BREAKING: Tinubu’s minister resigns after certificate forgery allegation

by Folarin Kehinde October 7, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, has resigned from office following allegations of certificate forgery leveled against him.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted the minister’s resignation, according to a statement released on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Onanuga said, “President Tinubu accepted the resignation of Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, following some allegations against him.”

He explained that Nnaji, who was appointed in August 2023, tendered his resignation in a letter to the President, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve the country.

The former minister reportedly attributed his decision to sustained political attacks and blackmail by his opponents.

“President Tinubu thanked him for his service and wished him success in his future endeavours,” Onanuga added.

Democracy has strengthened, not collapsed, Presidency warns Peter Obi over divisive comment

by Folarin Kehinde March 26, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Presidency has warned the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last election, Peter Obi, to watch his comments, saying that he should restrain himself from playing to the gallery.

Reacting to a statement credited to Mr Peter Obi that democracy has collapse in Nigeria, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy in a post on his verified X handle said democracy has strengthened in the last 26 years in the country.

Onanuga said, “I listened multiple times to former Governor Peter Obi’s statement where he claimed that democracy has collapsed in Nigeria. His hyperbolic remarks, suited for headlines, have been made without deep reflection and lack a solid logical foundation.

“How can a democracy that has strengthened over the past 26 years be said to have collapsed?” adding that “Only a discontented and disgruntled Peter, who benefits from the very free speech democracy provides, could perceive such a democratic downfall through his lens.”

Onanuga said “If democracy had indeed collapsed, as Peter claims, and we were living under a regime antithetical to democratic principles, he would not have been able to make his comments on Monday at Emeka Ihedioha’s colloquium. I will urge him to watch what he says and restrain himself from playing to the gallery.”

Tinubu names Onanuga, Bwala, Dare joint spokespersons

by Folarin Kehinde November 20, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

President Bola Tinubu has reassigned the roles of two recently appointed officials in the State House media and communications team to improve the efficiency of the government’s communication operations.

In the new reassignment of roles, three Special Advisers are to serve as joint spokespersons for the Bola Tinubu-led administration.

The Special Advisers includes Bayo Onanuga, Sunday Dare and Daniel Bwala.

As part of the reorganization, Sunday Dare, formerly the Special Adviser on Public Communication and National Orientation, has been appointed as the Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications. Meanwhile, Daniel Bwala, who previously served as the spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s Presidential Campaign Council, has been named the Special Adviser on Policy Communication.

This was contained in a statement by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Monday, November 19.

The statement reads: “President Bola Tinubu has re-designated the positions of two recently appointed officials in the State House media and communications team to enhance efficiency within the government’s communication machinery.

“The restructuring is as follows: Mr Sunday Dare – hitherto Special Adviser on Public Communication and National Orientation is now Special Adviser, Media and Public Communications.

“Mr Daniel Bwala – announced last week as Special Adviser, Media and Public Communication, is now Special Adviser, Policy Communication.

“These appointments, along with the existing role of Special Adviser, Information and Strategy, underscore that there is no single individual spokesperson for the Presidency.

“Instead, all the three Special Advisers will collectively serve as spokespersons for the government.

“This approach aims to ensure effective and consistent communication of government policies, decisions, and engagements.”
