BREAKING: Tinubu intervenes in Rivers Political Crisis, Advises Governor Fubara

by Folarin Kehinde March 11, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

President Bola Tinubu has addressed the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, revealing his efforts to restore peace both privately and publicly.

Speaking to leaders of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) on Tuesday in the presidential villa in Abuja, Tinubu said he had foreseen the current situation and urged them to return home and work for peace while upholding the rule of law.

He advised Governor Siminalayi Fubara to implement the recommendations given to him and respect the rule of law, noting that the Supreme Court remains the highest authority in the country. He also called on Niger Delta leaders to support him in achieving this goal.

The president’s remarks came after the Supreme Court upheld Martins Amaewhule as the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

In its ruling delivered on February 28, the Supreme Court ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Accountant General of the Federation, and other financial institutions to withhold funds from the Rivers State government. The court accused the government of “flagrant disobedience” to judicial orders and stated that compliance with the law was necessary before funds could be released.

The decision marked a political setback for Governor Fubara, as the five-member panel of justices unanimously dismissed his cross-appeal challenging the legitimacy of the House of Assembly under Speaker Martins Amaewhule. The ruling affirmed the authority of the 27 lawmakers loyal to former Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Additionally, the Supreme Court nullified the recent local government elections in Rivers State, declaring them invalid due to violations of the Electoral Act.

2027: Tinubu’s Second-Term Campaign Kicks Off In North

by Folarin Kehinde March 10, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have begun campaigning for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Although the party and the president have not officially launched the campaign, top APC figures, including National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume, have openly supported Tinubu’s bid for a second term.

Speaking at the APC headquarters in Abuja while addressing support groups, Ganduje advised politicians from the North planning to run for president in 2027 to wait until 2031. He made it clear that Tinubu should be allowed to complete two terms.

Similarly, during a TVC interview, Akume urged former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Atiku Abubakar, along with other northern politicians, to step aside in 2027.

Beyond statements from political leaders, early campaign activities have been spotted in Kaduna, Kebbi, and Kwara states, with billboards promoting Tinubu’s re-election also appearing in parts of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The emergence of these early campaigns has sparked controversy, with opposition parties and political analysts arguing that it violates the Electoral Act and the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

‘In 2027 we’ll see who is relevant and who is not’, El-Rufai boasts

by Folarin Kehinde February 25, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

A former governor of Kaduna State has slammed those claiming that he has become politically irrelevant ahead of the 2027 election.

Speaking on an Arise Television’s interview, the former Federal Capital Territory Minister, said he has no business discussing about the forthcoming election at the moment.

He said, “Those that say I am relevant or not relevant in Kaduna, I don’t comment on that. Let us wait. In 2027 we will see who is relevant and who is not.”

Further addressing the ongoing investigation of his administration by the Kaduna State government, El-Rufai berated the lawmakers of the House of Assembly for failing to invite him for questioning.

He said the lawmakers breached the principles of fair hearing for not inviting him to address some of the allegations raised on the missing N423 billion in his state.

“I read the report of the state House of Assembly where they said that N423 billion was siphoned. There is nowhere in the report where they tabulated that N423billion. Money doesn’t disappear these days.

“The state assembly recommended that I should be investigated by the ICPC and the EFCC. I told my guys to calm down. We responded and said that this is nonsense. Kaduna State earned about N900 billion in the eight years I was in office. Now N423billion disappeared. I will like to see where it is,” El-Rufai stated.

JUST IN: Tinubu Needed to Borrow, Buy New Presidential Jet Worth N150 billion – Presidency

by Folarin Kehinde February 11, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Presidency has justified President Bola Tinubu’s decision to purchase a new presidential jet, worth around N150 billion, despite public outcry and widespread poverty.

Aside from the purchase of a new presidential jet, the government have been criticised for continuing in the habit of borrowing despite improved income.

According to Daniel Bwala, the President’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, the new jet is necessary for the president’s global travels.

The government had last year unveiled a new Airbus A330 purchased for the President. The new jet, it was revealed, replaced the 19-year-old Boeing B737-700(BBJ) bought during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Asked for the justification of the purchase in Arise Television’s The Morning Show program on Tuesday, Bwala explained that the previous jet had frequent problems.

He said, “As for the purchase of the presidential jet, it’s justifiable because for the president to travel around the world, he would need a better jet.

“I understand that when Buhari was in power, occasionally his jet had problems that needed to be fixed.

“And with respect to appointment, you appoint to meet a purpose, if there is a need to appoint people you will appoint, where the trouble will come is when you appoint people and they are not effective.”

The presidential spokesman also addressed concerns about the administration’s borrowing policy. Bwala stated that borrowing is justified when funds are used for infrastructural development. He noted that Nigeria’s limited resources require borrowing to meet the government’s mandate.

His words, “When I made the decision to support the president, I decided to pay attention to his policies and doing research. In doing so I decided to look at where there failure, I tried to know why.

“For example, there was a time we had food inflation and I tried to look at what actually is the cause of the food inflation and I realized there was natural disaster in Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa, while we have insecurity in the Northwest.

“The research is to find reason for whatever is the policy and where there is a misinterpretation of the policy, we will come out and give our perspective. Government is a work in progress, there is nothing magical about what I said before and what I’m saying now .

“As opposition, I opposed the government and now I speak for the government.

“The government borrows and there is a justification for borrowing. Before now, I never cared about whatever is the justification but now I realize that for the government to be able to carryout it’s mandate for the people with limited resources, it needs to borrow.

“I will give you an example, there is a research by economics that only infrastructure alone, Nigeria needs to spend between 30 to 100 billion dollars annually in other to meet up with the deficit. Or in proper perspective, over a period of 30 years, Nigeria must spend between two to three trillion dollars.

“The budget of Nigeria is less than 35 trillion dollars, so definitely you see the need to borrow, when you borrow what do you do with it is what matters. The government borrow for infrastructure and intervention in the areas where it affects Nigerian people, so there is a justification for borrowing.”
