BREAKING: DSS Sues El-Rufai for Intercepting NSA Ribadu’s Phone

by Folarin Kehinde February 16, 2026
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Department of State Services (DSS) has filed a suit against former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, accusing him of unlawfully intercepting the phone communications of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

The case was filed at the Federal High Court of Nigeria in Abuja under Charge No. 5026.

According to the suit, El-Rufai allegedly admitted during an interview on Arise TV’s Prime Time Programme on 13 February 2026 that he and his associates unlawfully intercepted the NSA’s phone communications.

The suit contains three counts:

Count One alleges that El-Rufai personally admitted to unlawfully intercepting the NSA’s phone communications, an offence punishable under Section 12(1) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act, 2024.

Count Two claims he knowingly associated with individuals who intercepted the NSA’s communications without reporting them to relevant security agencies, contrary to Section 27(b) of the same Act.

Count Three accuses him and others still at large of using technical equipment to compromise public safety and national security, causing apprehension among Nigerians, in violation of Section 131(2) of the Nigerian Communications Act 2003.

The suit was formally dated 16 February 2026 and marks a significant escalation in the ongoing security and political controversy surrounding El-Rufai.

El-Rufai has previously made statements on Arise TV alleging phone tapping of the NSA, which the DSS claims forms the basis of its legal action.

The Federal High Court is yet to set a date for hearing the matter.

Nigeria loses 400,000 barrels of crude oil daily to Oil thieves- NSA

by Andrew Mailafia August 27, 2023
written by Andrew Mailafia

The National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, has said Nigeria still loses 400,000 barrels of crude oil daily to local and international thieves despite efforts to end the menace.

Speaking on Saturday August, 26, the NSA confirmed this in an inspection exercise of presidential delegation to oil and gas facilities at Owaza in Abia and Odogwa in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers on Saturday.

Noting that the activities of oil thieves and pipeline vandals had impacted negatively on the nation’s economy, he reiterated vandals were partly responsible for the rising cost of living in the country.

“It’s unfortunate that few individuals would steal our common resources, and in the process cause unbelievable loss to both the nation, communities and the people.

“Nigeria has the capacity to produce 2 million barrels of crude daily, but we are currently producing less than 1.6 million barrels due to theft and vandalism of pipelines.

“So, we are talking about 400,000 barrels of crude oil going to waste with few criminals and economic saboteurs not even getting much out of it,” he said.

Further stressing that that the operators of artisanal refineries collect a small quantity of crude oil when they break the pipelines, he mentioned that a larger volumes of oil are spilled on the environment.

“The value of 400,000 barrels of oil today is about 4 million dollars, and every day, we lose this amount because of this irresponsible behaviour.

“If you multiply 4 million dollars by 365 days (one year), you will see that it is a lot of money running into billions of dollars.“Currently, the country is in desperate need of money as the Naira is continuously losing its value because we earn less money.

“We are working hard with the security forces and those employed by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to secure our facilities and end this madness called oil theft,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that on the presidential delegation with the NSA were the Minister of Defence, Baduru Abubakar, and Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa.

Others included the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar; Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, and Minister of State (Oil), Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri.

The Minister of State (Gas), Petroleum Resources, Ekperipe Ekpo, and senior management officials of the NNPCL as well as other top security personnel were part of the team
