“My passport has been withheld again” Senator Natasha cries out

by Folarin Kehinde November 4, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP/Kogi Central) has cried out that Nigerian immigration officers seized her passport at an airport, preventing her from travelling abroad.

Over the weekend, Akpoti-Uduaghan celebrated her second anniversary in the Senate by commissioning projects in Kogi Central.

The lawmaker went live on Instagram at the airport as she questioned immigration officials over the alleged confiscation of her passport.

In the video obtained on Tuesday, she accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of giving the order for her passport to be seized.

She described the action as an unlawful restriction of her movement and a gross violation of her fundamental rights.

“Hello, fellow Nigerians. I’m Senator Natasha. Having completed my second year in office, I decided to take a week off. I’m at the airport here, and my passport has been withheld again,” she said in the video.

“This same thing happened before when I was stopped from travelling even though I had committed no offence, and there was no court order restricting me. The officer in charge told me that the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, instructed them to withhold my passport and prevent me from travelling because he claimed that each time I go abroad, I ‘spoil the image of the country’ by granting interviews to international media.”

National Assembly unseals Natasha’s Office

by Folarin Kehinde September 23, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The National Assembly has unsealed the office of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, located in Suite 2.05 of the Senate Wing.

A video posted on X by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) captured Deputy Director of the Sergeant-at-Arms, Alabi Adedeji, unlocking the office on behalf of the Senate on Tuesday.

The office had been under seal for six months.

“To unseal Senator Natasha Akpoti’s office, I, Alabi Adedeji, Deputy Director, Sergeant-at-Arms, hereby unseal the office,” he declared before opening the door.

The lawmaker was suspended by the Senate in March for six months over her protest against the reassignment of her seat by Senate President Godswill Akpabio on February 20.

The suspension also barred her from participating in all activities of the 10th Senate.

Although the suspension lapsed in September 2025, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was unable to resume her duties due to legal disputes and resistance from Senate leadership.

On July 4, the Federal High Court in Abuja ruled that the suspension was excessive and unconstitutional.

Following this, the senator wrote to the upper chamber to notify it of her intention to resume duties, but the National Assembly turned down her request.

It remains unclear whether she will rejoin her colleagues when plenary resumes on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.

JUST IN: You can’t resume Senate now, NASS tells Natasha

by Folarin Kehinde September 9, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The National Assembly (NASS) has informed suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, that she cannot resume her legislative duties yet after serving her six-month suspension.

According to the National Assembly bureaucracy, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension remains in effect as the case is still before the Court of Appeal.

Tribune Online earlier reports that after the Federal High Court in Abuja ruled in favour of the Senate, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, dissatisfied with the judgment, approached the appellate court seeking redress.

In a letter dated September 4, 2025, and signed by the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly (Ag. CNA), Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, the Parliament acknowledged receipt of Akpoti-Uduaghan’s notification of her intended return to the Senate on the same date, which she cited as the end of her six-month suspension.

However, the letter clarified that her suspension, effective from March 6, 2025, remains in force while the matter is subjudice.

“The matter, therefore, remains subjudice, and until the judicial process is concluded and the Senate formally reviews the suspension in the light of the court’s pronouncement, no administrative action can be taken by this office to facilitate your resumption,” the letter read.

Dr. Danzaria further assured that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan “will be duly notified of the Senate’s decision on the matter as soon as it is resolved.”

Recall that Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended by the Senate in March 2025 following an alleged misconduct involving a dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seat arrangements during a plenary session on the floor of the Red Chamber.

The letter emphasised that the Senate will only review her suspension after the Court of Appeal delivers its final judgement.

Gunmen attack Senator Natasha’s family residence in Kogi

by Folarin Kehinde April 17, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Unknown hoodlums wielding cutlasses and firearms have reportedly attacked the family residence of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, in Obeiba-Ihima area, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert focused on the Lake Chad region, disclosed this in a post on his X handle on Thursday.

Makama said intelligence sources told him that the Chief Security Officer to the Senator, Yakubu Ovanja, reported the incident to security authorities.

According to the security expert, Ovanja revealed that the attack occurred around 1:00 a.m. and involved at least three armed individuals who vandalized the building, including shattering window panes.

“Following a distress alert, a team of security operatives from Okehi Division swiftly mobilized to the scene. While no casualties were reported and no arrests have been made, the premises were documented and preliminary investigations have commenced.

“Police sources said the motive behind the attack remains unknown as investigations continue,” Makama said.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, a prominent political figure in Kogi Central Senatorial District, has not issued a public statement as of press time.

Court bars parties from granting interviews in Natasha’s case against Akpabio, others

by Folarin Kehinde April 4, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Justice Binta Fatima Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja has barred parties in the suit filed by suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and three others from granting press interviews on issues relating to the case.

The judge issued the order on Friday following a complaint by the lawyer to Akpabio, Kehinde Ogunwumiju (SAN), that the plaintiff was moving from one television house to another, granting press interviews on issues relating to her case, which is currently pending before the court.

In a brief ruling, Justice Nyako said there shall be no press interviews by all parties and their lawyers regarding the subject matter of the case.

Justice Nyako also barred parties and their lawyers from engaging in streaming the proceedings of the case on social media.

BREAKING: Senator Natasha Alleges: ‘Akpabio Ordered Yahaya Bello to Kill Me’

by Folarin Kehinde April 1, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the lawmaker representing Kogi Central in the Red Chamber, has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of instructing former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello to kill her.

She also alleged that the current governor, Usman Ododo, is complicit in the plot.

The revelation comes amidst a plot to recall her from the national assembly.

Last week, some constituents from Kogi Central submitted a recall petition against her to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The commission is expected to verify the signatures attached to the petition. According to INEC regulations, the recall process requires more than half of the registered voters in the senatorial district to sign the petition. If this threshold is met, a referendum must be conducted within 90 days.

Under INEC’s recall guidelines, if the petition garners sufficient support, the commission will issue a public notice specifying the time, date, and location of the referendum.

Given the complexity and cost of a recall process, political analysts suggest that the move to unseat Akpoti-Uduaghan may be politically motivated and backed by influential figures.

The recall effort follows a series of controversies involving the senator, who was suspended from the Senate on March 6 for alleged “gross misconduct” after a dispute with Senate President Akpabio.

Addressing her supporters during a rally in her hometown of Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area, Kogi State, on Wednesday, Akpoti-Uduaghan said the attempt to recall her was plotted by Akpabio in connivance with other leaders in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

She said, “Let me say this now. On the 14th of March at 10:30 p.m.—mind you, two days before that, on the 12th—Akpabio spoke to Governor Ododo to recall me. But he told him it would be impossible because the masses are with her, the people are with her. But Akpabio was not satisfied.

“He then called for Yahaya Bello. And it was actually Senator Asuquo (Asuquo Ekpenyong, Cross River South) from Cross River who drove Yahaya Bello from Hilton Hotel. I was informed of everything. And when I got to know—hold on. The meeting was in two parts. He told him to commence my recall and that he was going to fund it. Of course, money changed hands that night.

“The second thing he told him was that he should try and kill me. I didn’t make this public, but I wrote to the IG of Police. And Akpabio told Yahaya Bello—I am standing on what I’ve said. He told him that he should make sure that killing me does not happen in Abuja, that it should be done here so it will seem as if it’s the people that killed me here. I didn’t make that public, but we did notify the security agencies of that.”

Hold Akpabio, Bello, Ododo responsible if anything happens to me – Natasha

by Folarin Kehinde April 1, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The lawmaker representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, on Tuesday, urged Nigerians to hold Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo and his predecessor, Yahaya Bello, responsible if she and her supporters are attacked.

Akpoti-Uduaghan raised the alarm in a post via her official Facebook.

She said, “My dear people of Kogi Central, I look forward to our peaceful Sallah celebrations today.

“However, should we be met with or infiltrated by violence, Nigerians should hold Gov Òdodo, Yahaya Bello & SP Godswill Akpabio wholly responsible.”

Her warning comes a few hours after she vowed in a statement to go ahead with her scheduled visit to her constituency for the Eid-el-Fìtr break and the rally planned for her homecoming.

The senator also urged her supporters to disregard speculations making the round that she has cancelled her scheduled visit.

While stating that she has a statutory function in her capacity as the lawmaker representing her constituents, the embattled senator encouraged her supporters to troop out en masse to celebrate the Eid-el-Fitr with her.

On Monday, the Kogi State Government banned rallies and public gatherings in the state over ‘security reports’.

The government also stopped fishing and other activities, arguing that they recently resulted in the loss of two lives in Kasemiya, Katubo and Umozu Ette, all in Kogi Local Government Area in Kogi West.

The Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo said the move was to prevent any form of security breach.

As of the time of filing this story, one of the Kogi senators named, Bashir Haroon, shared a live feed showing hundreds of Akpoti-Uduaghan’s supporters, comprising mainly women singing and drumming in anticipation of her return.

Senator Natasha Breaks Restrictions, Lands by Helicopter at Homecoming Rally

by Folarin Kehinde April 1, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has defied a state-imposed ban on rallies and movement restrictions to make a dramatic entry into her hometown in Kogi Central, arriving at the venue in Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State by helicopter.

POLITICS NIGERIA previously reported that a large crowd of supporters had gathered in anticipation of her arrival, holding placards and chanting slogans in solidarity with the senator.

The senator had on Tuesday morning warned that Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, and former Governor Yahaya Bello should be held responsible if any violence disrupts the Sallah celebrations.

“My dear people of Kogi Central, I look forward to our PEACEFUL Sallah celebrations today. However, should we be met with or infiltrated by violence, Nigerians should hold Gov Ododo, Yahaya Bello & SP Godswill Akpabio wholly responsible,” she wrote on her verified Facebook page.Nigerian cultural tours

Despite calls from the police to cancel the rally, Akpoti-Uduaghan remained firm in her decision to meet with her constituents. She dismissed rumours of a canceled trip and urged her supporters to disregard misinformation.

The senator, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is currently serving a six-month suspension from the Senate for allegedly violating legislative rules. Additionally, she faces a potential recall, allegedly backed by figures from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Akpoti-Uduaghan has been at the center of several controversies, including a recent accusation against Akpabio of sexual harassment.

Police Warn Senator Natasha Against Returning Home

by Folarin Kehinde April 1, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The police have asked Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduagan to cancel her planned Sallah rally in the Central Senatorial district of Kogi State.

The State Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye made this known on Tuesday in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP William Aya.

According to the statement, the Kogi police boss said the rally is against the proclamation on ban on political gathering by the state government issued on Monday.

The statement said, “Following the intelligence report on security threats in Kogi State and the subsequent ban on all forms of Rally and procession by the Kogi State Government, the Nigeria Police Force, Kogi State Police Command has called on the organisers of planned rally at Okene to cancel such event in the interest of the peace in Kogi State.

“The call for cancellation becomes necessary, noting that intelligence reveals that some hoodlums plan to hijack the process and cause disturbance of peace in the State. The Command cannot afford to jeopardize the existing peace the State is currently enjoying.

Despite the Monday proclamation by the state government banning political gathering or rallies, Akpoti-Uduaghan has vowed to continue with her “homecoming”, adding that she’s only coming to the state to celebrate Eid Fitr with her constituents.
