MC Oluomo Visits NURTW National Secretariat After Failed Takeover Attempt

by Folarin Kehinde March 24, 2026
written by Folarin Kehinde

The National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, on Tuesday visited the union’s national secretariat following an attempted takeover by Tajudeen Baruwa a day earlier.

A video seen by LEADING REPORTERS shows the presence of security operatives within and around the premises, with visible damage to offices and properties resulting from the disruption on Monday.

According to earlier reports, Baruwa and six of his supporters were arrested by operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command over the attempted takeover of the secretariat.

The police said the group tried to enforce a court order without the presence of authorised court officials, including sheriffs.

Reacting to the development, Akinsanya denied being a party to the judgment cited by Baruwa, adding that the ruling had already been appealed and a stay of execution obtained.

2027: Road Transport Union Workers, others plan initiative for Tinubu’s re-election

by Folarin Kehinde April 10, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The National Union of Road Transport Workers, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, and other influential youth leaders are set to launch a new socio-political group called Team Nigeria Project to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 general election.

The group aims to increase citizens’ involvement in governance across the country.

The Director General of the group, Olamilekan Pedro, disclosed this to newsmen in Lagos on Wednesday.

Pedro, the organisation will focus on mobilizing support for Tinubu’s continued leadership.

Pedro said, “Under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, since 2023, Nigeria has seen an economic turnaround.

“Tough but necessary decisions, like removing the fuel subsidy, have brought about positive changes. Today, our IGR is growing, and states are receiving more funds from the federal government for development.

“The Naira is stabilizing, local refineries are operating, and small businesses are thriving thanks to better infrastructure like roads and power. Investments in agriculture have boosted food security, and we no longer rely on food imports. Nigeria’s highways are in great shape, and insecurity has significantly reduced, allowing citizens to live in peace.”

Pedro emphasised that the Team Nigeria Project believes a government that has achieved so much deserves to be rewarded with another term.

He also mentioned that several directorates have been set up to mobilize Nigerians, especially women and youth, to support President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election.

The formal launch of TNP will take place next month in Abuja, with top officials from the ruling All Progressives Congress expected to attend.

BREAKING: Labour Minister Suspends MC Oluomo and Baruwa’s Factions of NURTW

by Folarin Kehinde October 10, 2023
written by Folarin Kehinde

Minister of Labour and Employment Simon Lalong has directed the suspension of all activities by the factions of the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) pending an amicable resolution of the dispute.

Leading Reporters gathered that the minister’s directive is contained in a letter signed by Mr. Emmanuel Igbinosun, Director of Trade Union Services and Industrial Relations, on behalf of the minister and addressed to the National President of the union.

The letter noted that both factions in the dispute were notified about the development.

“In view of the above, the Honourable Minister has directed the suspension of all further activities by the factions of the NURTW pending an amicable resolution of the dispute,” the letter read.

“For the avoidance of doubt, all activities in furtherance of the election of new executives and related to the day-to-day operations of the union are suspended henceforth.”

The letter added that further directives would be communicated to the union on or before Friday, October 13, 2023.

The minister’s directive comes amidst a leadership crisis rocking the NURTW, which has led to clashes between the two factions.

Recently, a faction of the union led by Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede forcefully took over the National Secretariat of the union located at Garki 2 and dislodged the incumbent President, Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa.

Baruwa and three other national officers of the union were recently detained in Abuja by the police over the leadership crisis rocking the union.
