WAFCON: Adeboye Counters Tinubu, Advocates Bigger Rewards for Coaches Over Players

by Folarin Kehinde August 3, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye has stated that Nigeria’s coaches should get more rewards than players.

Adeboye while speaking on Sunday at the monthly Thanksgiving service in Lagos acknowledged President Tinubu for the handsome rewards to the super falcons noted that the coaches should get more.

“I thank President Tinubu for rewarding the players but I think coaches should be more rewarded.

“Coaches have knowledge and they have applied such on the players, hence they should get more rewards.

“It is the coaches that tell you this the way to go about it, you need a coach to win because of you don’t know how to win you will lose”. he added.

Recall that President Tinubu rewarded Super Falcons with $100,000 each, houses, and national honours after their historic WAFCON victory against host Morocco.

The coaches and technical crew were left out but Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, gifted  the Super Falcons coach, Justin Madugu, a three-bedroom bungalow and N50 million for leading the national women’s football team to victory.

While many Nigerians believe that the reward was too much, others stated that they deserve more.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, the collapse of a two-storey building under construction was at Craig street off Apata Road in the Shomolu area of Lagos State.

LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Lagos.

Oke-Osanyintolu said the incident occurred during the decking phase of the construction,”Upon arrival at the incident scene, it was discovered that the structure was one of two structures being erected at the site.

“No casualties were recorded as workers reportedly evacuated the site before the arrival of emergency responders,” he said.

Adeboye Denies Viral AI-Generated Video Promoting Drug

by Folarin Kehinde March 26, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor E. A. Adeboye, has distanced himself from a viral video advertising a drug.

A Facebook advert campaign, featuring an alleged image of the clergyman, had circulated online.

One of the video clips, posted via the handle ‘Africa Health Centre’, depicted Adeboye advertising a “unique remedy for prostatitis”.

In response, Adeboye released a statement on his Facebook page, clarifying that the motion picture was AI-generated, and urged the general public to disregard it.

The statement reads: “I have been made aware of disturbing AI-generated videos circulating online, falsely advertising certain drugs and scholarships, intended to deceive and mislead people.

“These videos are NOT from me, and I want to make it clear that I have no involvement in such promotions. I urge all of you, my dear brothers and sisters in Christ, to be vigilant and not fall for these fraudulent schemes.

They are designed to exploit your trust for selfish gain. Please do not share or engage with these posts.

“I encourage you to report these fake accounts and videos immediately on all social media platforms. Together, we can ensure that such deception does not spread further.

“These malicious acts by ‘Africa Health Centre’ and ‘Church-Funded Scholarships’ are already being dealt with by the relevant authorities, as we will not allow God’s name to be used in vain for such wickedness. Let us continue to stay in the truth, walk in love, and remain focused on the genuine work of the Kingdom.”

Pastor Adeboye calls for release of TikToker, SeaKing

by Folarin Kehinde February 9, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God Worldwide, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has called for the immediate release of popular TikToker Olumide Ogunsanwo, also known as SeaKing, following his arrest for criticizing the cleric on social media.

Adeboye distanced himself from the arrest, stating that he was not involved in the incident or responsible for the actions that led to SeaKing’s detention.

SeaKing, in a TikTok video shared in December 2024, had publicly criticized Adeboye for urging people to fast for 100 days in prayer for Nigeria, calling the directive “stupid.”

The video sparked outrage, leading to a petition by the Concerned Christian Youth Forum to the Lagos State Police Command, which resulted in SeaKing’s arrest.

In a viral video, Adeboye clarified that he did not instruct non-members of his church to participate in the 100-day fast, adding that only his congregation was expected to observe it.

He expressed surprise at the arrest and called for SeaKing’s release, saying, “Release him. He is fulfilling prophecy.”

The cleric further explained that while he had heard of the TikToker’s criticism, he did not request his arrest, and the situation was not one of his making.

“I didn’t ask anybody who is not a member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God to fast. But God said that it would happen,” Adeboye stated.

On the other hand, James Adama, the convener of the Concerned Christian Youth Forum, admitted that the group was behind SeaKing’s arrest.

In a statement, Adama justified the group’s actions, saying the arrest was a response to a growing concern about cyber harassment directed at religious leaders.

He condemned SeaKing’s harsh remarks, calling them “vicious” and a violation of cultural norms that demand respect for elders.

“This brazen act of verbal harassment is not only reprehensible but also undermines the crucial principle of respect for elders,” Adama said.

Pastor Adeboye lay curse on those behind ‘Alhaji’ meme says mockers will not survive 2025

by Folarin Kehinde January 5, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye, has said God told him mockers will become more aggressive in 2025, but many of them will not survive the year.

In a viral video of his sermon during the first Holy Ghost Night service of 2025, Mr Adeboye referred to an AI-generated meme depicting him as an Alhaji. He explained that God told him mockers would intensify their efforts this year but that many would not make it through.

“I’m sure many of you saw on the internet how some people used AI to generate a picture of me looking like an Alhaji. How many of you saw that one?” Mr Adeboye asked his congregation, laughing.

“The Lord said, ‘Mockers will be louder and more aggressive this year than ever before. But unfortunately, Daddy says many of them will not survive this year,’” Mr Adeboye said, as his congregation responded with a resounding “Amen.”

He added, “I’m the one who added ‘unfortunately’ because God doesn’t want the death of sinners. But many of them have decided not to repent.”

The comments from Mr Adeboye followed the circulation of an AI-generated image, which portrayed him as a Muslim pilgrim in Mecca.

The photo went viral in the final days of 2024, coinciding with a heated debate over a controversial banner displayed on the fence of a mosque in the Lekki area of Lagos.

The banner claimed that Jesus was a prophet, not the Son of God, as believed by Christians.

2025: “Anything can happen, mockers will not survive the year” Pastor Adeboye declares in New Year prophecy

by Folarin Kehinde January 1, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has made declarations for the new year.

The cleric while speaking at his church’s crossover service said 2025 will be a year of landmark for Nigeria and Nigerians.

Adeboye describing 2025 as a year for everyone would always remember, said detractors would be louder and very aggressive this year.

He said, “Earthly helpers would be replaced by heavenly helpers this year. Mockers would be louder and more aggressive, but unfortunately, many of them will not survive the year.

“It’s unfortunate because God did not want the death of a sinner but to repent. But some people have made up their minds not to repent.

“A landmark year means a lot of things. Anything can happen. But I pray only good things will happen to you,” Adeboye said.

VIDEO: Adeboye reverses self on “no tithe-no heaven” claim, tenders apology

by Folarin Kehinde October 4, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

In a rare case of self reversal and demonstration of humility, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has apologised for saying anybody who does not pay tithe will not make it to heaven.

Adeboye tendered the apology on Thursday while ministering at the ongoing youth convention of the church.

While inspiring the youth to aspire to do more for the Lord, he paused in the course of the message before dropping the shocking and unexpected apology for his comments on tithe payment.

“I am sorry for saying that if you don’t pay tithe, you won’t go to heaven. That is not in the Bible. What the Bible says is: follow peace with all men and holiness without which no man will make heaven,” Pastor Adeboye said.

Alluding to his message some years ago that non-tithers would not make heaven, he said: “It is possible to be right and wrong at the same time. I will prove it to you. For years, we taught that light travels in a straight line. Later, we say it travels in waves.”

He, however, told the youth that it was wrong to have limited people to “10 per cent when some of you should be giving 20 per cent, and 30 per cent, etc.

“10 per cent should be for beginners. Giving should be done violently. If you want to be on top to control finances, you will give beyond 10 per cent,” Adeboye said in what would appear to reduce tithe payment to the discretion of the congregants.

He recalled his experience at one of the conventions of the ministry of Kenneth E Hagin in Tulsa, United States, where a man promised to give more than what the 17,000 participants at the convention gave.

He said all participants had contributed about $3.5 million for the building of the Rhema Bible College, but the man promised he would give more than what everybody contributed to the project.

Pastor Adeboye disclosed that when he asked the man the secret of his sacrificial giving lifestyle, the latter told him how he had started a business with $500 and had told God if he blessed him, he would not insult Him with 10 per cent.

According to him, five years after the man started the business, he was making a turnover of $50 million, adding that was what inspired him to give towards God’s work enormously.

“I am sorry for saying you should pay 10 per cent. If we are going to dominate, we have to give violently,” Church Times quoted Adeboye to have said.

Watch video below:

"I’m apologizing for saying If you don’t pay tithe, you won’t make it to heaven.' I’m sorry, that’s wrong, and it’s not in the Bible."

Tithing should be guided by personal revelation and a desire to connect with or activate a blessing, not something done out of compulsion. pic.twitter.com/18zbEcoFc2

I’d like to die after eating pounded yam — Adeboye

by Folarin Kehinde December 10, 2023
written by Folarin Kehinde

The General overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has revealed how he would like to die.

The cleric who disclosed this at the ongoing annual Holy Ghost Congress of the church on Thursday in Ogun State, said he wanted a death similar to one of his uncles.

He said, “I know somebody will say if we are never sick, how are we going to die and go to heaven? You don’t need to be sick to go to heaven.

“An uncle of mine woke up on a thanksgiving Sunday, went to Church, danced like everybody else, came home and his wife gave him a light breakfast before preparing the original food which was pounded yam. She was already pounding the yam when my uncle decided to go to the toilet.

“After she finished pounding, she knocked at the door of the toilet, when they opened the door, my uncle was gone; no sickness, no ache, no pain. If the Lord tarries His coming, I will go on a Sunday after a good meal of pounded yam.”
