Again, NNPC Marketers Increase Petrol Price

by Folarin Kehinde October 14, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) and independent marketers have once again raised the pump price of petrol across the country.

The new price now stands at ₦955 per litre, up from ₦905 barely a week ago.

The fresh increase has triggered more concerns among Nigerians already battling the rising cost of living.

It also comes as cooking gas prices soar nationwide, worsening the financial strain on households.

LEADING REPORTERS gathered that a 12.5kg cylinder of cooking gas now sells for about ₦37,500, compared to ₦12,500 just two weeks ago.

In most cities, the cost of one kilogram of gas has climbed to around ₦3,000, a sharp jump from ₦1,000 earlier this month.

In Abuja, NNPC retail outlets located in Wuse, Gwarimpa, and along the Kubwa Expressway adjusted their prices on Monday to reflect the new rate of ₦955 per litre.

Private filling stations such as AA Rano, Mobil, and Ranoil are now selling between ₦920 and ₦930 per litre, while some MRS stations were dispensing at ₦851 over the weekend.

Speaking on the development, the National President of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PPROOAN), Billy Gillis-Harry, confirmed the increase and linked it to market and logistics issues.

The Public Relations Officer of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Chinedu Ukadike, also attributed the price hike to higher depot costs and insufficient supply from major producers.

According to him, “Dangote increased their loading price to ₦845 per litre, as against ₦825 earlier sold, thereby resulting to a selling price of between ₦900 and ₦955, depending on the location.”

Ukadike further explained that many marketers who paid for products at Dangote Refinery have not been able to load fuel for about two weeks due to rationing and limited supply. “When people are scrambling for products, it results to hike in price,” he said.

However, several filling stations depending on Dangote’s supply have been dry since Sunday, causing scarcity and long queues in parts of Lagos and Abuja.

Transport fares have also started rising as motorists pass the extra cost to passengers.

Dangote Refinery, Marketers to meet over petrol price reduction

by Folarin Kehinde September 23, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria has revealed that its members will be meeting with Dangote Refinery this week over the direct lifting of Premium Motor Spirit(Petrol) and its price reduction.

The Spokesperson of IPMAN, Chief Chinedu Ukadike disclosed this in a recent statement explaining that the members are optimistic about commencing the direct lifting of Dangote Petrol soon.

According to him, adequate distribution of petrol has remained an enigma in the country’s oil and gas sector even after the commencement of Dangote Petrol distribution.

“There is a meeting scheduled for this week between Dangote and IPMAN. We are happy that Dangote has set on a new course in terms of looking to other stakeholders to distribute its products.

”It is now distributing to major marketers and we are hopeful that with time it will start distributing to independent marketers”, he said.

His comment comes as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited retail outlets and other independent filling stations sell Petrol between N950 and N1,100 depending on the location across the country after the lifting of Dangote Fuel.

This comes as the Crude Oil Refiners Association of Nigeria, CORAN urged the Nigerian Government to peg foreign exchange at N1000 per dollar to crash the price of Dangote Refinery’s petrol to below N600 per litre.

Marketers summon emergency meeting over fuel scarcity

by Folarin Kehinde May 5, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

As fuel scarcity deepens across the country, marketers under the aegis of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria have said their National Executive Council would be meeting officially on Monday to find a lasting solution to the problem.

Speaking exclusively with Sunday PUNCH on Saturday, the National President of IPMAN, Hammed Fashola, said that Monday’s meeting became expedient following the prevalence of fuel scarcity despite recent aggressive moves by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

Fashola told our correspondent that the NNPC, which is the sole importer of petroleum products in the country, opened up its reserves in all existing depots across the country on Friday in a bid to ease off the long queues at the fuel stations.

Even before then, the Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria had in a statement confirmed receiving 300 million litres of fuel from eight vessels during the week, which it said has been distributed to its members in Apapa and other locations in Lagos.

Recall that the South-West Regional Coordinator of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Ayo Cardoso, had also said that aside from the 240 million litres offloaded at various depots on Monday, close to 85 million litres of petrol was offloaded as of Tuesday evening.

But speaking to our correspondent on Saturday, Fashola said the Monday meeting is to assess how far the recent moves have gone in addressing the scarcity of petroleum products across the country and that the oil marketers would further engage the NNPC with outcomes of the meeting.

“We are meeting on Monday officially with other marketers. We are working closely with NNPC. The Monday meeting is for our National Executive Council. After the meeting, we will reach out to the NNPC. We talk with them every day,” he stated.

On the likely subject of the Monday meeting, he said, “It will be to assess the present situations. We evaluate what we have done so far. We will look at what is happening in the cities; assess the situations to know what to do again.”

“The meetings we have been having with the NNPC are in collaboration, which we have been doing. If you notice, yesterday (Friday), NNPC opened up their reserves in all the depots throughout the federation. And we are working with them to ensure that everywhere is wet so that this thing (scarcity) can disappear.

“I want to commend NNPC for their proactive measures. We are equally giving them the necessary support we are supposed to give them as oil marketers. I want to use this opportunity to appeal to members of the public to stop panic buying. They should buy what they need. Once they buy what they need, you will see that the long queues will disappear. So we are trying to discourage that (hoarding),” he stated.
