“It is fake news, we are not reducing price of cement” Dangote Group

by Folarin Kehinde September 25, 2023
written by Folarin Kehinde

Dangote Group has denied claims making the round of reducing the price of Cement to N2,700 per 50-kilogramme bag from N5,500.

Anthony Chiejine, Spokesperson for Dangote Group, disclosed this on Monday.

Chiejine described the claim as fake news.

“It is fake news”, he said in a terse reply.

His reaction comes amid speculation that the Dangote group crashed the cement price by 50 per cent with effect from October 1st, 2023.

Earlier, Bahir Ahmad, media aide to former president Muhammadu Buhari, had commented that the report was fake.

Ahmad made this known through his official X handle on Sunday.

“The Dangote Group has denied the trending reports that it has reduced the price of cement from N5,500 to N2,700 effective October 1st”, he wrote.

The price of a 50kg bag of cement is sold between N4,600 to N6,000 in Lagos, Ogun, Ondo and Abuja.

However, barely two weeks ago, BUA Cement had hinted at plans to reduce the price of a 50kg bag of cement to between N3,000 and N3,500.

BUA chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu disclosed this after meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Wike revokes Peter Obi Katampe Abuja Plot

by Folarin Kehinde September 22, 2023
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike has revoked Peter Obi Katampe plot. Obi’s plot of land is among the 165 plots revoked by Wike most recently on grounds that the allottees are yet to develop them.

Recall that Wike has announced the revocation of 167 plots of land in some highbrow districts of the nation’s capital, Abuja.

Some of the areas worse hit are Maitama, Gudu, Wuye which had the highest revocation, 41; Katampe, Katampe Extension, Wuse 2, Jabi, Utako, Idu Industrial zone, and Asokoro which had the second highest revocation, 39.

In a notice issued Thursday night in Abuja, the administration said the plots were revoked due to the refusal or failure of their allottees to develop them.

“The Federal Capital Territory Administration FCTA hereby informs the general public that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory has, in the exercise of the powers conferred on him under Section 28(5)(a) & (b) of the Land Use Act 1978, revoked the underlisted plots with names and titles as reflected in our records for continued contravention of the terms of development of the Right of Occupancy to wit non-development”, the administration said in the notice signed by the Permanent Secretary, Mr Olusade Adesola.

According to Vanguard Newspaper, some of the plots revoked in Maitama district A05 had names like Liyel Imoke, Musa Aboki Egu, Hassan Hadejia and Ishaya Baba.

In Jabi, some of the plots revoked had allottees such as Sam Nda-Isaiah, and Donubari Josephine Kogbara, while Katampe district had Peter Gregory Obi, BUA international among others.

In other areas, this revoked had names as Julius Berger Nigeria, Honeywell Construction, Uffot Joseph Ekaette, Shittu Mohammed, Udoma Udo Udoma, Kanu Agabi, Niki Niki Tobi, Ishaku Bello, and others.

Wike had on assumption of office vowed to restore the master plan of the territory and revoke plots that had not been developed or those whose ground rents have not been paid for years.

He had consequently given a two-week grace to allottees to pay their ground rents or risk revocation of their allocations.

‘Create Policy on Community Network for Internet Connectivity’, CITAD tells FG

by Folarin Kehinde September 21, 2023
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Executive Director, Center for Information, Technology, and Development (CITAD) Dr. Y.Z Ya’u has charged the federal government to develop policies on community network to enhance internet access to unserved and underserved communities in Nigeria.

Ya’u while speaking in Abuja on Thursday at a roundtable discussion on Last Minute Connectivity (LMC) stated the policy if developed will empower 27.1 million Nigerians who lack internet access and enhance stronger network access across the country.

He explained that the policy if developed should also specify the fee for license at an affordable amount for the community, unlike the urban areas.

“We need to empower communities in those places to build stronger network and for you to do that you need a policy that will specify how much they can pay for license because they can’t charge like the urban areas

“Way forward for us is that Nigeria government should come up with policy on community network.”

Meanwhile, Ya’u noted that the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) which is supposed to be used to fund the internet access for the communities are being used for community development project which is not supposed to be, hence such practice should be stopped.

“The Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) is established as an agency to help bridge the digital divide in the country and it is supposed to be financed in three ways: through grants from organizations, government can provide fund, but most importantly, event telecommunication owner is supposed to pay 2.5% of its revenue to USPF, 40% is supposed to go to the USPF youth and the rest goes to the NCC which issues the license

“That money by law is supposed to address the challenges of communities that have no access to communication but they money is not being used for that purpose but otherwise used for constituency project which the community already has, that’s a waste of resources so we are saying that this shouldn’t be the case, it should be on the basis of the need where they lack connectivity access.”

BREAKING: CBN Postpones MPC Meeting Indefinitely

by Folarin Kehinde September 21, 2023
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has postponed the 293rd meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC).

No reason was given by the apex bank which made the announcement in a release by the CBN spokesman, Abdulmumin Isa.

Isa said a new date will be communicated.

The MPC, which was scheduled for Monday and Tuesday next week, would have afforded the committee to opportunity to review the hawkwish interest rate position of the CBN amidst growing inflation concern.

Analyst expect the meeting to also serve as a validation session as President Bola Tinubu has named new governor and deputy governors for the bank, awaiting confirmation by the Senate.

It is unclear if the leadership change at the bank is the cause of the postponement.

Last week Tinubu named Yemi Cardoso as the new CBN governor and Sani Ahmad Dattijo, Mrs. Emem Nnana Usoro, Mr. Philip Ikeazor, and Dr. Bala M. Bello as deputy governors.

Tinubu’s Aide makes U-turn, delete Post On N15m Donation To MohBad’s Son

by Folarin Kehinde September 21, 2023
written by Folarin Kehinde

There is confusion surrounding the donation of N15 million to the son of Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Promise Aloba, aka MohBad.

In a post on Thursday on X, Tinubu’s Special Assistant on Social Media Olusegun Dada posted a photo of receipt of the donation Seyi, first son of President Bola Tinubu, made to Mohbad’s son.

He captioned it, “The figurative apple that did not fall far from the tree #RIPIMOLE. Thank you ST.”

However, the post was pulled down a few hours later, with no explanation given.

After he took down the post, social media influencer, Japhet Omojuwa, put up a lengthy post on Twitter, denying that Seyi made the donation.

“Seyi Tinubu didn’t donate N15m to Mohbad’s kid or family. I would know, because I have been discussing with him on the issue for several days.

“Bell Schmurda mentioned Seyi in a tweet and I immediately forwarded it to him. The same way I have forwarded tweets around policy interventions to him and he’s gone ahead to help advance causes. When I know the source of the relevant tweet, I message them to let them know I am helping to push the matter. This time, he called me and asked what he could do. I shared my thoughts.

“I said not to get sucked into the social media thing because whatever he said or did would be politicised. I then went on to say, irrespective of that, we should prioritise his family, especially his kid. He said he’d commit to the kid’s education and also support the wife immediately. But we also knew there was still a danger of that getting used against him politically – that’s the world we now live in. It is what it is, it’s why one can only move the best way one can.

“I sent a message to one of my friends in the industry who himself has also been involved with the Mohbad issue – without making any social media noise whilst getting dragged for not tweeting lol.

“Without knowing what I had shared with Seyi, he also advised to hold on. That he would do the necessary connections when it is convenient to do so without appearing to be getting in the way of anything. Any rational person wouldn’t need an explanation for the hesitations around the issue. It’s the intersection of a criminal matter and social media narratives.

“I’d ordinarily ignore these things. I have come to know that for all its power and essence, some things cannot be done by tweeting.

“Just to be clear, the N15m making the rounds that Seyi donated is not true. My position is obvious – if you can comprehend what you read – I was involved with him on this matter from the get go.

“And if you want to know how he is ultimately supporting the kid and the wife, I don’t think that’s my business to say. And frankly speaking, I don’t think it matters. That’s left for those who received what to say.

“This post was made for those who need clarity on the matter. Love and light to every sensible person out here. And especially everyone who genuinely care about Mohbad, his memory, family and his legacy. Including those not doing social media posts.

“Rest in peace Mohbad. As we stay in pursuit of justice, it is my hope that the kid he left behind gets all the support he needs, long after social media moves to the next thing. Because it will.”

The president’s son is yet to speak on the issue.

Mohbad: Busola Oke curses Gbenga Adewusi for destroying career over refusal to have sex with him

by Folarin Kehinde September 21, 2023
written by Folarin Kehinde

Nigerian gospel singer Busola Oke has stirred reactions online after publicly accusing her former record label boss, Gbenga Adewusi, of depriving her of her earnings.

She made these allegations on her Instagram page, coincidentally following the passing of singer Mohbad, who had been a notable voice in the music industry.

Oke alleged that Gbenga Adewusi, a veteran music producer and promoter, took control of her music income after she rejected his sexual advances.

She claimed that her financial situation deteriorated due to the label’s actions, forcing her to sell her assets because she refused to become part of a group of women under his influence.

In her social media posts, Oke expressed strong anger towards Gbenga Adewusi, asserting that she could have achieved significant wealth and recognition if not for what she described as his lust and greed.

She revealed that she was rendered broke by the label and was compelled to sell her assets because she refused to be part of his harems of women.

Laying curses on him, she noted how she would have achieved substantial wealth and recognition if not for his lust and greed.
