Breaking: Presidency Allegedly Scouting For Custom Boss Hamid Ali and NSA Babagana Monguno Replacements

by Leading Reporters March 10, 2021
written by Leading Reporters

There are indications that President Muhammadu Buhari may have succumbed to pressure to lay off the National Security Adviser Babagana Monguno and his counterpart in the Nigeria Customs Service NCS, Col. Hamid Ali (Rtrd), a discreet source has told LeadingReporters.

Babagana Monguno, a retired Army General and former Chief of Defence Intelligence is believed to have been overwhelmed by the insecurity ravaging the country, necessitating his replacement with someone who will bring in fresh ideas on how the government may end insurgency, banditry, terrorism, kidnapping and other forms of criminality that has bedeviled Nigeria perennially.

Col. Ali, who was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari to man Nigeria Customs Service as Sole Administrator following allegation of massive fraud perpetrated by his predecessor, the former and late Comptroller General CG Abdullahi Dikko.

Dikko was believed to have corruptly leveraged his position as the then Comptroller General of Customers to rip the nations of Trillions of Naira.

Col. Hamid Ali (Rtrd), as a Sole Administrator of NCS was expected to man the service for about six months and hand over to a career CG from the service.  However, the Presidency in their wisdom has thus far kept Ali, despite concerns that his age and health may not allow him to optimize his challenges of rejigging the service to a more effective one.

Despite criticism from some quarters that Col. Hamid Ali (Rtrd) has relegated his selflessness and modesty for a more flamboyant lifestyle, including owning new properties here and there and taking in new wife, Ali has succeeded in bringing a good level of discipline in the service which in turn has led to more result-oriented reforms that has increased the fortune of the Service.

Azman’s Air Near-Fatal Landing: Passengers Say Worn-Out Tyres May Be Responsible For The Incident

by Leading Reporters March 10, 2021
written by Leading Reporters

Some passengers onboard Azman Air Boeing 737-500 with Registration Marks SN-SYS, which left from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja to Murtala Mohammed Airport Lagos which lost four tyres on landing on 16th of February believe that bad landing on worn-out tyres may have been the cause of the near-fatal incident involving the aircraft.

The incident happened around 5pm local time in Lagos when the airline from Abuja to Lagos began to experience landing challenges.

Azman Tyres

One of the passengers who spoke to LeadingReporters on condition that his name would not be mentioned said that he started feeling that something was wrong when the pilot kept hovering around the airport.  He said that the pilot made the first attempt at landing, but had to pull up the plane again, citing bad weather condition.

The passenger who boarded the plane said that the landing was so sudden and nerve-cracking that you would know that there was something amiss. He frowned at what he described as desperate moves by the owners of the airline to stop them from taking pictures, insisting that it infringed their right to be well informed about what happened.

LR- Azman

“Trying to force us not to take pictures was a desperate move by the airliner.  Possibly, there was something they wanted to hide. It was the height of insensitivity to treat passengers who narrowly escaped being perished the way they did.  They seemed more concerned in keeping their names than caring about the passengers.

“We thought we were not going to make it.  In fact, I started noticing that something was wrong when the pilot began to hover around the airport.  He made the first attempt at landing and suddenly pulled up the plane.  I knew something was wrong.  He announced inclement weather, but it seemed something much more than that.

LR Azman

The plane almost land-crashed.  When we were evacuated, something told me that the problem may be with the tyre.  I looked at the tyres.  I counted four burst tyres.  But beyond that, you’d notice that some of the tyres are so badly worn out before the burst.  The pictures are here to speak for themselves.

The aircraft, was said to have 49 passengers on board and 6 crew members. It had 4 burst tyres on landing on Runway 18R of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria.

Azman Tyres

All effort to get the management of Azman Air to address the allegations were unsuccessful as the person who spoke to our Lead Investigation Editor said he was not in a position to answer and could not link LeadingReporters to Azman Communication Department.

Appeal to the Federal Ministry of Education to pay salaries of recruited teachers in unity schools

by Folarin Kehinde February 8, 2021
written by Folarin Kehinde

We are appealing to the Federal Ministry of Education led by Prof. Adamu Adamu to kindly look into the matter of the nonpayment of the unity schools teachers recruited within the period of 2018/2019.

Over a session has been completed with the full commitment of these teachers to their duty with no hope of IPPIS capturing needless to say payment insight.

We have worked for the past 2years without being paid a dine. The period of lockdown has really been gruesome for our families as there is no money to feed our family.

Many other ministries that recruited at the same time have been captured on IPPIS platform and have since been receiving their salaries.

We understand that teachers in few parts of the country were recently captured, whereas other teachers in the remaining parts of the country have been waiting in futility to be captured.

This delay in IPPIS capturing and the consequent nonpayment of our salaries have made life unbearable for us.

Please, we call on the Minister for Education, Prof. Adamu and the Permanent Secretary Arc. Echono to kindly help us resolve this issue so that our suffering and pain and that of our families can be alleviated. They lamented in tears.

“Hushpuppi” in Ondo State Govt House: Wired N4.3b to secret account, set aside N10.7b to fund “Revolution Now”: Group Alleges

by Folarin Kehinde February 1, 2021
written by Folarin Kehinde

While the case of a Nigeria-born Dubai-based alleged internet fraudster popularly known as Hushpuppi rages on, a group that identified itself as the All Progressive Congress Integrity Group has alleged that there is another Hushpuppi in the helm of affairs in Ondo State that needs to be investigated.

The group alleges that the State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, through what they described as “Vicious Cabal of The State Executive Branch” did not only corner N4.3billion into a secret bank account but was instrumental in the sponsoring of “Revolution Now” with a whooping sum of N10.7b.

The group said that the Vicious Cabal run and funded by the Executive Governor of Ondo State, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu refused to account for the money and rather deceived the stakeholders that the money has long been spent.

In a petition to anti-corruption agencies, signed by one Olushola Adebayo which was obtained by LeadingReporters, the group claimed the said money belonged to the State, but was siphoned into a hidden account in the State.  The group said the fund was part of the funds and assets handed over the current administration by its predecessor.

The group as well said that the State Governor diverted another N10.7billion.  The fund was discovered in 2018 which the state Governor set aside to aid “Revolution Now”

All you need to about money laundering (Part 1)

by Folarin Kehinde February 1, 2021
written by Folarin Kehinde

In my experience, neither regular citizen nor those employed in the financial industry really have a clue about what money laundering is or how investigators can follow the money trail to un-coup many other types of crime.

People commit crimes for many reasons i.e. Love, Hate, Politics, Revenge. But mostly, they do it for the money. Every time a crime is committed and money is generated, a bad guy is faced with a problem. That is, how he can conceal the fruits of his crime. He needs to clean up the proceeds of his crime. He needs to launder the money. He needs to make the transaction looks legitimate. All these need to be done for him to be seen as the good guy.

Money Laundering means taking money derived from an illegal act and then putting it through a number of steps so that ultimately that same money appears to have been derived from something legitimate.

History of Money Laundering

The term “Money Laundering” was first coined in the 1930s by the U.S Treasury Agents who were trying to lock up AL Capone. In those days, very few people had running water, much less a washing machine, so commercial laundries were very common. Capone and his mob owned hundreds of laundries in and around Chicago and they disguised the earnings from their Liquor business as money honestly earned from operating the laundries…

We live at the mercy of organized crime every single day of our lives and most people (Nigerians) never even noticed it. It affects everything that we do. Think about a typical day in your own life. You get up in the morning and get dressed; you put on that new shirt that you just bought and a button pops off as you button up.  You paid as much as N25,000 for that choice shirt of yours, because it has a label of one of the famous  Italian designers.  In fact, you actually paid more for the shirt because of the name and the label. And what you don’t know is that the shirt wasn’t manufactured in Italy but in Aba, in a factory controlled by a politician that manufactures knock offs of everything from shirts to car spare parts.

You get into your car and you drive to work, Traffic is terrible. A car has broken down and is blocking traffic, the engine has stalled because there is dirt in the fuel gas line. The car owner bought fuel at a small fuel station that purchases its product from a company that is controlled by organized crime. And these organized crime guys buy low quality fuel, bribe the authorities whose responsibility it is to check the quality of the fuel imported and smuggle it into the country and sell it at a reduced price to small independent marketers who in turn sell same to you.

A little later on traffic slows again, contractors who were originally awarded the paving contract had mob connections and were able to rig the bid in the tender process so they came in with lowest price. But to make money at that price, they only put down half an inch of asphalt instead of the full inch that were supposed to. When the inspector from the city came to check the quality of the work, whether it tallies with what was agreed on, they gave him some money and he looks the other way.

The whole thing is giving you heartburn you can’t take it anymore after a long hectic day, you head for your favourite bar but it’s closed, out of business. It seems that they just couldn’t compete with the bar across the street, a new place where they don’t seem to be that interested in making a profit, why? Because it’s owned by the organization that imported the pot that your son got caught with, and they are using the bar to launder the proceeds of their drug sales or political loots.

Organized crime touches us all every day in ways that perhaps you never even consider. Keep your eyes open….. (To be continued)

SON alerts on under dispensing of medical gases – Warn plant owers

by Folarin Kehinde February 1, 2021
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has issued an alert to the public on recent complaints received on under-dispensing of oxygen and other medical gases by plant owners in some parts of the country.

A statement from the office of the Director General, Mallam Farouk Salim described Oxygen as a critical product in the treatment of respiratory ailments in emergency situations, particularly in the management of the COVID-19 pandemic, stressing that its use by certified medical personnel is strictly in recommended volumes and dosages for effectiveness in treatment.

According to the SON Chief Executive, the inadequacy in volume and dosage of oxygen and other medical gases has been reported to have consequences on the treatment of patients in the country resulting to loss of lives in some cases.

He therefore warned Gas Plants across the country to ensure accurate volume in the sale of oxygen and other medical gases to Customers as a matter of responsibility.

Mallam Salim admonished health institutions and Practitioners to carefully and regularly check the pressure of Oxygen and other medical gas cylinders for strict compliance with labelled specifications.

He disclosed that SON Offices across the 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory have been directed to ensure close monitoring and strict compliance with standards of volume in the sale of oxygen and other medical gases to Customers by Gas Plants

The SON Director General warned that any Gas Plant or Dealer found to be under-dispensing oxygen or other medical gases would be made to face the full weight of the law as enshrined in the SON Act No. 14 of 2015.

Insecurity: Sack Isah Pantami for his devious past and terrorism tendencies: Group writes Buhari, AU, US, EU others

by Leading Reporters January 31, 2021
written by Leading Reporters

A group known as Security Watchers has written to President Muhammudu Buhari, Head of African Union, United States of America, European Union and other security stakeholders alleging that the current Minister of Communication Sheik Isah Pantami and Digital Economy has long history of fanaticism and provocative activities.

The group said that Pantami’s antecedence suggests a systematic link and subtle sympathy with terrorist organisation, making him unfit to head a ministry as sensitive as Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy. “Insecurity thrives on compromised communication management”.  The group wrote.

Part of the letter sighted by LeadingReporters reads:

“A man who was banished from Bauchi State at one point in time because of his activities which caused security breach cannot be honoured with a national assignment, more especially when the menace of Boko Haram, Banditry and other forms of criminalities is ravaging the nation and impoverishing millions of Nigerians.

“Security is hinged on communication.  A compromised communication system will aid terrorism, kidnapping, banditry and other forms of criminalities as we are currently experiencing in Nigeria under Pantami as Minister of communication.

“These criminals make calls, send messages and execute their nefarious plans in Nigeria leveraging on communication.  In other nations, most of the criminal activities have been traced through communication – calls and sms.  Pantami has either refused to initiate strategies through which these criminals should be nabbed or he does not know a jack about the ministry he prides himself as a sage.

The group further appeals to President Buhari and other stakeholders to reinvestigate the reason why Pantami was banished from Bauchi and reconsider if he is fit for a position of a minister in a sensitive ministry as ministry of communication and digital economy.

“The country now needs people with verifiable profiles and clean past that do not suggest allegiance to terrorist groups.  Pantami is highly sectional, laden with religious bigotry.  He may be selling out.

“Go through his social media official handle.  It speaks volume of a man who knows nothing about social cohesion and tolerance.  He only replies to comments made by those whose names suggest they hail from a particular side of Nigeria and from a particular religion.  That speaks volume of his precedence.

President Buhari’s nephew Sabiu Tunde allegedly joins NIA for diplomatic immunity

by Folarin Kehinde January 28, 2021
written by Folarin Kehinde

President Buhari’s nephew Tunde, as he is fondly called, has by this, joined other cabal members to look for diplomatic shield and immunity that may protect them from the scimitar of law in the event of any eventuality or should President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure ends and a probe is launched against his tenure by President Buhari’s successor, a discreet source revealed. The new job offer is discreet and would only be leveraged when the need arises.  He would still remain President Buhari’s personal assistant in the villa.

Unlike other members of the inner caucus popular called the “Villa Cabal” like the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami and Minister of State for Aviation Sariki Hadi who, this platform learnt are vying for governorship positions in their respective states which will grant them immunity from prosecution if they win, Sabiu Tunde Yusuf on the other hand would seek for his own ‘shield’ from NIA as he would be immediately deployed overseas where he diplomatic immunity would shield him from any prosecution or probe in Nigeria.

President Buhari‘s nephew appointment, from our investigation would enable Yusuf exit Nigeria and enjoy diplomatic immunity from any form of prosecution should Buhari’s successor chooses to probe President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure, especially the cabal members.

Recall that critics and some prominent Nigerians have continued to raise their voices against the prevailing insecurity and the President’s refusal to sack the service chiefs amidst untamed corruption and other forms of criminality which has bedeviled Nigeria for some times now.  Another major concern is the accusation that President Muhammadu Buhari left governance in the hands of unpatriotic elements who have put selfish and personal interests above national interests.

Nigeria’s rising debt profile, and the President’s untamed quest for foreign loan have been described as the Nigeria development greatest threat.

Recently, President Buhari’s closest ally and the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai has recently spoke up against the increasing debt profile of Nigeria. El-Rufai, who is known to be a strong pillar of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration said that Nigeria has reached its borrowing limit. He said that Nigerians should be concerned about Nigeria’s rising debt profile.

Three Nigeria Banks may collapse in 2021 Over negative balance sheet and rougher business outlook

by Folarin Kehinde January 28, 2021
written by Folarin Kehinde

As it stands now, according to an insider source who would want to remain anonymous, some Nigeria banks have been run into obligations that have far outweighed their incomes and stirred red balance sheets. Another reason identified for this looming danger is the disreputable and unprofessional activities of some bank Chief Executive Officers which the banking regulator, the Godwin Emefiele-led Central Bank of Nigeria CBN has condoned and concealed for them overtime now.

“These banks are standing on far borrowed legs and have been technically illiquid for a long time.  But the regulator seems to look the other way round”, the source told this media platform.

“Bad and nonperforming loans, mostly extended to allies and politically exposed people who receive these loans and in most cases, share with top bank echelons, as well as the current economic realities may spell this looming doom on some of these banks in 2021”.

“In virtually all the cases, these loans continue to appear on the banks’ books as assets.  This is the height of deception that has overtime been condoned by Emefiele-led CBN”.

Another source hinted that the Godwin Emefiele-led Central Bank of Nigeria CBN has compromised all known banking tenets and standards and has overtime condoned irregularities, and allowed manipulations of figures by the bank echelons, because of unwholesome affiliations and relationships that exist between the CBN echelons and some bank executives.

Our investigation further revealed that while some of these banks may suddenly go down irrecoverably, others may seek mergers with other stronger banks.

Perennially, Godwin Emefiele has allegedly allowed lots of rots in the banking sectors.  The rots were seen in other agencies and companies affiliated to CBN such as NIRSAL, Nigeria Security Printing and Minting, NEXIM Bank, among others where the Central Bank Governor’s “boys” currently hold sway.

Recall that this media platform has previously exposed the level of fraudulent activities going on in NIRSAL where proxy-companies are used to fleece monies.

CBN Governor’s critics allege that the Governor has dumped the banking tenets and standards in order to remain in the good books of Nigeria power brokers, especially the “Cabal” members whom Emefiele has been accused of serving more than he serves the nation banking sector.

“The Governor is in the fore of this decay and unless he is awakened fast, we may see a repeat of what happens previously where depositors lose their hard earned monies as a result of bad banking policies and untamed corruption”

All efforts to hear from the Central Bank of Nigeria over the allegations were unsuccessful as at the time of publishing this report.

Northern Governors welcome appointment of new service chiefs

by Folarin Kehinde January 27, 2021
written by Folarin Kehinde

The forum has also commended the outgone Service Chiefs for giving their best in the service of the nation.

The Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong in a statement, commended the President for taking the decision and asked the new Service Chiefs to put in their best, not only to meet the expectations of the Commander-in-Chief, but also that of Nigerians, who have high expectations for enhanced security and safety of lives and properties.

He charged them to build on the successes of their predecessors and also learn from their challenges, in order to address the lingering problems of terrorism, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes that the nation has been battling to contain.

Lalong assured the Service Chiefs of the support and collaboration of the Northern Governors Forum, in addressing insecurity in the region and the nation as a whole, in order to enable the citizens pursue their legitimate businesses, without any hindrance.

He appealed to Nigerians to support and pray for the new Service Chiefs as they provide leadership for the patriotic officers and men of the Armed Forces, to put up a final onslaught against the protracted security challenges.

Governor Lalong also thanked the former Service Chiefs for their courage, sacrifices and commitment to protecting Nigeria’s territotial integrity and dealing with internal threats, during their stewardship, and wished them well in their future endeavours.
