The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Olatunji Disu, has approved the deployment of 3,180 officers across the territory to ensure the safety and security of residents during the Christmas celebrations.
In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, the deployment aims to enhance visibility and security at places of worship, event centers, and other public spaces. Officers will also address potential security threats in identified black spots, uncompleted buildings, and shanties across the FCT.
Key measures include the deployment of Police Rapid Response Squads and Tactical Teams, stop-and-search operations, and both vehicular and foot patrols. The Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams will conduct security sweeps of critical government and public infrastructures.
The FCT Police Command is also working closely with sister security agencies to bolster public safety during the festive season. CP Disu called for cooperation between the police, religious leaders, and operators of recreational facilities to ensure a peaceful and secure environment.
CP Disu extended warm Christmas greetings to the Christian community and all FCT residents, assuring them of the command’s unwavering commitment to their safety. He also cautioned against the use of knockouts, fireworks, and firecrackers, which could create unnecessary panic.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the readiness of security personnel to provide comprehensive coverage and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
