerians, religious leaders, opposition parties and the Christians Association of Nigeria for its choice of the former Borno governor as running mate. The backlash is due to the fact that both Tinubu and Shettima are Muslims, therefore their ticket does not take into consideration the religious diversity of the country.

However, the camp of the former Lagos State governor have defended their choice, saying Shettima was the preferred choice because of his quality and not his religious identity.

Mushroom parties, You’ll labour till death, Tinubu attacks PDP, LP

by Leading Reporters July 12, 2022
written by Leading Reporters

Ahead of the governorship election in Osun State, the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday lashed out at the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Labour Party LP, in the state.

Tinubu said the PDP and Labour Party will labour till death.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had scheduled the Osun State governorship election to hold on July 16.

Governor of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola is seeking to return to power for his second term, while Ademola Adeleke of the PDP is the front runner for the gubernatorial race.

LP has Lasun Yusuf as its governorship candidate.

However, Tinubu dismissed the possibility of PDP and LP giving the APC a stiff contest.

Speaking at the party’s mega rally, he described PDP and LP as “mushroom parties”.

He urged residents of Osun State to consider their future and vote for APC.

According to Tinubu: “I ask you to please do the same thing you did in Ekiti. Come out with your PVCs and vote massively for APC.

“The voting is now in your hand. Be very vigilant. Be watchful. You will not do it in vain.

“Think about your children and vote accordingly so you can see the future. Come out en masse. Don’t mind PDP and other mushroom parties — parties like Labour; they will labour till they die. God will not make you labourers.”
