Abuja Serial Vandal Electrocuted While Trying to Steal High-Voltage Cables – Police

The Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Monday, said that a suspected cable thief, Muktar Rabiu, has been electrocuted while trying to steal some high-voltage cables.

A series cable vandal, Rabiu was said to have committed the crime on November 28, 2024, barely weeks after his was arrested and sentenced to the same crime.

The Police spokesperson in the FCT, Josephine Adeh, in a statement issued on Monday, December 16, said Rabiu was initial arrested on November 21, by some officers on patrol along Christ the King Road in Gwagwalada area of the FCT.

He was sentenced to 42 strokes of the cane and community service but went back to committing the same crime for which he was punished.

Adeh said, “This time, however, karma intervened. 28/11/2024, some few weeks after the community service, While attempting to dismantle the electrical apparatus, Rabiu suffered severe electrocution, leaving him critically injured. He is now receiving medical treatment in a hospital.”

The police spokesperson added that Rabiu will be charged to court once he recovers from the impact of the electrocution.

She said, “In light of these events, the police encourage citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest station or through the Command’s emergency lines. Community participation is vital in the fight against vandalism, ensuring a safer environment for all.”
