TINUBU’S Drug Money Laundering Reports Has Increased Our Website Visitors – U.S Group

by Folarin Kehinde July 21, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

A US legal website, PlainSite.org, has insisted that its website witnessed a surge resulting from files about the drug money forfeiture case on the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2023 general, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

PlainSite.org is a website that posts court documents and thus makes criminal records and case dockets on individuals or entities easier to find.

In a tweet, the site compared visitors to that of American billionaire, Elon Musk’s lawsuit, adding that the visitors drawn to Tinubu’s money laundering file eclipsed that of Mr Musk.

The website had recently uploaded dockets of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate’s drug money forfeiture case files in the United States (US).

The files from 1993 recently became awash on social media.

The site listed that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu committed 5 crimes per the IRS Cl affidavit which included  Money laundering (18 U.S.C. § 1956), Using funds from unlawful activity (18 U.S.C. § 1957).

Furthermore, it also listed Bank fraud (18 U.S.C. § 1344), Failure to file tax returns (26 U.S.C. § 7203), Lying to federal agents (18 U.S.C. §) among cases against the APC Presidential candidate.

Available records show that In July 1993, when Asiwaju Bola Tinubu briefly served as a senator, the US government filed a forfeiture lawsuit in Chicago against bank accounts in his name.

It was alleged, there was “probable cause” to believe they held the proceeds of heroin dealing.

The case followed a probe by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and other agencies into a trafficking network involving Nigerian suppliers.

The IRS secured warrants in January 1992 to seize almost $2 million, according to court filings.

Tinubu settled out of court in September 1993, agreeing to give up $460,000 to the US government in exchange for the release of the rest of the money.

Tinubu wasn’t indicted over the matter.

Zamfara Governor Stops Traditional Leaders From Giving Out Titles

by Folarin Kehinde July 21, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

The government of Zamfara State has banned traditional leaders in the state from giving out traditional titles without the approval of the government.

Matawalle in a statement by his Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment, Media and Communications, Zailani Bappa, said “All emirs, senior district heads and district heads in the state are hereby directed to officially seek permission from the state government before conferring traditional titles on anyone.

“The directive becomes necessary to check indiscriminate award and possible abuse of the traditional institution. Henceforth, no Emir, Senior District Head or District Head should appoint anybody into any traditional office without securing official permission and clearance from the state government.

“Compliance to this directive is now mandatory and failure will attract serious reprimand from the state government.”

Recall that LEADING REPORTERS had on Monday reported that the Emir of Yandoto Emirate, Alhaji Aliyu Marafa was suspended by the Governor Matawelle Bello after he conferred the title of ‘Sarkin Fulani’ on a notorious bandit leader.

Members of his bandit squad were in full attendance with their guns and motorbikes while the ceremony was ongoing

The event led to wide spread outrage from members of the public which led the governor to suspend the emir for his actions

Mr. President Nice Job On NNPC Limited Now NNPC PLC

by Folarin Kehinde July 21, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

By Ndubuisi Ekekwe, PhD, Chairman of FASMICRO Group, is the Lead Faculty in Tekedia Mini-MBA. He writes regularly in the Harvard Business Review. Email: tekedia@fasmicro.com.

Let me commend President Buhari for getting the job done on NNPC. Yes, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is now a commercial venture – a limited liability company, limited by shares – and not just an amorphous gigantic conglomerate. Welcome NNPC Limited.

Yet, there is really nothing to write since changing name, corporate formation, etc, will not change some of the underperforming elements. We still have to improve productivity and deepen innovation in the nation’s top foreign exchange earner.

Those changes must be done for us to unlock the latent opportunities within that company.

I did three internships in NNPC and enjoyed the benefits of learning under some of the finest engineers in our nation. The first time I touched a computer was in NNPC – NGC, Moscow Rd in PHC – and the first time I changed an instrumentation and control knob was in Owasa Gas flow station.

As I wrote in 2017 when I posited that Nigeria should go all the way with NNPC Plc, I want Mr. President to take this to the Nigerian Stock Exchange. Of course, I did note the challenges that would bring, but we have to go all the way: “Nigerian can get a valuation of $300 billion for NNPC Plc”.

Meanwhile, a comment from a individual stated:

“Hope this change in nomenclature will have any positive impact on the common man? We will allow them to work first, before congratulating them.

We changed NEPA to PHCN, it didn’t click, and we unbundled to DISCOs and GENCOs and the one in between, they are largely private but our energy fortunes are yet to improve.

What will turning NNPC into a liability company bring to ordinary Nigerians, or just adding extra zeroes to the pockets of those who can buy and sell shares? There is still great silence on the productivity front, until then.”

Nigerian National Grid Collapses Again

by Folarin Kehinde July 20, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Nigerian National power grid has collapsed again on Wednesday 20/07/2022.

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company confirmed that the grid collapse occurred at about 11:27 am.

“Dear customers, we regret to inform you of a system collapse on the national grid at precisely 11:27 am today, Wednesday, July 20. We are in talks with the Transmission Company of Nigeria to ascertain the cause of the collapse and a possible restoration timeline.

The collapse of the national power grid made it the sixth time this year.

The collapse is expected to, as usual, halt electricity supplies to some parts of the country.

Nigeria’s power grid had collapsed twice in March and twice again in April this year, as the power generation on the system had continued to fluctuate due to various concerns such as gas constraints, water management challenges, and gas pipeline vandalism, among others

In April, the quantum of electricity on the grid crashed from over 3,000MW on April 8, 2022, to as low as 10MW around 21.00 hours the same day.

Also, another collapse of the grid occurred on April 9, 2022, as the nation’s power system collapsed to 33MW around 01.00 hours after it had earlier posted a peak generation of 3,281.50MW at 00.00 hours the same day.

The national grid collapsed twice in March and this happened within a space of two days, a development that made the Federal Government summon a meeting of stakeholders to address the issue.

This was even as the company equally increased the ex- depot price from N148.17 to N167 per litre.

This development came after weeks of petrol scarcity resurfaced across the country as fuel retailers were adopting different price bands to force unofficial deregulation attempts.

JUST IN: Central Bank Raises Interest Rate To Fight Inflation

by Folarin Kehinde July 19, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Central Bank of Nigeria has raised the monetary policy rate which measures interest rate to 14%.

This was disclosed by the central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele after the monetary policy committee meeting at CBN headquarters in Abuja.

The Governor disclosed to reporters that the increased interest rate would help curtail rising inflation in the country.

The new interest rate comes barely two months after the apex bank raised the interest rate to 13 per cent. At its last meeting in May, the committee also raised MPR from 11.5 percent to 13 per cent over the surge in fuel and food costs.

Emefiele said the committee members voted to hike the rate by 100 basis points and retained the asymmetric corridor at +100 and -700 basis points around the MPR and liquidity ratio at 30 percent.

Corps Marshal Boboye Oyeyemi: Bowing gracefully out of FRSC

by Folarin Kehinde July 19, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

By Bisi Kazeem, Assistant Corps Marshal and Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

When he was appointed as the first internally groomed Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) by former President Goodluck Jonathan on July 23, 2014, the emergence of Dr Boboye Olayemi Oyeyemi was celebrated widely, not only among the staff of the Corps but also among stakeholders and members of the public, who were conscious of developments within the Corps. The wide jubilation that heralded his appointment was borne out of the long expectations of the people that a competent officer with full understanding of the vision and mission of the organisation got the opportunity to manage the elite Corps that had earlier earned public trust and got certified with the global certificate of standardisation, otherwise referred to as ISO 9001:2008, for sustained improvement.

Prior to his appointment, Oyeyemi, who was one of the few founding officers of the Corps, had gained wide ranging experiences spanning all the major departments and commands of the Corps, all of which he excelled in managing without blame. With his robust background in operations, motor vehicle administration, training and policy, research and statistics, which he managed with excellence, all eyes were on the Federal Government to give him the opportunity to showcase the leadership skills he had learnt over the years under successive Corps Marshals.

His emergence was, therefore, not surprising to all those interested in the growth and development of the Corps. Interestingly, he did not disappoint the people as he hit the ground running after his swearing in by the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim in the conference hall of the SGF’s office. An advocate of policy continuity, Oyeyemi had no difficulty in recognising the need to uphold and build on the policy direction taken by his predecessor, Chief Osita Chidoka, who had earlier been appointed as a minister and member of the Federal Executive Council.

He announced his management ideals during his maiden strategy session with the principal officers of the National Headquarters and Zonal Commanding Officers, when he stated that the principles of his management would be anchored on the tripod of Consultation, Reward and Punishment (CRP), an acronym for the use of carrots and sticks in managing the affairs of the Corps. As a versatile computer user, Oyeyemi not only promoted the digitisation policy of the Corps, but took it to the next level, thereby widening the scope, usage and accessibility of computers among the generality of the Corps in the last eight years that he was saddled with the responsibility of leading the organisation.

Having successfully spent his two tenures at the topmost office of the Corps and is graciously bowing out, the questions on the lips of many anxious Nigerians are, what did he do differently that he could be remembered for by the coming generations? Here, we must point out, first and foremost, that the unprecedented levels of recruitment that he secured from the Federal Government within the years has, no doubt, raised the number of qualified personnel available to carry out specialist and general duty assignments that have significantly improved the presence and visibility of the Corps across the nation’s highways. His policy of ensuring effective management of the wide network of road nationwide has led to the introduction of Corridor Commands and Station Offices, which have made the presence of the FRSC in all the nation’s 774 local governments possible for collective ownership of traffic management, as envisaged by the Road Safety Strategy initiative.

Concerned with the poor office accomodation and dilapidated nature of most of the structures occupied by the Corps on rental basis across the states, the Oyeyemi-led management vigorously pursued the policy of constructing permanent office accomodation, most of which have been commissioned across states in the six geopolitical zones of the country. This has created  opportunity for modern and permanent office structures owned by the Corps.

Towards ensuring a happier and more productive post service life for staff, the last man standing unveiled project 20,000 staff Housing Scheme to make house ownership easier for all staff of the Corps, while we brought into existence FRSC Post-Service Scheme (PSS) to help members of the Corps save for retirement before the retirement benefit/pension are paid.

Furthermore, the aggressive pursuit of the policy of fleet renewal by his management has led to the procurement of an unprecedented number of operational vehicles, tow trucks, ambulances, administration vehicles and other rescue equipment, the largest ever secured by any management in the 34 years of the Corps’ existence.

As an organisation built on the ingredients of knowledge, the FRSC management under Oyeyemi paid special attention to staff capacity development programmes through which opportunities for local and foreign trainings were offered to all cadres of staff. Further to this, various institutions of learning aimed at developing the intellectual and road traffic management expertise of the Corps were not only established, but some upgraded to make it possible for them to offer advanced knowledge and certification. To this end, the FRSC Academy, Udi, Enugu State was upgraded as a centre of excellence for the study of road safety and it was affiliated with the Federal University of Technology, Owerri for the award of post-graduate degree programmes in Transportation Management.

His management has been able to successfully negotiate and took delivery of an ultra-modern Inspectorate Training School, Owa Alero in Delta State, through the benevolence of the government and people of Delta State. In addition, he has been able to negotiate and secure the agreement of Plateau State Government to build the Road Marshal Assistant Training School in Shendam, Plateau State, where work is already at an advanced stage. And in his commitment to the career development of staff, which aligns with the policy of rewarding excellence, the yearly promotion exercise has continued to be observed in the last eight years of his management, thereby creating opportunities for the upward movement of staff, in line with available vacancies and strict adherence to the provisions of the federal character principles.

More to the above, Oyeyemi developed transformational initiatives focused on People, Processes and Technology (PPT), which is why today not only does its staff pride as the most disciplined but the Corps stands out as the best Information Technology (IT) driven organisation in Nigeria, with its robust data base and over 95 percentage digitalised administrative and operational procedures.

His administrative ingenuity that led to the deployment of FRSC personnel to Tank Farms has, to a large degree, dwindled the rate of crashes associated with articulated vehicles, particularly tankers carrying petroleum products. Through its Safe-to-Load initiative, articulated vehicle have been subjected to checks before they are allowed to load from the various depots across the country, with trained personnel of the Corps undertaking routine checks to ensure strict compliance.

Tinubu To Unveil Shettima As Running Mate on Wednesday

by Folarin Kehinde July 19, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to unveil Senator and ex Borno governor, Kashim Shettima tomorrow as his running mate.

According to a statement on Tuesday morning signed by the party’s National Organizing Secretary, Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu, the unveiling event will take place at Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja at 11:00am.

“All Members of the National Executive Committee (NEC), Members of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Members of APC Caucus in the National Assembly, Members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Presidential Aspirants at the June 2022 Special National Convention, APC State Chairmen, APC State Secretaries and APC State Organizing Secretaries, are, hereby, invited to witness this landmark Official Unveiling of our Great Party’s Vice Presidential Candidate,” Argungu said.

This is coming five days after the APC postponed the unveiling with no reason given for the shift in date. Shettima was meant to have been presented to party members at the APC national Secretariat on July 14, but an APC official told reporters the event has been moved forward.

Tinubu had revealed to news men July 10, that Shettima was the chosen one after a close door meeting, he had with President Buhari in Daura, Kastina State.

The ruling party has continued to receive lots of criticisms from concerned Nigerians, religious leaders, opposition parties and the Christians Association of Nigeria for its choice of the former Borno governor as running mate. The backlash is due to the fact that both Tinubu and Shettima are Muslims, therefore their ticket does not take into consideration the religious diversity of the country.

However, the camp of the former Lagos State governor have defended their choice, saying Shettima was the preferred choice because of his quality and not his religious identity.
