“I was duped by man who promised to make me commandant” – Pastor Adeboye

by Folarin Kehinde September 17, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has disclosed how his ambition to lead a paramilitary group led to a significant personal loss.

Adeboye recounted an incident from years ago when he was deceived by someone claiming to offer him a prestigious position.

He said the man, who presented himself as a recruiter for a new paramilitary agency, convinced him to invest in the venture.

The clergy revealed this in a post on his X handle on Monday.

Describing his decision to trust the man as a lapse in judgment influenced by his past fascination with the military, Adeboye admitted that his desire to fulfil this role led him to act prematurely.

He narrated, “Years ago, I was duped by a man who promised to make me a commandant of a paramilitary group. This man had been sending messages to me through my secretary for a while, and so, one day, I gave him an audience. He explained to me how a Boy-Scouts-like group had evolved into this new agency, and that he was sourcing for who would lead the group spiritually.

“Normally, I ask God before getting involved in anything at all, but this time, my love for the military in my younger days beclouded my best instincts, and I agreed to be their head. He told me that they needed some funding, which I gave as the prospective head. However, I later found out that the man was a fake.”

He, however, noted that the experience birthed the Redemption City corps and a local police post.

“My desire to be part of a paramilitary group made me run ahead of God, but God had already purposed for Redemption City to have its own corps of chaplains as well as a local Police post. He knew the desire of my heart, and He had planned for it to be fulfilled in His own time. I thought that I could bring my desire to fulfilment in my own time, but I was wrong. What I lost in that experience was money, but for someone else, it might have been their life or a loved one.

written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries has addressed online mockery surrounding a recent testimony, emphasizing that the church does not fabricate testimonies.

Pastor Chidi Louis, Head of Public Relations and Media, responded to allegations circulating online regarding a testimony from a church member.

A viral video purportedly showed a member claiming to have disarmed four armed robbers and taken possession of an “AK-27.”

The video had sparked online mockery of The Lords Choosen Church from netizens who have started to create content where they declare unfathomable and silly things and justify it with the term “I am a Choosen”

However, Louis has clarified that the viral video was fabricated.

Louis explained that the woman’s story occurred in a dream, not in reality. He urged Nigerians to disregard the fake video and visit the church’s platform to listen to the complete testimony for better understanding.

The church’s media department also denounced the clip as fake on its platform and urged the public to disregard it. To provide clarity, the full clip of the lady’s testimony was released on the church’s TikTok handle.

Pastor Louis warned, “Don’t believe everything you see on the internet. Bloggers often edit content to ridicule the work of God. Most of these bloggers are wicked and devilish.”

written by Folarin Kehinde

Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party will sign the peace accord ahead of the governorship election in the state scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2024.

Governor Obaseki made the declaration following a closed-door meeting with the caucus of the PDP in Edo State.

He wrote on social media: “Arising from a closed-door meeting of the caucus of our great party, the PDP in Edo State, we wish to thank the Police IG and the Chairman of the INEC for their assurances of providing a level playing field for all players in Saturday’s gubernatorial election in the state.

“As a party, we are ready for the election and confident that the people will make the right choice by voting for our candidates, who stand head and shoulders above the others.

“We are hopeful that with the courts resuming today, all our members who have been detained in Abuja will be released or granted bail to reunite with their families. On that ground, we will consider signing the Peace Accord.”

Recall that the PDP had earlier refused to sign the peace accord initiated by the National Peace Committee led by former Military President, Abdulsalami Abubakar.

The party had lamented over the constant arrest of its supporters in the weeks leading up to the election.

‘At least add beans’, Netizens react to another round of rice distribution by FG

by Folarin Kehinde September 17, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

Some Nigerians seem to have had enough of the frequent distribution of rice by the federal government as a means of alleviating suffering.

Since the current administration came into office, it has relied heavily on the staple, sharing it in different quantities to Nigerians when they deem it necessary.

The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, on Sunday, announced that the federal government has given ministers 1,200 bags of rice each for another round of distribution as palliatives.

A section of social media users have now asked for an addition to the rice to avoid monotony.

@olivepraise on Instagram wrote “no light-share rice, no fuel-share rice, bad govt-share rice, floods-share rice, high electricity tariff-share rice. What is it haven’t you doe enough?”

Also on Instagram, @sisi-yemmie wrote “at least add beans”

@leeeymarrrrh wrote “Even Israelites no eat rice reach Nigerians…wetin happen”

On X, @AfcMacdon wrote, “So it’s only rice that can sort our economic issues in this country… Naija which way forward .. this is getting out of hand”

@maneekofficial raised concern about the rice getting to those who really needed it. He wrote, “You have to be a very lucky person to get that rice, because the rice won’t even get to one percent of the population.”

Tinubu’s sport minister acquires new N150m Car amid worsening economy

by Folarin Kehinde September 17, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

A fresh revelation has emerged about the Minister of Sports, John Enoh, who recently purchased a brand-new Toyota Prado LC300 3.5L Twin Turbo Auto leather seat valued at N142.7 million.

This extravagant spending comes at a time when Nigerians are grappling with the effects of economic hardship.

According to documents, the payment for the luxury vehicle was made on July 8, 2024, to QLS Global Services Limited, the company responsible for supplying the vehicle. An additional N7,137,137.36 was paid to the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) as a 5% tax on the vehicle purchase.

Further investigations revealed that the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, also benefited from similar largesse.

On May 21, 2024, the NFF splurged N87.3 million on an official vehicle for the federation’s president. The funds were paid to Mujaf Automobile Nigeria Ltd.

It can be recalled that the Minister planned to spend N300 million on two vehicles – a Toyota Prado and a Lexus Jeep RX 570 – as captured in the 2024 budget.

The Toyota Prado has now been acquired by the Minister.

Records show that the NFF spent N37 million on auditing services over the past two years. PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) received N18.8 million on May 8, 2024, for auditing the federation’s 2023 accounts. An identical sum was paid for auditing services for the 2022 accounts, and N9.4 million was paid in July 2021 for auditing the 2020 records.

Edo 2024: Diaspora Community Demand INEC Neutrality

by Nelson Ugwuagbo September 16, 2024
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

The Edo Diaspora community has urged the Nigeria Police and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to maintain professionalism and impartiality during the upcoming governorship election in the state on 21 September.

Raymond Osaremen, Deputy Director-General of the Diaspora for Asue/Ogie Campaign Council, addressed newsmen on Monday in Benin, expressing concerns over voter intimidation. He emphasized the need for a free and fair election, calling on security agencies and INEC to ensure a peaceful and transparent process.

Osaremen tasked the authorities to ensure a free, fair, and transparent election.

He emphasised that the role of security agencies was to protect citizens and maintain public order, not to instil fear or interfere with the voting process.

Osaremen urged INEC to ensure a credible election and called for adequate training and equipment for its officers to manage the election transparently.

“We are here today to express our concerns regarding voter intimidation and the role of security agencies.

If left unaddressed, these concerns risk undermining the very foundations of our democracy and eroding the trust that the people have placed in the electoral system.

“Exercise your democratic rights fully, knowing that the future of our state and country lies in your hands.

“We urge you to report any instances of voter intimidation or malpractices to the relevant authorities,” he emphasised.
