Honorable Wole Oke and the Israeli Lobby: A Question of Loyalty and National Interest

by Nelson Ugwuagbo October 9, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

“Loyalty to foreign lobbies is treachery to national interest”

In an era when foreign influence has become the new frontier of modern geopolitics, Nigeria must guard its sovereignty with vigilance.

The quiet infiltration of foreign lobbying and disinformation networks has reached alarming levels globally, and Israel has emerged as one of the most aggressive players in this new information battleground.

Recent reports and observations of Honourable Wole Oke, Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, engaging closely with Israeli diplomats, therefore raise troubling questions about where national loyalty begins and where foreign agendas intrude.

Israel’s strategic communications networks have long extended beyond conventional diplomacy. Across Europe, the United States, and Africa, Tel Aviv has invested heavily in influence operations, funding think tanks, online campaigns, and political proxies to push narratives that align with its foreign policy objectives.

From normalization efforts in the Middle East to countering pro-Palestinian solidarity in Africa, Israel has sought to shape political attitudes through selective partnerships, soft diplomacy, and targeted elite engagement.

In this context, any Nigerian public official cultivating unusually close ties with Israeli diplomats must be viewed through the lens of strategic caution.

Nigeria’s foreign policy anchored historically on justice, non-alignment, and African solidarity stands at odds with Israel’s aggressive lobbying strategies, particularly as Gaza continues to bleed and international consensus calls for restraint and accountability.

Hon. Wole Oke’s recent interactions with Israeli officials led my Amb Michael Freeman have not gone unnoticed within diplomatic circles.

While parliamentary diplomacy is legitimate, the perception of alignment with a foreign agenda especially one that conflicts with Nigeria’s official positions at the United Nations and the African Union is deeply problematic.

Nigeria’s position on Palestine has remained consistent since independence: a call for a two-state solution, human rights, and international law.

To be seen “hobnobbing” with Israeli envoys at a time when the world condemns Tel Aviv’s actions risks undermining the integrity of Nigeria’s diplomatic voice and emboldening those who seek to divide African consensus on issues of justice and peace.

Nigeria’s leadership in Africa has always been grounded in principled foreign policy, not transactional alliances. The nation has stood with oppressed peoples from South Africa under apartheid to Palestine under occupation guided by moral consistency rather than short-term gain.

For a senior legislator to lend legitimacy to a foreign power currently accused of human rights violations and information manipulation campaigns is not only tone-deaf; it is contrary to Nigeria’s moral and diplomatic heritage.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In a statement issued in Abuja by the Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi, the commission announced that the exercise, earlier scheduled to end on Wednesday, will now continue until Sunday, October 12, 2025.

According to Eta-Messi, as of October 7, 2025, a total of 55,346 new voter registrations had been recorded in the FCT. The figure includes 38,528 online pre-registrations and 16,818 completed physical registrations.

The extension, INEC said, is aimed at allowing more eligible residents of the FCT to participate in the registration process ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Cristiano Ronaldo Becomes First Footballer to Reach $1.4 Billion Net Worth

written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

Portuguese football icon Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first active footballer to attain billionaire status, with a net worth estimated at $1.4 billion, according to Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index.

Ronaldo’s wealth stems largely from over $1.25 billion in career earnings, complemented by a $400 million tax-free contract extension with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, signed in June 2025.

In addition to his playing income, the 40-year-old star earns more than $100 million annually from lucrative endorsement deals with global brands such as Nike and Armani.

Despite his age, Ronaldo continues to perform at an elite level, having scored over 900 career goals and remaining a key figure for Portugal’s national team.

His achievement distinguishes him from sports legends like Michael Jordan, whose billionaire status came after retirement, underscoring Ronaldo’s unprecedented financial success while still active in professional football.

Zulum Gifts Anambra Health Worker Gets House, Son Employment for 24 Years of Service

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has rewarded Mrs. Marbel Ijeoma Duaka, a health worker from Anambra State, with a fully furnished two-bedroom house in recognition of her dedication and service to the state.

Governor Zulum also announced an automatic employment offer for her son, Anthony, a graduate of Banking and Finance, at the state-owned Kashim Ibrahim University, Maiduguri.

Presenting the house key to Mrs. Duaka, the governor commended her for over two decades of selfless service at the Primary Healthcare Centre in Mafa Local Government Area, where she continued to work throughout the height of the Boko Haram insurgency.

“She has been working here for over 24 years and has never left Mafa for a single month. During the Boko Haram crisis, most people fled the town, but she stayed throughout the conflict despite being a non-indigene,” Zulum said.

The governor further revealed that Mrs. Duaka had treated many members of his family, including his late mother.

“The allocation letter should be issued in your name. Do not leave Mafa, even after you retire,” he directed.

Zulum added, “Your son, Anthony, will be given automatic employment at the Kashim Ibrahim University, Maiduguri. His employment takes effect immediately.”

Police Suspend Tinted Glass Permit Enforcement Following Court Order

by Nelson Ugwuagbo October 8, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Police Force has suspended the enforcement of the vehicle tinted glass permit following a court order halting the exercise.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the development on Wednesday during an interview on AIT.

According to Adeh, the decision came after the police officially received the court order.

“Information reaching me from the office of the PRO is that the order has been received, and the enforcement of the tinted permit is now on hold pending the court’s verdict,” she stated.

She explained that the suspension would remain in effect until the legal process is concluded.

“We are waiting for the verdict. We are not against the courts, and we will continue to wait until we get a verdict,” Adeh added.

The police spokesperson further clarified that the tinted glass permit policy was introduced for security reasons, noting that some criminal activities had been perpetrated using vehicles with darkened windows.

“The law was not made by us. We are enforcers. The policy was purely security-driven. Some criminals were using tinted vehicles to commit offences, making it difficult for law enforcement to identify suspects,” she said.

FG Seeks Fresh $2b Dollars China Loan For Power Grid

by Nelson Ugwuagbo October 7, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

The Federal Government is in advanced negotiations with China’s Export-Import Bank for a $2 billion loan to finance the construction of a new electricity super grid aimed at addressing Nigeria’s chronic power supply challenges.

According to Bloomberg, the proposed project is designed to boost power transmission across the country’s eastern and western regions, where most of Nigeria’s industrial consumers are located.

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, revealed the plan during an economic summit in Abuja on Monday, explaining that the initiative forms part of the government’s broader strategy to decentralise power generation and strengthen the national grid.

“It’s part of plans to decentralise power generation in Nigeria and get the heavy commercial users that left the power grid because of its unreliability to return,” Adelabu said.

Nigeria currently has an electricity generation capacity of about 13 gigawatts, but only a third of that reaches consumers due to transmission inefficiencies and frequent system collapses.

The new super grid project is expected to improve reliability, encourage industrial users to reconnect to the national grid, and support economic growth through more stable energy supply.

The Kano State Government has enrolled 380 youths into the State Corporate Security Institute in Gabasawa for paramilitary training aimed at curbing phone snatching, thuggery, and other related crimes across the state.

The Commandant of the institute, Captain Muhammad Mai Gaskiya (rtd), said the training programme is designed to equip participants with skills in phone snatching prevention, VIP protection, and defensive driving. He added that the exercise also includes lectures by officials from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and counselling sessions conducted by Hisbah personnel.

According to him, parade drills and physical fitness exercises are also key components of the training, intended to build discipline and resilience among the trainees.

Captain Mai Gaskiya urged the participants to take the training seriously, noting that upon successful completion, they would be absorbed as civil servants to support security operations and help maintain law and order in Kano State.

Nigerians Call for Minister Uche Nnaji Resignation Over Alleged Certificate Forgery

by Nelson Ugwuagbo October 6, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

Pressure is growing on Nigeria’s Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Uche Nnaji, to step down following allegations of certificate forgery.

Two prominent civil society organisations — the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) and Transparency International Nigeria — have urged the minister to resign and apologise to Nigerians over the scandal.

CISLAC’s Executive Director, Comrade Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, made the call in an interview with newsmen, stressing that public officials should uphold integrity and transparency.

Rafsanjani noted that politicians are not required to possess university degrees to hold office, as the constitution permits individuals with school-leaving certificates to serve. He, however, condemned any form of dishonesty in credentials.

“If you lie on your certificate, whether it’s a degree or not, you should simply resign once it’s exposed,” Rafsanjani said. “You cannot promote lies and fraud while in leadership. What example are you setting?”

He added that the minister’s continued stay in office may be due to his closeness to the president, but insisted that “leaders must lead by example.”

Rafsanjani further urged President Bola Tinubu to act decisively, warning that keeping officials with integrity issues undermines public trust.

“There are several ministers and public officials facing serious integrity challenges — from corruption allegations to certificate scandals,” he said. “If you want citizens to respect leadership, you cannot have people with damaged reputations in office.”

He also referenced a recent controversy involving a presidential aide who allegedly claimed a degree from a European university that later denied any affiliation.

As of press time, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), under which Nnaji serves, has not issued an official statement on the matter.

JUST IN: French Prime Minister Lecornu Resigns Hours After Unveiling Cabinet

by Nelson Ugwuagbo October 6, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

France’s Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has resigned, just hours after announcing his new cabinet, throwing the French government into fresh turmoil.

According to the BBC, the Elysée Palace confirmed the surprise resignation on Monday following a one-hour meeting between Lecornu and President Emmanuel Macron.

The abrupt move comes less than a month after Lecornu was appointed to succeed François Bayrou. His cabinet lineup had faced sharp criticism from several parties in the National Assembly for retaining many of Bayrou’s ministers. Opposition lawmakers had also threatened to reject the government in an upcoming confidence vote.

Lecornu’s sudden departure leaves President Macron once again searching for a new head of government amid mounting political tension in Paris.

Atiku Abubakar Express Readiness To Step Aside For Younger Candidate in 2027 Elections

by Nelson Ugwuagbo October 2, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed readiness to shelve his presidential ambition in 2027 if a younger, vibrant, and widely accepted candidate emerges under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Atiku made the disclosure during an interview with BBC Hausa Service on Wednesday, stressing that his interest in the 2027 election is not driven by personal ambition but by the need to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative.

The former PDP presidential candidate urged young Nigerians to take active roles in politics, assuring that he would throw his full weight behind any youthful contender capable of uniting the country.

“I am not desperate for the seat of the president. My concern is rescuing Nigeria from those who have held it hostage,” Atiku stated.

He added: “My being in the 2027 race does not prevent anyone from contesting. If a vibrant and widely accepted younger candidate emerges, I am willing to step aside.”
