Dele Farotimi Reaffirms Support for Peter Obi Ahead of 2027 Presidential Election

by Nelson Ugwuagbo May 5, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

Human rights lawyer and former spokesperson of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, Dele Farotimi, has restated his support for Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Farotimi, who was a vocal supporter of the former Anambra State governor during the 2023 polls, said he remains committed to backing Obi if he decides to contest again.

“If elections where our votes will count were held today, I would vote for Peter Gregory Obi, unless someone else comes into the race that I believe can do better,” he said.

He added that if the candidate lineup remains unchanged from the last election, Obi would remain his preferred choice.

“I hope he will be a little bolder with his policy platforms, but frankly speaking, in terms of capacity and integrity, there’s nobody else I will be supporting,” Farotimi stated.

He, however, noted that his support could change if Obi aligns with individuals he finds objectionable.

“Something drastic has to happen for me to decide I’m not supporting Peter Obi. He might team up with some objectionable persons that I cannot stomach, and that’s a real possibility. However, outside of that, there’s nobody else.”

Farotimi also expressed concern about the current state of Nigeria’s electoral process, saying discussions about future elections might be premature.

“I actually think our discussions of elections today are a disservice to ourselves because we really cannot speak in terms of an election in our current circumstances,” he said.

Farotimi attributed his continued support for Obi to a desire to see meaningful change in Nigeria’s leadership and governance.

Democracy has strengthened, not collapsed, Presidency warns Peter Obi over divisive comment

by Folarin Kehinde March 26, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Presidency has warned the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last election, Peter Obi, to watch his comments, saying that he should restrain himself from playing to the gallery.

Reacting to a statement credited to Mr Peter Obi that democracy has collapse in Nigeria, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy in a post on his verified X handle said democracy has strengthened in the last 26 years in the country.

Onanuga said, “I listened multiple times to former Governor Peter Obi’s statement where he claimed that democracy has collapsed in Nigeria. His hyperbolic remarks, suited for headlines, have been made without deep reflection and lack a solid logical foundation.

“How can a democracy that has strengthened over the past 26 years be said to have collapsed?” adding that “Only a discontented and disgruntled Peter, who benefits from the very free speech democracy provides, could perceive such a democratic downfall through his lens.”

Onanuga said “If democracy had indeed collapsed, as Peter claims, and we were living under a regime antithetical to democratic principles, he would not have been able to make his comments on Monday at Emeka Ihedioha’s colloquium. I will urge him to watch what he says and restrain himself from playing to the gallery.”

by Folarin Kehinde February 25, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

In preparation for the 2027 general elections, the leadership of the Obidient Movement on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, unveiled a new logo.

A statement issued by Tanko Yunusa, the National Coordinator, Obidient Movement said that the new logo embodies the essence of the Obidient family and their values.

Yunusa said at the heart of the emblem is the image of the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi who he described as a leader with a life integrity, humility and tireless service.

According to him, Obi’s service to the Obidient family and the people of Nigeria has inspired a movement rooted in accountability, competence, and compassion.

He said, “His face on this logo is more than a reflection of an individual, it represents the collective hope of millions who believe that governance should serve the people, not the privileged few.

“This logo is a bold declaration of our commitment to justice, equity, and the pursuit of a better Nigeria a nation where merit prevails over mediocrity, where every citizen’s voice matters, and where leadership is anchored in transparency and public good.

“As we unveil this symbol, we reaffirm that the Obidient Movement is not just about one man it is about all of us who refuse to accept the status quo. It is about a new generation rising to demand better, work harder, and dream bigger,” Yunusa noted.

He also said that the new logo would serve as a constant reminder to members of the Obidient Movement that their mission which is beyond politics is a moral call to build a country that works for all.

“Together, we will continue to walk in truth, serve with humility, and remain steadfast in our pursuit of a Nigeria that upholds dignity, fairness, and progress for all. We are Obidient. We are resilient. And together, a new Nigeria is possible,” he said.

JUST IN: Be Prepared for Libya Rematch – Peter Obi Tells Super Eagles

by Folarin Kehinde October 17, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has called on the Super Eagles to gear up for a rematch against Libya, following the team’s harrowing experience at a Libyan airport last Sunday.

The Nigerian players and officials were stranded for hours, denied food and internet access, ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier match against Libya’s Mediterranean Knights.

In a statement on his X handle, Obi expressed sympathy for the team’s ordeal and commended their patriotism and patience in the face of unfair treatment.

He encouraged the players not to let the experience dampen their spirits, but rather recharge their determination to win the match and qualify for the Morocco 2025 AFCON.

The statement reads: Like every other patriotic Nigerian, I sincerely sympathize with our dear Super Eagles over their ordeal in Libya on their way to play the Morocco 2025 AFCON Qualifier return leg match, which was later delisted by CAF following the players’ decision not to play the match.

The neglect and abandonment they and their officials suffered at a remote Libyan airport is highly regrettable and justifies their alternative decision of returning home.

While we await the outcome of an investigation ordered by CAF, I wish to use this opportunity to commend the players for their patriotism, patience, and forbearance in the face of the unfair treatment by our Libyan brothers.

I appeal to them not to allow this sad experience dampen their zeal or break their spirit.

On the other hand, it should recharge their determination to fight to win the match whenever it takes place, to qualify for the Morocco 2025 AFCON, and, to win the championship.

In times like this, when Nigerians are left dejected by the sorry state of affairs in the country, every victory by the Super Eagles would not only serve to unite the country but also give Nigerians something to celebrate.

The sad experience of our national team in Libya should encourage all of us to work hard to bring more respect and dignity to our nation.

With the right leadership in place, Nigeria surely will rise again. Indeed, a new Nigeria is POssible.

I’m Ready To Be Vice President – Peter Obi Declares, Gives Conditions

by Folarin Kehinde September 13, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has said he is open to being Nigeria’s Vice President in the future.

The former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, has however set some conditions to be met before taking such a decision.

He made the disclosure in a recent interview on News Central TV which was aired on YouTube.

Peter Obi explained that his main goal is to help Nigeria move forward. He believes that for the next general election in 2027, the country needs strong leadership to bring positive change.

When asked if he would accept the role of Vice President, Obi said: “Quite frankly, for me, I’m not desperate to be Nigeria’s president. I am desperate to see Nigeria work. If I see people who can do the work better, I will (consider being Vice President).

“I even have people who say I should not come out in 2027 and I said to them, offer yourself. And we will not put everybody on a scale.”

Despite being open to working with others, Peter Obi made it clear that he has no plans to leave the Labour Party.

He said, “Yes, I would be here (at Labour Party), and if anybody is coming for us to negotiate or to come together, he must tell me what his purposes are.

“I will not join anybody for state capture or for winning the election. I want anybody to tell me how are we going to ensure that no child is left behind, how are we going to put those millions of out-of-school children back in school.”

In the 2023 presidential election, Obi came in third place with over 6 million votes, which accounted for about 25.4% of the total votes cast. The election was won by Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received nearly 8.8 million votes (37.6%). Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came second with about 7 million votes (29.9%).

Kenneth Okonkwo demands Tinubu, Atiku, Obi withdraw from 2027 race

by Folarin Kehinde September 4, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

Kenneth Okonkwo, a former spokesman for the Labour Party presidential campaign council, has called for President Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi to withdraw from the 2027 elections.

In a recent interview with Arise TV, Okonkwo expressed frustration over the current leaders’ failure to fulfil their promises and unite the opposition.

Okonkwo criticised the inability of the opposition to form effective alliances, which he believes resulted in missed opportunities to secure key positions in the House of Representatives.

He argued, “The ruling party has failed, and the opposition has failed. In the House of Representatives, you have more opposition members than the ruling class.”

He further emphasised the need for new political faces, stating, “I completely agree with you that we need new faces, 100%, and that was why I have said that Atiku, Peter Obi, and Tinubu should step aside.”

Okonkwo’s comments reflect a growing sentiment among Nigerians for change and effective leadership as the country approaches the 2027 elections.

Lagos Court Blocks Labour Party #1Million March At Lekki Toll Gate

by Folarin Kehinde September 29, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

A Federal High Court in Lagos State has barred the labour from converging at the Lekki toll gate for the #obidatti23 one million march.

Justice Daniel Osiagor in his ruling stated that the Labour Party supporters are not to converge at the Lekki toll gate, but can pass the area to access Falome Bridge and other locations.

He also tasked the Inspector General of Police to ensure compliance of the order given.

Specifically, the court held that while the rally cannot stop at the Lekki toll gate, it can pass through the venue to access Falomo Bridge and other venues at which the rally plans to meet.

The court made these orders while ruling on a motion for injunction brought by 10 plaintiffs, who are asking the court to, among others, restrain the LP, its presidential candidate Peter Obi, his vice Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, one Julius Abure and their loyalists from holding the rally.

However, a preliminary objection filed by the defendants seeking to stop the court from hearing the motion on the grounds that it lacked jurisdiction could not been entertained as all parties to the suit had not been served.

The court adjourned hearing of the substantive suit to November 4, 2022.
