Finance Minister Wale Edun Flown to UK for Medical Treatment

by Folarin Kehinde October 15, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has reportedly travelled to the United Kingdom for medical treatment.

This development comes after the Presidency earlier announced that Edun was receiving treatment at his home in Abuja and might seek further medical attention abroad if necessary.

According to multiple sources who confirmed the development on Tuesday, the minister has now left the country. One of the sources said, “It’s true, he has left already.”

Edun was said to have departed Abuja for Lagos on Monday night via a commercial flight before boarding a British Airways flight to London later that night.

In an earlier statement, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, explained that the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, would lead the economic team in Edun’s absence, as the minister was “indisposed.”

There had been widespread rumours claiming that Edun suffered a stroke and was flown abroad for treatment, but the Presidency has since denied those reports.

Presidential aides maintained that Edun, a key member of President Bola Tinubu’s economic team, is recuperating and in good spirits.

After 30-day medical trip to the UK, Ganduje returns to Nigeria

by Folarin Kehinde August 21, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, on Wednesday, returned to Nigeria from London.

The former Kano State governor had travelled to the United Kingdom for medical treatment shortly after his controversial resignation as APC national chairman.

Confirming the development to The PUNCH, his former Chief of Staff, Mohammed Garba, said Ganduje arrived in the country in the early hours of Wednesday after spending about a month abroad.

“Yes, he is back in Nigeria today. He is full of life and has returned to his residence,” Garba stated.

He added that Ganduje departed Nigeria for London five days after stepping down from the party’s leadership to undergo medical care.

Ganduje, who became APC National Chairman in August 2023, had reportedly resigned on June 27, 2025, ostensibly over ill health.

He was subsequently inaugurated as the Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria on July 9, while former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Netanwe Yilwatda, has since replaced him as the APC National Chairman.

US govt excludes UK, Nigeria, others from visa-free entry for 2025

by Folarin Kehinde February 25, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The United States has published a list of eligible countries for its 2025 Visa Waiver Program, VWP.

The United Kingdom has been removed from the program but remains eligible under specific conditions.

The list, however, does not include African countries such as Nigeria, Ghana, or South Africa.

The VWP list remains mostly unchanged, though Romania has been added in a significant update.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Consular Affairs, the Visa Waiver Program allows most citizens of eligible countries to travel to the U.S. for tourism or business for up to 90 days without requiring a visa.

The agency stated, “Travelers must have a valid Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) approval prior to travel and meet all requirements explained below.

“If you prefer to have a visa in your passport, you may still apply for a visitor visa.”

The 2025 Visa Waiver Program has also introduced policy updates on permit eligibility, revisions to the list of participating countries, and new travel policies.

UK set to deport Nigerian pastor, Tobi Adegboyega over alleged £1.87m fraud

by Folarin Kehinde December 4, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

A Nigerian pastor whose church was shut down over an alleged £1.87 million fraud has lost his fight against deportation, despite claiming it would breach his human rights.

An immigration tribunal has ruled that Tobi Adegboyega, 44, the cousin of John Boyega, the Star Wars actor, should be deported back to his native Nigeria after investigations, including by The Telegraph, exposed misuse of funds by his church.

Mr Adegboyega was head of SPAC Nation, a controversial church shut down after failing to properly account for more than £1.87 million of outgoings and operating with a lack of transparency.

He claimed deportation would breach his right under the European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR) to a family life – having married a British woman. He also said the attempt to remove him by the Home Office failed to take account of his community work with SPAC.

Describing a “charismatic” community leader of a large, well-organised church, his legal team claimed that he had “intervened in the lives of many hundreds of young people, predominantly from the black communities in London, to lead them away from trouble”.

He claimed his work had been “lauded” by politicians including Boris Johnson and senior figures within the Metropolitan Police, although no testimony by them was submitted to the court. He said that without his personal presence in London, projects that he had masterminded would fall apart or reduce in size.

However, the tribunal was told the Home Office contended “all is not as it seems”.

“Various manifestations of [Mr Adegboyega’s] church have been closed down, by either the Charity Commission or the High Court, because of concerns over its finances and lack of transparency,” according to the judgment.

Selling their own blood’
“Former members of the church have alleged that it is a cult, in which impoverished young people are encouraged to do anything they can to donate money, including taking out large loans, committing benefit fraud and even selling their own blood.

“It is alleged that the church leadership lead lavish lifestyles and there have, it is said, been instances of abuse. The [Home Office’s] case before us was that all of this needs to be taken into account when evaluating whether [Mr Adegboyega] is in fact of real value to the UK.”

Self Help Africa, UK Govt leverages on Youth inclusion for Hand Washing Hygiene in Nigeria

by Folarin Kehinde October 27, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

In a deliberate effort to enhance hand washing with soap and water, the government of the United Kingdom in partnership with Self Help Africa (SHA), Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Sports Development and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has leveraged on youth inclusion to drive hand hygiene in Nigeria.

The Country Director of Self Help Africa (SHA) Joy Aderele while speaking during the flag off of the campaign in Abuja said that SHA will be focusing on the inclusion of Nigeria’s youth, particularly corp members in driving hand hygiene awareness across grassroots communities, with the goal to empower young people to become champions of hand hygiene in their communities, in tandem with the National Youth WASH Strategy.

“Nigeria has one of the largest youth populations in the world, with 63% of the population under the age of 25. This demographic, while vulnerable to hygiene-related problems, represents a significant opportunity as advocates for change. This is why we will be engaging Nigerian youths through the NYSC scheme to inspire behaviour change among Nigerians and reinforce the importance of proper hygiene in public health,” .

Aderele said research has shown that 80 percent of germs are transmitted by unclean hands touching contaminated surfaces, which makes hand hygiene essential in preventing communicable diseases, saying in Nigeria, the significance of hand hygiene is even more important due to high incidences of hygiene-related diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, and respiratory infections.

She said that with less than one-third of Nigerians demonstrating proper handwashing techniques with soap according to the 2021 WASHNORM report, hand washing practices still need to improve.

Adele noted that the campaign was launched digitally on 15 October through an Instagram Live session with Aproko Doctor (Dr. Chinonso Egemba), a popular Nigerian health influencer, and Shadrack Shaaperaga Guusu, Head of WASH Programmes at SHA, has already reached thousands of young Nigerians.

Adele explained that the campaign is a month -long series of engagement aimed at raising awareness about the importance of hand hygiene under the theme of the 2024 Global Hand Washing Day “why are clean hands still important”.

Also speaking, the Health Adviser at Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) Dr Chidera Chukwu said the UK government is supporting the initiative following the 2021 Water, Sanitation and Hygiene National Outcome Routine Mapping WASHNORM survey which indicates that despite 99% of Nigerians knowing when to wash their hands only 8% practice proper hand hygiene.

He said the campaign is a call on the Nigerian youths , most especially members of corp members to become hygiene champions and advocate for sustainable health practices.

He stressed that the campaign aligns with FCDO’s goal of working closely with the Nigerian government and partners to build stronger and resilient systems through youth leadership and community involvement, saying they are excited to see how the Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Systems for Health Programme will drive the operationalisation of the Nation Youth Strategy.”

The Director Water Supply, Resources Federal Ministry of Water Resources Mr Babarinde Olusegun commended SHA for the effort in scaling up hand washing practices to the grass root.

He said the youth WASH program was launched in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Sports Development,as well as Water Resources and implemented by the NYSC, saying the ministry is focused on improving WASH infrastructures and policy implementation.

50 people caught trying to enter Ireland from UK without visas over four days

by Folarin Kehinde May 28, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

Irish police detected 50 people attempting to enter Ireland from the UK illegally last week.

The Gardaí said they were refused leave to land and were returned to the UK across four days.

The force said 107 people had been detected, without the correct visas or identity papers, across 21 days of action since the start of October last year.

Four additional days of action took place in the week commencing May 20, when a further 50 people were detected without the correct paperwork.

It comes after Ireland claimed up to 90 per cent of asylum seekers arriving in Dublin have crossed the open border with Northern Ireland because they fear the Rwanda plan.

Ireland rejected an offer by Rishi Sunak to join the scheme and insisted that Rishi Sunak uphold an agreement to take back migrants, which the Prime Minister insists is not legally binding.

“During these operations, persons entering Ireland illegally and were refused leave to land (RLTL) and returned to the UK by ferry from Dublin Port to Holyhead or returned to Belfast, as appropriate depending on the individual circumstances,” Gardaí said.

In a statement, they added that officers carry out immigration checks along the border on a regular basis to detect breaches of immigration legislation and abuses of the Common Travel Area (CTA).

These include checkpoints on roads and checks on the train line through Louth, close to the border with Northern Ireland.

Gardaí said they have “significant operational co-operation with the UK Border Force, UK policing services and the Police Service of Northern Ireland, supported organisationally by the Cross Border Joint Action Task Force”.

“Our Immigration officers work in close collaboration with personnel operating buses and trains in the area,” they added.

“A human rights-based approach is adopted in relation to every individual stopped. Immigration officers will clearly identify themselves to all passengers on buses or trains.

“All Gardaí members have completed training in the Gardaí Code of Ethics and the Gardaí Decision Making Model. All checks carried out are lawful, objective and respectful.”

Academic Corruption: Schools Teach Kids As Young As 9 To ‘Masturbate’ For Homework, Have Anal Sex –Report

by Leading Reporters June 19, 2023
written by Leading Reporters

A report by Daily Mail said many teachers are ‘indoctrinating’ children with scientifically false claims about biological sex, presenting gender as fluid and furthering a narrative that people can be born in the wrong body.

In UK schools, children are being taught about anal sex and orgasms before they have reached puberty and set ‘masturbation’ as homework, as revealed by secretive lesson plans.

A report by Daily Mail said many teachers are ‘indoctrinating’ children with scientifically false claims about biological sex, presenting gender as fluid and furthering a narrative that people can be born in the wrong body.

This comes as the National Health Service is facing a mass legal action from 1,000 families who claim their children were rushed into taking life-changing puberty blockers’ by the Tavistock Centre.

MailOnline said it found graphic teaching material — including a sex manual for pre-teens — being taught to children in classes around the UK.

This comes after a concerned mother was denied the right to see the content of the lessons being taught to her 15-year-old daughter in her Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) classes, which became compulsory three years ago.

Despite a judge refusing Clare Page the right to see the material, MailOnline can reveal that a wealth of questionable teaching resources is already available online.

Colouring books, word searches and cartoon drawings have also been given to young girls and boys by ‘activist teachers’ in their ‘overarching mission to sexualise children in the name of inclusion’.

Since September 2020, Relationships Education has been compulsory in primary schools and RSE mandatory in secondary schools. The change left many teaching staff seeking guidance.

The void was filled by charities — some harbouring unconventional views on biological sex and sharing material on their websites that reference underage sex.

MailOnline noted that some children are taught that from birth until the age of one, babies can ‘experience pleasurable sensations’ by touching their genitals.

Other things being taught to children include ways for 12-year-old girls to orgasm while masturbating, including pinching or stroking the clitoris.

According to the report, children are also given ‘masturbation’ homework from a pre-compulsory RSE resource and told that girls as young as 12 can find sexual pleasure from anal, vaginal and oral sex.

The report also noted that young schoolchildren are taught that it’s normal to want to masturbate during and even before they hit puberty and told that it’s normal for prepubescent children to be sexually attracted to anyone.

They are also told that gender is different from sex but is a much more intrinsic part of who a person is and taught that people can change their sex from being a man to being a woman.

They are taught that some ‘non-binary’ humans are neither men nor women and that men with the male Y chromosome can actually be women, which goes against the teachings in biology.

An ‘award-winning’ teaching pack for children as young as nine who have learning disabilities created before RSE was made mandatory was similarly graphic. One of the lesson plans suggested teachers ‘show the group pictures of male and female masturbation’ and ‘simulate anatomically correct dolls masturbating’

In the lesson plan for children as young as nine, the images are not blurred and show a boy and a girl masturbating. The boy is shown as he is in the middle of ejaculating while the naked girl is seen touching herself while closing her eyes and opening her mouth.

A colouring book aimed at children as young as five invited users to colour in Zoë, who is ‘non-binary’, which according to the book means ‘they are neither a boy or a girl’.

A colouring book aimed at children as young as five invited users to colour in Zoë, who is ‘non-binary’, which according to the book means ‘they are neither a boy or a girl’.

Another lesson resource, a book called Great Relationships and Sex Education that is ‘extremely popular with RSE educators’, points children aged 11 to 13 to a ‘hands on guide’ to masturbation that suggests it can be ‘highly pleasurable’ to touch your anus, genitals and nipples

The Sex Education Forum (SEF), Coram Life Education and Brook are some of the leading charities that create lesson plans for schools, hold PSHE workshops and point teachers towards related educational material.

Coram Life Education supports 50,000 teachers. Their PSHE education reaches more than 600,000 pupils each year.

Meanwhile, SEF states on its own website that it ‘has a long history of successfully influencing policy’.

Some teachers and educators believe RSE and Relationships Education are necessary subjects for children to learn.

Danielle Baron was a teacher and assistant head for 10 years and has run her own education and coaching company for eight years.

She said: ‘It is of utmost importance to educate children about navigating relationships, as they are particularly vulnerable, and education and knowledge empowers them to recognise warning signs.

‘By providing children with this education and support, we can help them navigate relationships safely and empower them to protect themselves against potential abuse.’

A trainee teacher at a multi-academy trust in southeast London who teaches RSE three times a week in 20 minute session said it was ‘vital’ for it to be compulsory for children to learn about sex and relationships.

He said: ‘Schools have a role outside of family and religious groups to teach it, informed by science. The kids need to know it.

‘Teaching about gender is important.

‘Many schools think [RSE is] secondary. Teachers want resources given to them. The issue is that the resources are not good enough.

‘Maybe we need a firm curriculum. If it’s left up to private groups then potentially different schools give different RSE.’

Yet others disagree. Ray Freeman is the director of the National Council of Integrative Psychotherapists.

He told MailOnline: ‘We need to let children be children. What I fear is more of a political movement, where we have classes of girls saying they are a different sex.

‘Sex is biological. Gender is socially constructed. The aggressive movement is mixing the two.

‘It’s dangerous. Has the world gone mad?

‘I think it is psychologically damaging and it can be physically damaging for a young person to be told they are or can be the opposite sex.

‘We have a duty to protect our children. How can we if you don’t know what they are being taught?’

The Family Education Trust’s Lucy Marsh told MailOnline ‘activist teachers’ were on a path to rip children from their families.

She said: ‘It’s an overarching mission to sexualise children in the name of inclusion.

‘If you normalise underage sex to children, it’s grooming and exposing them to sexual abuse.

‘It’s a mission to sexualise children and people don’t understand there’s a huge safeguarding risk in that. It is child indoctrination.

‘When you think of cults, the first thing they do is separate people from families.

‘They are trying to put a distance between children and their families.’

Mrs Marsh has had personal experience of her child being taught shocking sexual material.

She said: ‘My daughter came home and asked if she was asexual. I said, ”Well I hope you are, because you’re 11!”

‘Children come home and become very upset about it.

‘We need a full public inquiry into the Department of Education. A lot of these providers are sanctioning underage sex.

‘We would like [the government] to press pause on RSE lessons until this investigation is over.’

Vagina Matters is the top free teaching resource on sexual health charity Brook’s website. The book which is aimed at 12 to 14-year-olds girls covers sex, masturbation and orgasms and includes cartoons of a woman’s naked breasts, buttocks and vagina.

The guide, for 12 to 14-year-old girls, says: ‘You can be sexually attracted to anyone.’ It also listed ways to find ‘sexual pleasure’ that included ‘anal sex’ and ‘oral sex’.

Under an ‘advice’ heading it added: ‘You can use your fingers to play with your clitoris – stroke it, massage it, rub it, pinch or squeeze it lightly’.

Meanwhile, political activist Laurence Fox told MailOnline: ‘Disgusting ideologues are trying to put children down an irreversible path of manipulation.

‘The fact they want to hide what they are doing is disgusting. It should alarm every parent.

‘This is entirely anti-scientific dribble. It’s total warfare on the family in the name of inclusion and kindness.’

ASUU STRIKE: “The Problem With The Nigerian University System”.

by Folarin Kehinde August 8, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

I have been doing a lot of research on why we continually have problems with university education in Nigeria.

Chief of our problem is funding. Just like every other system in Nigeria, over-dependence on the govt for everything is killing our university education. I am yet to see any country in d world with a working university system that runs universities the way we run ours in Nigeria.

Universities in the United Kingdom and their yearly revenue:

Oxford          – £2.5 b

Cambridge   – £2.2 b

UCL               – £1.5 b

Edinburgh    – £1.1 b

Manchester – £1.0 b

Imperial        – £1.0 b

King’s CL      – £901m

Leeds           – £791m

These are the total revenue/income of the top Universities in Britain per year.

Guess what, every dime u see above here is generated by these Unies on their own through income from student fees, govt grants & research grants, as well as generating their own income through charitable fundraising, investments & business activities such as ‘spin-out companies.

Meanwhile, only about a quarter of their income comes from UK student fees. The rest comes from higher fees paid by international students, charitable donations, and investments that Universities make.

I am going somewhere. Let’s break it down.

What’s govt grant? Govt grants make up about 30.6% of total revenue for most UK universities. Students’ fees is about 29.4%. Self-generated income is 20.4% & research grants about 19.6%. It varies with very little margin from University to university.

Therefore, total revenue from non-governmental grants is 69.4% while grants from the government is merely 30.6%. Therefore, in a country that wants to maximize its university educational system, the government’s contribution cannot be more than 35% at most.

We are in trouble with our university education system in Nigeria because we make universities totally dependent on the government for its revenue and running costs. That’s an aberration!

We need a total disruption of our university education system.

What we have always lacked is a leader with the political will to take tough decisions devoid of political correctness. We need to totally reform our university system & the recruitment process of Vice Chancellors.

We have VCs of public Universities behaving like State governors

Lame duck leaders, sitting down & expecting monthly draw down from the Federal government to pay salaries & enjoy the largesse of office and then wait for next month’s drawdown. Our system of administration does not excite nor tax the ingenuity of any man. It makes people lazy.

The University system has become an extension of our politics & ASUU is the political arm. It would take a total reform to unleash the dragon & let Professors prove their mettle as eggheads by leading from the front on how they can generate revenue for the running of our universities.

Recruitment of VCs must take the pattern of recruitment for a multinational where revenue targets are set and the potential candidates must be able to prove how they would meet the revenue targets for their university or go bankrupt.

Negotiation with ASUU is not what we need. They’ve been negotiating for over 30 years and nothing had come out of all the negotiations. The reason is that the federal government can never meet up with the kind of money to really cater to all the Universities.

Universities are not run that way. Govt must hand of 60% of their involvement with university education, or give a moratorium of a 10-year withdrawal plan from university funding. Reduce funding every 2 years, and recruit VCs that are forward looking and ready to work to get grants and endowment for his/her university. Let our public universities be tuition-paying universities, strengthen professional certification for people with skill, and make it recognizable like ICAN does with accounting.

This way people can be proud of their professionalism without a university degree, and be sure they can get a well-paying job.

That way only people who really needed to attend a university would do so. Presently, my boss at work here in the UK has no university degree, but he’s an experienced hand with a deep knowledge of his industry. He consults for government on reforms in the sector and an authority in his field. Under him, we have people with multiple degrees but we all defer to him because he knows his onions.

Presently, a lot of Nigerians with master’s degree are abandoning their degree certificates and getting certification in Project Management, Agile, Business Analysis, and getting into tech jobs that pay well. Nobody cares about what they studied at the University.

What employers are looking and asking for is your certification in technology-related field and your experience in that field to get employment.

I sincerely believe we can revamp this system because we have more to gain if we do or more to lose if we don’t.

Europe war: Interpol decides on Russia’s membership

by Leading Reporters March 4, 2022
written by Leading Reporters
Several western countries demanded Russia’s suspension from the international police body

Interpol has rejected calls from several Western countries to suspend Russia from its ranks over the conflict in Ukraine, the world police organization said on Thursday. Canada, Poland, and the UK were among those demanding the move.

Just a few hours earlier, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Ottawa had joined the chorus calling for Russia’s suspension, arguing that “international law enforcement cooperation depends on a collective commitment to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and mutual respect between Interpol members.”

Canada, Poland, and the UK have all imposed a wide array of economic, political and other measures against Russia, accusing Moscow of aggression against Ukraine.

Russia sent troops into Ukraine last week, saying the government in Kiev was committing “genocide” in the Donbass region and needed to be demilitarized and “denazified.”

Interpol, which stands for the International Criminal Police Organization, has 195 member countries and maintains 19 police databases of crimes and criminals, including names and fingerprints, to facilitate international law enforcement cooperation. RT.com
