Workers Protest Poor Allowance At Federal Ministry of Finance

by Nelson Ugwuagbo May 20, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

Members of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) staged a protest at the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja over unresolved issues relating to allowance arrears and other emoluments.

The protesting workers, dressed in red T-shirts, blocked the main gate of the ministry, preventing vehicular movement in and out of the premises.

Although none of the protesters have granted media interviews, placards displayed at the scene indicate that the demonstration is linked to unpaid entitlements and other welfare-related grievances.

The protest caused disruptions within the ministry’s premises, as staff and visitors were temporarily stranded outside the building.

More details are expected as the situation develops.

Group raises alarm over plans to ‘empty’ the National treasury by serving political office holders

A group, League of Patriots has raised alarm over what it described as plans by public office holders serving under President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to empty the treasury through fictitious expenses.

The group said it has information that most serving ministers, director generals and other political appointees have perfected plans to sweep the treasury using newly floated companies as well as that of their proxies.

According to information exclusively obtained by LeadingReporters, top management officers of NNPC, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and agencies under them have been fingered in these accusation.

The group, according to its spokesman said that they have been following events and information in all the MDAs as it relates to the activities of the top management staff and they have information which greatly suggests an impending financial disaster that would be occasioned by last minutes looting of the treasury by outgoing political office holders.

Rising from a meeting in  Austin Texas, the group spokesman Andrew Madaki said that membership of the league are drawn from patriotic Nigerians mostly within the ICT industry.  Madaki said they have placed surveillance on some companies, some financial institutions and individuals who are mostly likely going to serve as a conduit for this illegal transfers and unpatriotic act.

The group says they have alerted Interpol, Financial Action Task Force FAFI,  USA Department of the Treasury,  and other local and international anti-laundering organizations and agencies.

Head of Civil Service of The Federation Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita In N16b Group Life Insurance Scandal

by Leading Reporters August 14, 2019
written by Leading Reporters

These are not the best of times for the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita who has been alleged to have cornered N16b, meant for the Group Life Insurance of the Federal Civil Servants.

According to information unraveled by LeadingReporters, the group life insurance for Federal Civil Servants expired since January 2019 and has not been renewed from February till date.  This is despite the fact that the same sum has been released to the office of the Civil Service of the Federation.

The source disclosed that the money released by the Ministry of Finance, through the office of the Accountant General of The Federation was diverted by Mrs. Winifred E. Oyo-Ita and the heads of account department.

“Mrs. Winifred and other top management staff in the account department of the head of civil service are doing everything possible to cover up the fraudulent diversion of N16billion”.

In another development, it was alleged that Mrs. Winifred and her cohorts have turned promotion of civil servants into a money-making venture as most promotions do not follow laid down procedures.

“Promotion has become a mercantile venture under the current head of civil service of the Federation. Staffs pay for promotion and in most cases, your money determines the level of promotion you get.

“Mrs. Winifred has jettisoned all the laid down procedures for promotion by her predecessors”

Meanwhile, a letter based on Freedom Information Act, 2011 from this news medium addressed to the Head of Civil Service of the Federation dated 11th June, 2019 with the caption “Group Life Insurance:

Request for Information Based On Freedom of Information Act, 2011” seeking explanation into the alleged missing N16b was not responded to.  In the stead, our source said that the letter led to a more aggressive effort at burying all available evidences by those who are culpable.
