FG Begins Work On Neglected Ekpoma Road

by Folarin Kehinde August 30, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

As promised Esan Youths protesting the sorry state of Benin Auchi Expressway road, that palliative work will commence on the failed portions, the construction company handling the projects kept to their promise as work has commenced fully.

As can be seen in the attached photos, actual work has commenced on the Ekpoma axis of the 47 years old road leading from the Niger Delta region to the Federal capital territory.

Owing to the untold hardship experienced by motorist and residents resulting to travellers spending days transversing through Esanland, Esan youths from far and near embarked on a peaceful protest to attract government attention to the plights and sufferings of road users.

After several days of protest, representatives from the Federal Ministry of Works and the Edo State Ministry of Works and Bridges came to address the protesters who registered their complaints and together, the protesting youths and the government agencies went on an on-the-spot assessment of the failed spots.

The technical teams of the Construction firm, Dantata and Sawoe thereafter assured the youths that work will commence the next day. But the youths insisted that the protest will continue until actual work commences before suspending the protest.

Today Urban Scoop Media confirm that the earth moving equipments were in site and that work have started in earnest.

Comrade Ohens Kingsley, President of Esan Youths Organization who filed in the report, told Urban Scoop Media that he is grateful to the initiators of the protest, the Esan Liberation Movement, the Ekpoma Eminent Stakeholders Forum CEESF and all other Organizations and youths who supported the peaceful protest.

He further call on the contractors and government agencies to ensure the length and breath of the ancient road is repaired and made motorable most especially the Ekpoma to Ewu Axis that has become a nightmare to road users and residents. He also called on the contractors to speed up the dualization work given to them by the federal government stating that the delay of work going to 10 years now is fearful.

Remember that LEADINGREPORTERS last week reported about the ongoing protest at the Benin Auchi Express way in Ekpoma, Edo state. Indigenes had come out in mass to protest the deplorable state of the expoma road which had been neglected by the federal government.
