National Assembly unseals Natasha’s Office

by Folarin Kehinde September 23, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The National Assembly has unsealed the office of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, located in Suite 2.05 of the Senate Wing.

A video posted on X by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) captured Deputy Director of the Sergeant-at-Arms, Alabi Adedeji, unlocking the office on behalf of the Senate on Tuesday.

The office had been under seal for six months.

“To unseal Senator Natasha Akpoti’s office, I, Alabi Adedeji, Deputy Director, Sergeant-at-Arms, hereby unseal the office,” he declared before opening the door.

The lawmaker was suspended by the Senate in March for six months over her protest against the reassignment of her seat by Senate President Godswill Akpabio on February 20.

The suspension also barred her from participating in all activities of the 10th Senate.

Although the suspension lapsed in September 2025, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was unable to resume her duties due to legal disputes and resistance from Senate leadership.

On July 4, the Federal High Court in Abuja ruled that the suspension was excessive and unconstitutional.

Following this, the senator wrote to the upper chamber to notify it of her intention to resume duties, but the National Assembly turned down her request.

It remains unclear whether she will rejoin her colleagues when plenary resumes on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.

JUST IN: Akpabio returns from London vacation amid health speculation

by Folarin Kehinde August 18, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has returned to Nigeria after a short vacation in London, dispelling widespread rumours about his health.

Akpabio arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at 4am on Monday and was received by senators, aides and supporters at the presidential wing.

His absence after attending the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva, Switzerland, from July 29 to 31, had sparked speculation on social media that he was critically ill and hospitalised.

Speaking with journalists on arrival, Akpabio dismissed the rumours, describing them as baseless.

“There’s nothing like such. I’m fit as a fiddle. I only stopped over in London for a short vacation,” he said.

JUST IN: Senate passes tax reform bills

by Folarin Kehinde May 7, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The two bills passed are the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill and the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill.

These bills were passed after the senators reviewed the report of an ad hoc committee chaired by Niger East Senator Sani Musa. The committee was constituted to address controversies and disputes surrounding the proposed reforms. On Wednesday, each clause of the bills were debated and considered at the Committee of the Whole.

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, announced passage of the bills after a majority of the senators supported them through voice vote.

Mr Akpabio said the Senate will set up a committee to harmonise its decision on the bills wit the version passed by the House of Representatives in March. Once harmonised, the unified bills will be transmitted to President Tinubu for assent.

The senate president said the remaining two bills, the Nigeria Tax Bill 2024 and the Tax Administration Bill, would be passed on Thursday.

Justice Binta Fatima Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja has barred parties in the suit filed by suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and three others from granting press interviews on issues relating to the case.

The judge issued the order on Friday following a complaint by the lawyer to Akpabio, Kehinde Ogunwumiju (SAN), that the plaintiff was moving from one television house to another, granting press interviews on issues relating to her case, which is currently pending before the court.

In a brief ruling, Justice Nyako said there shall be no press interviews by all parties and their lawyers regarding the subject matter of the case.

Justice Nyako also barred parties and their lawyers from engaging in streaming the proceedings of the case on social media.

BREAKING: Senator Natasha Alleges: ‘Akpabio Ordered Yahaya Bello to Kill Me’

by Folarin Kehinde April 1, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the lawmaker representing Kogi Central in the Red Chamber, has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of instructing former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello to kill her.

She also alleged that the current governor, Usman Ododo, is complicit in the plot.

The revelation comes amidst a plot to recall her from the national assembly.

Last week, some constituents from Kogi Central submitted a recall petition against her to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The commission is expected to verify the signatures attached to the petition. According to INEC regulations, the recall process requires more than half of the registered voters in the senatorial district to sign the petition. If this threshold is met, a referendum must be conducted within 90 days.

Under INEC’s recall guidelines, if the petition garners sufficient support, the commission will issue a public notice specifying the time, date, and location of the referendum.

Given the complexity and cost of a recall process, political analysts suggest that the move to unseat Akpoti-Uduaghan may be politically motivated and backed by influential figures.

The recall effort follows a series of controversies involving the senator, who was suspended from the Senate on March 6 for alleged “gross misconduct” after a dispute with Senate President Akpabio.

Addressing her supporters during a rally in her hometown of Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area, Kogi State, on Wednesday, Akpoti-Uduaghan said the attempt to recall her was plotted by Akpabio in connivance with other leaders in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

She said, “Let me say this now. On the 14th of March at 10:30 p.m.—mind you, two days before that, on the 12th—Akpabio spoke to Governor Ododo to recall me. But he told him it would be impossible because the masses are with her, the people are with her. But Akpabio was not satisfied.

“He then called for Yahaya Bello. And it was actually Senator Asuquo (Asuquo Ekpenyong, Cross River South) from Cross River who drove Yahaya Bello from Hilton Hotel. I was informed of everything. And when I got to know—hold on. The meeting was in two parts. He told him to commence my recall and that he was going to fund it. Of course, money changed hands that night.

“The second thing he told him was that he should try and kill me. I didn’t make this public, but I wrote to the IG of Police. And Akpabio told Yahaya Bello—I am standing on what I’ve said. He told him that he should make sure that killing me does not happen in Abuja, that it should be done here so it will seem as if it’s the people that killed me here. I didn’t make that public, but we did notify the security agencies of that.”

Hold Akpabio, Bello, Ododo responsible if anything happens to me – Natasha

by Folarin Kehinde April 1, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The lawmaker representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, on Tuesday, urged Nigerians to hold Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo and his predecessor, Yahaya Bello, responsible if she and her supporters are attacked.

Akpoti-Uduaghan raised the alarm in a post via her official Facebook.

She said, “My dear people of Kogi Central, I look forward to our peaceful Sallah celebrations today.

“However, should we be met with or infiltrated by violence, Nigerians should hold Gov Òdodo, Yahaya Bello & SP Godswill Akpabio wholly responsible.”

Her warning comes a few hours after she vowed in a statement to go ahead with her scheduled visit to her constituency for the Eid-el-Fìtr break and the rally planned for her homecoming.

The senator also urged her supporters to disregard speculations making the round that she has cancelled her scheduled visit.

While stating that she has a statutory function in her capacity as the lawmaker representing her constituents, the embattled senator encouraged her supporters to troop out en masse to celebrate the Eid-el-Fitr with her.

On Monday, the Kogi State Government banned rallies and public gatherings in the state over ‘security reports’.

The government also stopped fishing and other activities, arguing that they recently resulted in the loss of two lives in Kasemiya, Katubo and Umozu Ette, all in Kogi Local Government Area in Kogi West.

The Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo said the move was to prevent any form of security breach.

As of the time of filing this story, one of the Kogi senators named, Bashir Haroon, shared a live feed showing hundreds of Akpoti-Uduaghan’s supporters, comprising mainly women singing and drumming in anticipation of her return.

Tinubu’s Second Term Guaranteed, Says Akpabio

by Folarin Kehinde March 28, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Senate President Godswill Akpabio says President Bola Ahmed Tinubu can rest assured that his second term in office is guaranteed, notwithstanding the ongoing plot by the opposition to unseat him in the 2027 poll.

Speaking during the special Iftar/Lent dinner organized by the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) aimed at strengthening fellowship and deepening bonds of unity among governors, National Assembly members, ministers, top government functionaries, and the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja on Wednesday night, he expressed optimism that the APC would also sweep more elective seats across the country in the 2027 poll.

Applauding the Governor Hope Uzodinma-led PGF for organizing the event, he called on party stalwarts across the country to work together to achieve the objective.

He said: “Can we say amen! We will offer prayers for our party, that yes, indeed, victory shall be ours in 2027. Can we say a loud amen! And we will also pray for Mr. President that his second term is assured. Can we shout a loud amen!

So, for the party, our governors, you will grow in numbers, you will grow in numbers. On our part in the parliament, ours is to continue to add the numbers to you. We just recently sent one of our own in the Senate to go and take care of Edo State. Is that not a good thing?”

Uzodinma remarked that the occasion allows party stalwarts to pray, reason, and work together in the task of nation-building, adding that all hands must be on deck to ensure the victory of the APC in the 2027 poll.

Because we practice partisan democracy, and because we produce the government, we must take ownership of the government no matter where we are and where we sit. The success of the government is our collective success. The failure of the government is our collective failure. And the government is like a product,” he noted.

And all of us are marketing officers that must market this product. So the whole idea behind this… is to once more have a platform to appreciate ourselves, to celebrate our own, because the government is our own.

“I will never apologize for speaking the truth” Natasha dare Senate

by Folarin Kehinde March 24, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi ‘Central) has urged the public to ignore the viral report claiming that she apologised to the Senate.

Natasha in a statement on Monday titled, “Re-purported apology to the Senate over my sexual allegations claim against Senate President Godswill Akpabio”, said, “I, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, stand firm in my resolve to never apologise for speaking my truth.”

She also said her six-month suspension is a “clear case of political victimisation”, but stressed that she would not be deterred.

Natasha was suspended by the Senate for six months recently for alleged gross misconduct, days after a face-off with Akpabio over a change of sitting arrangement in the chambers during plenary.

She consequently, accused Akpabio of making sexual advances at her and later petitioned the United Nations over the issue.

The Kogi Senator in the statement said, “I will continue to fight for the rights of Nigerian women and ensure that our voices are heard.

“The desperation to silence me is palpable, but I will not be intimidated. The games being played in full view of the Nigerian people will be exposed, and the corrupt individuals who have hijacked our institutions will be held accountable.

“As a senator, I have a duty to represent my constituents and uphold the principles of justice and transparency. My allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio were not made lightly, and I will continue to seek justice and accountability, no matter the cost.

“I urge the public to ignore the viral report claiming that I apologised to the Senate, as it is entirely false. I will continue to stand by my truth and fight for what is right, even in the face of adversity.”

BREAKING: Akpabio Considers Stepping Down as Senate Moves to Indefinitely Suspend Natasha

by Folarin Kehinde March 16, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Senate President Godswill Akpabio is reportedly considering stepping down temporarily as part of a plan to clear his name of sexual harassment allegations while paving the way for the indefinite suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Sources within the Senate revealed that the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions (SCEPPP) will conduct an investigation into the allegations against Akpabio.

The panel is expected to officially exonerate him before recommending the indefinite suspension of Senator Natasha, who accused him of sexual harassment amid a dispute over seating arrangements in the Senate chamber.

Insiders in the federal legislature, reveal that both Akpabio and Natasha are set to appear before the committee in the coming days. The alleged plan is to have Akpabio step aside briefly “to fulfil all righteousness,” only for the committee to clear him of all wrongdoing. This will then be followed by Natasha’s suspension for the remainder of her tenure.

The investigation will be led by Senator Neda Imasuen. It is alleged that the recent statements by Senator Ireti Kingibe and Senate Deputy Chief Whip Onyekachi Nwebonyi are part of this well-made plan.

Kingibe, who initially criticized Natasha for her reaction to the seat reassignment, has now pledged to support an investigation into the sexual harassment claim.

“First, I would like to assure Nigerians that I will be at the forefront to champion the sexual harassment case involving my colleague, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan when the investigation comes to the red chamber.

“I am aware of the narrative that has been going around, and to set the record straight, my actions were not to undermine her claims, but to buttress that I was not aware in the first place of any such happenings. Notwithstanding, I remain steadfast in the fight against all forms of violence against girls and women,” her statement on Friday said.

Meanwhile, Nwebonyi, during an interview with Channels Television, confirmed that both Akpabio and Natasha would appear before the investigative panel, along with other senators who were present during the alleged incident.

A top Senate source disclosed that the goal is to ensure Natasha remains suspended for the rest of her tenure.

“The plan currently being orchestrated is to suspend Senator Natasha till the end of her tenure in 2027. The report of the panel is already being prepared, and the panel itself is just a formality.

“Akpabio will announce that he is stepping down temporarily to face investigation. After a few hours, the committee will declare him innocent, and Natasha will be suspended indefinitely,” the source revealed.

The conflict between the two senators escalated after Senator Natasha accused Akpabio of sexually harassing her during a visit to his residence in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, in December 2023. According to her, Akpabio held her hand, led her around his house, and made inappropriate advances—even in the presence of her husband.

Prior to that, Natasha had refused to accept a new seat in the chamber. She was eventually suspended for six months over what the Senate labelled as “misconduct.”

The decision was based on a report by the Senate Ethics Committee, chaired by Senator Neda Imasuen.

Following her suspension, she was restrained from coming close to the Senate building. She was also instructed to surrender all official property to the Clerk of the National Assembly, among other penalties.
