The Senior Pastor of Family Worship Centre, Sarah Omakwu, has appealed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, not to allocate the Jabi Lake Recreation Area for private development.
Omakwu made the appeal in a video shared on her Instagram page on Sunday, where she was seen kneeling on the pulpit while addressing the minister.
In her remarks, she said she could not confront the minister directly but chose to make a heartfelt plea, describing herself as a mother concerned about the welfare of residents.
She emphasised that the Jabi Lake recreation area serves as a vital public space where people exercise, socialise, conduct small businesses, and host events, including weddings and recreational activities.
Omakwu urged the minister to preserve the area for public use, warning against allocating it to private interests.
She also referenced previous developments in Abuja, noting that public access to Aso Rock had become increasingly restricted over time.
The cleric called on the FCT administration to protect the Jabi Lake area and maintain it as an open space accessible to all residents.
