Valentine’s Day: FG bans money bouquets, warns against currency abuse

by Folarin Kehinde February 12, 2026
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Federal Government has banned the use of banknotes to create money bouquets, towers, and decorative cakes ahead of the 2026 Valentine’s Day celebrations, warning that such practices violate Nigeria’s currency laws.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said the misuse of the naira constitutes abuse of the national currency and is punishable under the law.

The apex bank stated that spraying, arranging, or moulding banknotes into celebratory displays for gifts or events amounts to defacing and mishandling legal tender.

According to the CBN, these practices undermine the integrity and value of the naira, stressing that the currency must be treated with dignity and respect at all times.

The bank warned that individuals and businesses involved in producing or using money bouquets and similar items risk facing legal consequences, including fines and prosecution.

Authorities further advised Nigerians to adopt alternative gift options during celebrations rather than using cash in ways that damage or disrespect the nation’s currency.

The warning comes ahead of Valentine’s Day, a period when money bouquets and cash-themed gifts have become increasingly popular at parties and romantic celebrations across the country.

Valentine’s Day: “Many will sleep with Ghosts and Spirits” Mike Bamiloye raises alarm

by Folarin Kehinde February 14, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Renowned Nigerian Christian filmmaker and founder of Mount Zion Faith Ministries, Pastor Mike Bamiloye, has raised the alarm as Nigerians celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Bamiloye claimed that many young girls and ladies would be used for money rituals and fluids of men would be submitted tonight in the shrines of the evil kingdom.

In a post via his Instagram page on Friday, the filmmaker asserted that many lives will be destroyed today following the celebration of Lovers Day.

He wrote, “We will keep shouting!

“Many would sleep on the same bed tonight with ghosts and spirits from demonic kingdoms who had come to make vows and covenants with the sons and daughters of men.

“Blood would flow tonight. Blood shall be exchanged tonight on covenant beds. Fluids of men shall be submitted tonight in the shrines of the evil kingdom.

“The fortunes and destinies of many young girls and ladies would end up tonight in shrines of money rituals.

“Destinies and fortunes and meaningfulness of life shall be polluted this evening, and by tomorrow morning, many shall wake up empty and shallow and light.”

Valentine’s Day: 20 Years Imprisonment Awaits Ladies who Extort Men, Lawyer Warns

by Folarin Kehinde February 12, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

Ahead of Valentine’s Day celebration, a former publicity secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr Douglas Ogbankwa, has warned that ladies who extort men risked 20 years’ imprisonment.

Ogbankwa in an interview warned women against false representation aimed at extorting men during the celebration.

He noted that “experiences by some male folks over the years, have shown that some ladies are deliberately poised for extortion during the Valentine season, all in the name of love.”

According to him, ladies, who ignorantly carry out acts of deceit, broken promises or extortion may be held liable under the provisions of the Advanced Fee Fraud Act (419).

Ogbankwa stressed that girls, who were in the habit of collecting money in advance in the guise of transport fare to visit men on such occasions, but deliberately failed to do so, could be charged with fraud and prosecuted under the Act.

He said: “It is important to note that many Nigerians are ignorant of this; for instance, a woman who collects money from a man as transportation fare to visit him, and then fails to show up can be charged with obtaining money by false pretence.

“Such persons could be prosecuted under Section 419 of the Criminal Code of Nigeria.

“Again, where a person obtains such money intending to collect more when she arrives, such crime has now transcended to Advance Fee Fraud and liable for prosecution under the Advance Fee Fraud (Prohibition) Act.”

Ogbankwa noted that suspects could consequently be charged to court and prosecuted by either the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) or Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC).

Ogbankwa, therefore, noted that while the celebration of Valentine’s Day remained historic for certain cultures and people, its purpose should not be abused.

Accordingly, he urged all to be guided since ignorance of the law was never an excuse.

Valentine’s Day is Satanic – Mummy G.O

by Folarin Kehinde February 7, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

Controversial Nigerian evangelist, Funmilayo Adebayo, better known as Mummy GO, has faulted the celebration of Valentine’s Day across the world.

Valentine’s Day is celebrated annually on February 14. It is a special day when people show feelings of love, affection, and friendship.

It originally started as a Christian feast day honouring one or two early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine and gradually metamorphosed into a celebration of romance and love.

But in a now-viral video, Mummy GO claimed the day is not worth celebrating.

The cleric also claimed the idea of Valentine’s Day was initiated by the kingdom of darkness to destroy people.

“The story that happened that they said they are celebrating as Valentine does not deserve celebration. The story has nothing to celebrate, but the enemy just chose it because that man — Valentino or what did they call him — they knew everybody loves him because he is a good person, who helped people and showed love to everyone,” she said.

“Yet, how did he die? He died a useless, terrible death. He died of dejection if you know the story very well. Is that something that needs to be celebrated? No.

“But they purposively chose it because the kingdom of darkness needs a day dedicated for falling, destruction and how do you convince people to celebrate immorality: they use popular figures loved by others.”

The video which surfaced ahead of this year’s edition of the celebration, Mummy GO lamented that many youths now see the day as a period to indulge in sexual immorality.
