Atiku Launches 2027 Campaign in Sokoto, Pledges to End Insecurity and Cut Cost of Living

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has promised to tackle insecurity, bring back hope and ease the rising cost of living if Nigerians elect him president in 2027.

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) made the pledge on Thursday when he arrived in Sokoto State for the formal launch of his party’s presidential campaign.

Supporters turned out in large numbers to welcome him. Writing on his X handle afterwards, Atiku thanked them and described Sokoto as a historic centre of faith, scholarship and leadership.

He said ordinary Nigerians are fed up with hunger, insecurity and political promises that never materialise, and argued that the 2027 election gives the country a real chance to change direction.

“Nigerians are tired of hunger, fear, and broken promises. Today, they have a choice, a plan, and a leader ready to deliver,” he wrote.

He went on to list his priorities: securing troubled communities, opening up opportunities for young people, and making daily life more affordable for families.

“I will end the insecurity that haunts our communities, restore hope to our young people, and make Nigeria affordable again,” he said.

Atiku called the Sokoto launch the first step in what he described as a mission to rescue Nigeria, and said he was confident the ADC would win the presidential election.

“The journey to rescue Nigeria begins here. Together, we will win,” he added.
