Exposed: How Gov. Okowa wasted N3b of Deltans money buying media awards

by Leading Reporters March 11, 2023
written by Leading Reporters

It was Niccolo Machiavelli that said that titles do not honour men but it is men that honour title. But according to a recent revelation by a Delta State born good governance activist, Fejiro Oliver, the outgoing Governor of Delta State Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa plunged N3billion in ‘buying’ up media titles and honors.

According to Oliver, the sum of N105,000,000 (One Hundred and Five Million Naira) was withdrawn by Gov. Okowa from the Directorate of Government House and Protocol account on the 8th of January 2019 with which he curried 2018 SilverBird Man of the Year as well as Daily Independent 2018 Man of the Year Awards.

According to a post shared on his verified social media handle, the state bank transaction description he exclusively obtained showed “Awards as ‘2018 SilverBird Man of the Year’ and ‘Daily Independent 2018 Man of the Year’ by Silverbird Communication and Daily Independent Newspapers respectively.”

The withdrawal was said to be made under Head 412A B11 (iii) Government House Publicity/Press Relations indicated that the money was approved and fully paid to the Governor on 8th January, 2019.

Fejiro Oliver frowned that the the Governor could spend that large sum even when the state pensioners were crying to be paid their pensions.

He wondered why a governor’s personal awards and media titles should be paid from the state’s purse and asked the relevance of a “bought award” to a state that has borrowed its future away as a result of poor governance.

He said that in 8 years, Okowa has spent over N3 billion buying media awards across the country.

“N3 billion will clear over 30% pensioners but he chose to waste it.

He said if Okowa stooge, Sheriff Oborevwori is not voted out come the next governorship election, Okowa would continue to wreck havoc on the state treasury using Sheriff Oborevwori. He opined that only a man like DSP Ovie Omo-Agege of APC can end this reign of idiocy.

Okowa sets to borrow N12b to curry Delta state pensioners’ votes

by Leading Reporters February 21, 2023
written by Leading Reporters

Despite public outcry over incessant loans by the outgoing Governor of Delta State, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Delta state is going to be plunged further with another N12billion loan, according to an insider information.

The new loans which will soon be presented to the State House of Assembly for approval, according to a source, is targeted to be used to pay pensioners, a move many believe is to curry the votes of Delta State pensioners.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is the running mate of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar who is currently vying to be elected Nigeria President under the People’s Democratic Party.

Since the emergence of Governor Okowa as Atiku’s running mate, the state government under him has resorted to untamed borrowing.

Okowa’s critics believe that the hundreds of billions of Naira incessantly borrowed may have been for campaign purposes.

Delta State is one if the richest oil producing states. Despite these fortunes, and the massive inflow of funds from the Federal Government and other sources, the state is emerging as one of the most indebted states in Nigeria.

The borrowing has recently peaked, and many Deltans are calling on banks and other borrowing institutions to refrain extending further loans to the state.

Two Decomposing Bodies Discovered In Abandoned Vehicle In Abraka

by Leading Reporters March 13, 2021
written by Leading Reporters

The decomposing bodies of two children identified as Fega and Kelvin aged seven and nine years respectively on Tuesday were found in the back seat of an abandoned vehicle in Okpoghoro Street, Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.

Although, the police is yet to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of the two male children, a news that shook Abraka, the mother of the children, Odiri said she last saw her kids yesterday, adding that this morning, she was at the place of her mother-in-law, Felecia to find out if the kids were with her only to be told that they left since yesterday.

However, sources said that the state of the corpses show that the children may have been in the parked vehicle for over two weeks.

While the police is still investigating the matter, the owner of the vehicle, a green tinted Range Rover, Pastor Tayo, was detained by the police, as he expressed surprise at the matter.

Tayo, who works in Warri and on a daily basis shuttles his residence and work place, denied any involvement in the incidence.

Sources said it was the stench of the corpses that drew the attention of neighbours and passers-by that led to a search and the surprising discovery.

Police sources expressed surprise that the mother of the children did not report the case of her missing children to the police.

Odiri, a hairdresser in the Abraka main market, was said to be at her business place when news got to her that her missing children were found lifeless and their corpses decomposing in a parked vehicle.

The said vehicle, we learnt, has been on the same spot for five years which the owner said was abandoned because of the much repairs that the car needed.

A relative of the family who spoke to Oasis Magazine (OM) under conditions of anonymity described the incidence as an act of carelessness.

Many residents in the university town hope in the coming days, a clear picture of what led to the death of the innocent kids would be known.

Odiri is said to be of the Igben family and a mother of five before she lost Tega and Kelvin.

Her husband, Meshack Izagabon died five years ago.

At the time of filing this report, the remains of the children have been buried in Abraka.

Attempts to speak with the police authority in the state proved abortive.
