written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina, 39, as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second term in office ends on July 31, 2026.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, Aina is a renowned academic and systems expert with vast experience in digital infrastructure, national examination systems, and public-sector reforms.

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, as well as a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

The presidency noted that Aina has more than 15 years of professional experience spanning technology, policy development, and institutional transformation. He has advised both federal and state governments on digital transition, systems design, and operational reforms.

Professor Aina has also worked as a consultant for major examination bodies, including NECO and NABTEB, where he provided expertise in ICT systems, examination security, and digital process optimisation.

At the age of 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering and is now set to become the youngest Registrar in JAMB’s history.
