UAE Visa: Nigerians To Pay Non-Refundable N688,000 For Document Verification Fee

by Folarin Kehinde July 17, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

The lifting of the visa ban on Nigerian passport holders by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) government comes with modified conditions for obtaining a UAE visa requiring the payment of a nonrefundable fee of N688,000.

The major requirement is a compulsory document verification process for all Nigerian travellers above 13 years before they can proceed with the visa application process. Travelers must first obtain a Document Verification Number (DVN) upon successful review.

The Document Verification Hub, a specialised service designed to authenticate and verify documentation essential for visa applications, is where Nigerian travellers must verify their documents. This mandatory verification process requires a non-refundable fee of N688,000 and N48,000 for the 7.5% Value Added Tax.

To obtain a UAE visa, Nigerian passport holders must fulfil five requirements: Document Verification Number (DVN): A valid DVN confirming the authenticity of submitted documents; Proof of Bank Account: A six-month bank statement showing a minimum balance of $10,000 USD; Round-Trip Flight Tickets: Evidence of booked round-trip flight tickets; Hotel Booking: Proof of a confirmed and paid hotel booking; Visa Fee Payment: The visa fee must be paid by credit card at the UAE Visa Centre in Abuja, Nigeria. For Nigerians residing abroad, the fee can be paid at the nearest UAE Visa Centre.

Tinubu deeply love Nigerians despite economic hardship says First Lady

by Folarin Kehinde July 17, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu has said that his husband, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has deep love for Nigerians despite the economic hardship the citizens are experiencing.

The first lady made this known when she paid the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu a courtesy visit, according to a statement on Tuesday by her Media Aide, Busola Kukoyi.

She assured that President Tinubu would do well to address the challenges facing the country.

On his part, Oba Akiolu urged Nigerians to be patient with Tinubu’s administration.

“All that I am saying and appealing is that we should pray for Nigeria and the president. We should be patient. Everything good needs prayers,” he said.

This comes as Nigerians grapple with high headline and food inflation which stood at 34.19 percent and 40.87 respectively.

Consequently, the purchasing power of Nigerians has continued to wane as hunger bites harder.

BREAKING: Judge angrily walks out as EFCC, Yahaya Bello’s lawyer exchange banters in open court

by Folarin Kehinde July 17, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

The planned arraignment of Yahaya Bello, former governor of Kogi State on alleged N82 billion fraud charges took a dangerous dimension on Wednesday when two senior advocates engaged in a war of words during the proceedings.

The two lawyers are Abdulwahab Mohammed, standing for Bello, SAN, and Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, standing for the federal government.

Trouble started when Mohammed announced his appearance for the former governor and left out his colleague, Adeola Adedipe, SAN.

However, the federal government counsel opposed the exclusion on the grounds that Adedipe should be included in the proceedings until discharged by the court.

Adedipe interrupted the argument of the federal government lawyer, insisting that he was not prepared to be part of the proceedings.

At this stage, Mohammed interjected and announced that Adedipe had filed a notice of withdrawal from the proceedings.

As Justice Emeka Nwite was about to deliver a ruling on the contentious appearance matter, Bello’s lawyer stood up and requested to be allowed to stay outside the proceedings if the court proceeded with the ruling.

Fuming with anger, Mohammed openly called Pinheiro, SAN, a rough lawyer who takes delight in misleading the court.

His attempt to make further abusive remarks about the federal government lawyer was aborted, but Mohammed refused to apologise, insisting that he would leave the court should the judge go ahead with the ruling.

When tempers rose beyond control, Justice Emeka Nwite, out of anger, abruptly brought the proceedings to an end by walking straight into his chamber.

At the time of this report, tension was still high in the courtroom.

Pope Francis appoints new ambassador to Nigeria

by Folarin Kehinde July 17, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

Head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, has appointed the Most Reverend Michael F. Crotty, as the new Apostolic Nuncio (ambassador) to Nigeria.

An apostolic nuncio, also known as a papal nuncio, is an ecclesiastical diplomat, serving as an envoy or a permanent diplomatic representative of the Holy See to a state or to an international organization.

This was contained in a communiqué issued on Tuesday, July 16, by the Apostolic Nunciature (Embassy of the Holy See) to Nigeria and endorsed by Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, Archbishop of Owerri and President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN).

Speaking on the appointment, Archbishop Ugorji appreciated Pope Francis for appointing Archbishop Crotty as the Apostolic Nuncio to Nigeria to build on the good works of his predecessor, Archbishop Antonio Filipazzi.

“We also celebrate the historic connection between our nations, as Archbishop Crotty becomes our first Apostolic Nuncio from Ireland, just as Archbishop Jude Thaddeus Okolo, who served as the first Apostolic Nuncio from Nigeria in Ireland.

“We appreciate Archbishop Crotty’s acceptance of serving in Nigeria and assure him of our full support and cooperation,” Ugorji said.

Archbishop Crotty, a native of Mitchelstown, Cork, Ireland, was born on March 26, 1970 and on July 3, 1994 ordained a priest for the Diocese of Cloyne (Ireland).

The House of Representatives and top government officials had defended the move, saying acquiring a new jet was more cost effective than maintaining the old ones.

According to Empowered Newswire on Monday evening , the aircraft is currently in France and has been spotted at an advanced stage of preparation.

The plane has been assigned a tail registration that features the seal of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It was reportedly ready for delivery.

Police Put on Red Alert, Govt Officials Worry Over Planned Nationwide Protest Against Hardship

by Folarin Kehinde July 15, 2024
written by Folarin Kehinde

A planned nationwide protest across the country has put the police on high alert and caused anxiety among government officials.

The protest scheduled for August 1-10, 2024 is organized by Nigerian youths. It aims to draw attention to the country’s worsening hardship and pressure the government to reverse policies blamed for the hardship.

The police have issued a memo urging officers to prevent the protest.

A leaked memo said, “Some groups are mobilizing for mass protest nationwide beginning from 1 to 10 2024”.

The memo, dated July 8 and copied to zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, urged the operatives to be proactive and “mobilize well-kitted and equipped personnel” ahead of the protest.

“INGENPOL directs you to be proactive, mobilize well-kitted and equipped personnel, synergize with other sister agencies and the military, takeover all strategic points in your AOR, deploy undercover for intelligent gathering, disperse unlawful gatherings, be in heart-to-heart conversation with community stakeholders, no form of protest must be allowed during the period,” it said.

The planned protest has instilled fear in Nigerian public officer holders, especially lawmakers who are fidgeting over possible attacks on them. The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday engaged in a panic debate, expressing fear of attacks by angry Nigerians who are deep in prevailing hardship.

The protest is a response to the government’s policies, which have led to fuel price hikes, high cost of living, and food insecurity.

Organizers are demanding an end to the subsidy scam, reversal of fuel prices to below N300 per litre, reduction of tertiary education fees, restoration of electricity tariffs to affordable levels, reduction of import duties, disclosure and reduction of senators’ and house members’ salaries and allowances, and EFCC reform.

Coalition Of CSOs Pass Vote Of Confidence On Tuggar, Lampoons Faceless CSO On Zero Knowledge Of Diplomatic Processes

by Leading Reporters July 15, 2024
written by Leading Reporters

International Relations and Affairs Alliance IRAA, a coalition of international relations practitioners based in Lagos, Nigeria, led by Mrs Adewusi Bakare, has lampooned a faceless group for a lack of zero knowledge about diplomatic processes. The statement by the Coalition of Civil Society Groups and signed by Comrade Igwe Ude-Umanta erroneously pointed accusing fingers at Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar for recalling ambassadors and not appointing new ones. Ude-Umanta should note that Ambassadors serve at the prerogative of the President of a Country and not the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Their recall and appointment lie solely with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The group has shown zero knowledge of the process and serving the bidding of their paymasters.

Regarding Ambassador Lamuwa’s alleged sexual excesses, if the faceless group had followed the events, they would have discovered that Amb Tuggar was the first to draw the attention of the Head of Service to the matter and asked that she take charge according to the extant rules of the civil service. However, the group has mischievously left that out and is now turning it against the Honorable Minister. In this matter, the minister has acted above board to ensure that due process was followed.

Tuggar has led the process of the signing of 25 International MoUs that will, in turn, be highly beneficial to Nigeria across energy, business and investment sectors, has revived several bi-national commissions, finalisation the Basa agreement with the US, vigorous campaign of Nigeria in the inclusion of G20, United Nations Security Council and BRICS. Most importantly, a 14 billion USD investment from Indian investors across ICT, Power, steel and manufacturing, agriculture and defence, real estate and hospitality. Other investments attracted to Nigeria through Tuggar’s economic diplomacy include a 2 billion USD Investment from Germany for the Nigeria-Siemens Power Project and a 250 million Euros investment from the Netherlands to boost existing business in Nigeria.

International Relations and Affairs Alliance IRAA has warned interest groups to desist from tarnishing Nigeria’s image by writing outright fabrications to fight proxy wars on behalf of politicians seeking ambassadorial appointments, disgruntled foreign service officers and the disgraced and suspended Ambassador Adamu Lamuwa.

IRAA has said Tuggar’s Multipolarity approach to International Relations, which dealt mainly with Nigeria’s interests while relating to the US, EU, Russia, and China, was the best deal Nigeria could have now. It shows someone who is abreast of global diplomacy and must be supported to succeed in Nigeria’s interest.
