Journalist To Stand on Trial for Reporting of Massacre of Christians in Nigeria

by Folarin Kehinde August 20, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

A journalist who wrote an article accusing the Nigerian government of failing to protect Christians threatened by armed militants was arrested and will be tried on charges of “cyberstalking.”

Luka Binniyat, a Catholic human rights reporter, is facing prison after writing an article in which the Nigerian government was criticized for its inaction in the face of an ongoing threat to Christian communities.

In the article, Binniyat reported on charges that Kaduna State’s Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, had mischaracterized the massacre of unarmed Christians as a “clash” between villagers and herdsmen.

Binniyat is set to stand trial before a Nigerian magistrate on Sept. 6. on charges of cyber stalking, aiding, and abetting the offenses of cybercrime, charges which he denies.

Arrested for reporting on massacre

Binniyat told CNA that his arrest was based on a complaint filed by Aruwan, over an article titled, “In Nigeria, Police Decry Massacres as ‘Wicked’ but Make No Arrest,” that was published Oct. 29, 2021, in the Epoch Times.

In the article, Binniyat reported on the mass killings of Christians in two Southern Kaduna villages. In the community of Madamai, 38 Christians were massacred Sept. 28, 2021, by armed Muslim Fulani herdsmen. A month later, in the Christian village of Jankassa, about three miles south of Madamai, armed herdsmen killed four villagers, according to Binniyat’s report.

The Nigerian official, Aruwan, issued a press statement the following day saying that the violence was the result of “clashes” between local villagers and herdsmen. The statement stirred resentment among Christians both in Southern Kaduna and in other Christian areas in the Middle Belt of Nigeria.

Binniyat quoted a Nigerian senator who disagreed with Aruwan’s assessment that the massacre was a “clash” between villagers and herdsmen.

“The government of Kaduna state is using Samuel Aruwan, a Christian, to cause confusion to cover up the genocide going on in Christian Southern Kaduna by describing the massacre as a ‘clash,’” Senator Danjuma Laah, who represents Southern Kaduna Senatorial Zone in the Nigerian Senate, told Binniyat.

Suppression of the press

The arrest and upcoming trial of Binniyat, are an attempt to silence journalists who speak out about attacks on Christians in Nigeria, says Robert Destro, a law professor at Catholic University and a former Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor during the Trump administration.

“No politician likes criticism, but most understand that a reporter’s job is to find the facts and report them honestly,” Destro wrote in an email to Catholic News Agency.

The stakes go up exponentially when a government is determined to hide the truth about official corruption by crafting an official political narrative or story that refuses even to acknowledge that certain problems exist. Poking holes in such official narratives can get you arrested — or worse,” he said.

Challenging the official “narrative”

Reporters such as Binniyat are challenging the government’s dominant narrative, Destro said.

“In Nigeria, the official ‘narrative’ is that the massacres of Christians in their homes and churches are the result of ‘clashes’ between peaceful cattle-herders who have been displaced from their traditional grazing lands by climate change, and farmers who object to their farms, villages, and towns being overrun by cattle,” Destro said.

“The reality is that Christians and other religious groups are attacked, without provocation or warning, by armed militants who kidnap, rape, plunder and kill. By calling these attacks clashes caused by climate change, the government simultaneously blames the victims, absolves the attackers, and has an internationally recognized excuse for doing nothing,” Destro added.

The Nigerian government, he said, rather than simply not protecting Christians, seems to be aiding and abetting the Muslim militant groups attacking them.

“Even a little digging into the facts on the ground shows that the government doesn’t simply turn a blind eye to the violence, it actively favors the attackers, many of whom are from favored religious (Muslim) and ethnic groups (Fulani),” Destro told CNA.

“When viewed from an ethnic and religious perspective, those murderous rampages through the countryside begin to look a lot like more like an organized land-grab which is designed to push local ethnic and religious groups off their land so that the invaders can control both the land itself and the resources it contains,” Destro added.

“Nigeria’s official narrative – which is parroted by gullible foreign governments like the United States, the UK, and the EU, is that there is nothing to see here but peaceful herders and farmers who are clashing because of climate change,” Destro wrote.

Binniyat and other members of the press need to be able to ask “who is supporting, financing, and protecting these criminals?” he said.

Journalist fears for his life

Speaking to the press in August after his trial was stayed until Sept. 6, Binniyat said he feared for his life.

“I am clearly a marked man, by the implication of my trial and I want the Kaduna state government to be held responsible should any harm come to me,” Binniyat said.

Human rights lawyer and Hudson Institute scholar Nina Shea says Binniyat’s arrest reveals the dire state of affairs in Nigeria.

“Kaduna’s Governor [Nasir El Rufai] has abjectly failed in his primary responsibility to protect every citizen in his state, and consequently we are now seeing a complete breakdown in the rule of law there,” Shea told CNA.

“Instead, he presides over a situation where journalists, like Luca, reporting on lethal violence, are themselves threatened and dragged into court under a cyberstalking law wielded as a weapon by a state official who claims to feel threatened by the news report. Meanwhile, President Buhari stands idly by as large regions of what should be Africa’s most important country are taken over by terrorists, jihadists, and criminals,” she said.

How N4.3 billion Utako District Hospital “Rots Away” More than 17 Years After

by Folarin Kehinde August 9, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

Kenny Folarin, Abuja

Without mincing words, the current health system in Nigeria and the yearly low budgetary allocation to the system is nothing but miserable.

This was clearly demonstrated during the COVID 19 pandemic which took the world by storm and Nigeria had to rely on imported vaccines despite large numbers of “brains” in the medical field that could salvage the situation.

The case of the Utako District Hospital outrightly exemplify the pitiable state of Nigeria’s health sector, the fact that the hospital is located in the Federal Capital Territory did not even bother present and past administration to complete the structure, rather Ministers in the FCT did not bat an eyelid on the issue.

The 220-bed hospital complex which has been standing in the district for more than 16 years currently in a deplorable state has several buildings at various stages of completion; among them are a two and three-storey buildings.

Several uncompleted structures within its walls have collapsed while the integrity of others still standing is uncertain.

While reptiles currently enjoy their abode in the building, farmers are not left behind but has taken advantage of the neglect to plant maize especially during the raining season.

Obviously, construction at the complex was suspended as the contractor has moved his equipment out of the construction site though some power generating sets have been left behind, Daily Trust reported in 2016.

The report further gathered that the construction and equipping of the hospital was awarded at the cost of over N4.3 billion to M/S PPC Medical Systems but the hospital is currently a shadow of itself.

Apart from the stench from water log and waste in the building which some people has turn as their resident and has been living there for years, it currently serve as a save haven for drug peddlers, rogues and hardened criminal, surprisingly, the hospital is not situated in a remote area but along the Obafemi Awolowo road, not far from the Arab junction in Utako.

While the Federal Capital Territory Administration remain aloof on the issue, the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) has lost direction in what should be done concerning the stench from the waste that always ooze out from the hospital and spread across the road to a manhole nearby.

The Abuja Municipal Area Council which is adjudged to be the richest council in the territory too is less concerned about the state of the hospital but would rather prefer to impose heavy permit on businesses and other private organizations without pity.

Notably, the administration is neither deterred by the health hazards that this poses to the public nor the security threat to lives and properties by criminals lurking in the hospital.

While the Nation continues to battle with her various and numerous challenges, the healthcare of her citizens still remain the most important for other sector to thrive on and should not be left in shambles like that of the Utako District Hospital, Abuja.

BREAKING: How NDLEA Busted Mkpuru Mmiri Labs In Lagos, Anambra, Nabbed Barons, Chemist – Marwa

by Folarin Kehinde August 2, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has busted and dismantled two major clandestine laboratories in Lagos and Anambra state where dangerous illicit drug, crystal methamphetamine, called Mkpuru Mmiri in local parlance, were produced for distribution across Nigeria and export.

Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) made the disclosure on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 when he addressed the media on the development. He said following the outbreak of crystal methamphetamine abuse in the last quarter of 2021, predominantly in the South East and the cry for help from many communities in the region because of the devastating effects the distribution and abuse of the dangerous stimulant drug were having on their youths and others, the Agency deployed all available assets to find the primary source of manufacturing of the drug in Nigeria and arrest the barons behind it.

Marwa said while efforts in the past seven months against the cartel behind the Methamphetamine scourge, have led to the arrest of four kingpins and a cook; “now, we have added two barons and another cook. This no doubt is a loud statement to those involved in the criminal illicit drug trade that it’s time for them to quit or risk losing it all; that is losing their freedom, investment and assets acquired through proceeds from the illegal business.”

He added, “I am pleased to inform the public today that, after months of painstaking intelligence gathering, diligent tracking and coordinated offensive action, we recorded a breakthrough on Saturday, July 30, 2022, when officers and men of the Agency successfully busted two methamphetamine manufacturing facilities, called Meth Laboratories.

“The first one, located in Victoria Garden City (VGC) Estate of Lekki, Lagos, is owned by a baron, Chris Emeka Nzewi, while the second, in Nise Community of Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State was owned by Paul Ozoemenam. The owners of these two illicit meth laboratories were successfully arrested alongside Sunday Ukah from Aba, Abia State, the cook or chemist that produced the drugs for them.

“The laboratory in Lagos was set up inside the Boys’ Quarter building of a four-bedroom duplex. From there, we recovered a total of 258.74 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and various precursor chemicals used for the production of the toxic drug. The complete paraphernalia of laboratory equipment such as gas cylinders, giant gas burners, industrial face masks, industrial gloves, tubes and flat-bottomed conical flasks, among others were also found.”

He said he needed to make the disclosure to raise people’s awareness of the danger that meth production constitutes to public health and the modus operandi of the barons involved in the unwholesome activity.

He observed that the owner of the laboratory in VGC, for instance, was producing the highly unstable and toxic drug in a house where he lived with his family, adding that the action speaks volumes about his insensitivity to the consequences of exposing his family, which includes a three-month old baby, to the danger of hazardous chemicals.

“In this particular case, aside from the laboratory being close to the kitchen of the main house, the waste from the laboratory was channeled into the septic tank and soak away in the compound, with a high risk of contamination of the water table of the entire neighbourhood.

“On average, the lab produced 50 kilos of methamphetamine every week with plans underway to increase the capacity of production to at least 100kg per week. Where do these drugs end? From our preliminary interrogation, we now know the drugs from this lab were both for export and local consumption. We also know there is a supply chain of distributors and buyers for export and the domestic market.

“When you consider the fact that the price of this dangerous drug was going for as high as US500, 000 per kilo in the international market in recent time, you will understand why Nzewi cared less to put the lives of his own family at risk by producing this in the same house where they live. Hence, taking these two labs out of operation is a major feat in our continuing effort to curb the meth problem”, Marwa lamented

The NDLEA boss said the lab busts also exposed the interconnectivity among syndicates involved in meth production, adding that the cook was hired by both producers to produce for the VGC lab, as well as the lab in Anambra.

He urged members of the public to be sensitive to their environment. “As we step up the offensive against drug traffickers, we want the public to be more vigilant and be aware of the fact that producers of methamphetamine always choose unsuspecting environments with tight security, like the VGC estate, in this case. And the reason is not far-fetched: They choose secured estates to prevent law enforcement agents from monitoring their activities. They also locate meth labs in remote unsuspecting communities where residents would not be aware of their activities.

Nise Laboratory premises
“It is very important to note that the waste from methamphetamine production is dangerous to the ecosystem. The chemicals are toxic and once they seep into the soil, they contaminate the water table from which surrounding wells and boreholes draw their water.  And citizens who unwittingly consume the water from such sources are exposed to heart and kidney ailments and other organ diseases. Neighbours, too, who inhale gases from the lab, are also susceptible to the same risk. What makes it worse is that the production usually takes place in the middle of the night, between 11 pm and 4 am, and therefore, unsuspecting neighbours could have been exposed to the hazards for months or even years.”

Marwa commended the professionalism of the intelligence led special units assigned the task, including the forensic experts and the 200-man strike force team who were the operational arm that executed the mission of dismantling the labs, seizing the crystal meth, precursors, paraphernalia and arresting the culprits

Exposed: Kastina State Guber Aspirant, MD Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company Abbas Masanawa’s Illicit Financial Transactions

by Leading Reporters May 15, 2022
written by Leading Reporters

In 2014, former President Goodluck Jonathan ordered a reform of the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company (NSPMC). While this breathed new life into the ‘near comatose’ corporation, many Nigerians were unaware that the CBN financial gang used this opportunity to install their stooge Mr Abbas Umar Masanawa as the Managing Director, despite his previous appointment as an Aide to the Central Bank Governor, which included numerous violations of the law.

Investigations revealed that on 2nd October 2012, while working in Zenith Bank, Mr Masanawa established Preferred Global Company with the registration number RC 1068515 and the address NO.16, Lakeview Homes, Kado, Abuja, FCT. The company’s board of directors includes Aminatu Abbas, Muhammad Abbas Masanawa, Faruk Abbas Masanawa, Al-Amin Abbas Masanawa, and Fatima Abbas Masanawa. Mr Masanawa struck gold two years later, in September 2014, when he was appointed by the Federal Government as the Special Assistant and Chief Liaison to the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Godwin Emefiele, his former boss at Zenith Bank.

He continued to operate the company utilizing it to move funds and execute contracts, with payments made to his bank accounts regularly in violation of the Federal Government Public Service Rules which states that public officers must not be Directors in private companies. A detailed investigation into Mr Masanawa’s dealings revealed that he operated an account with Eco Bank. Block 1, Flat FD Close, Gwarimpa, Abuja, is the address on the bank account with the number 3913000290, which also serves as his salary account where his allowances are remitted.

He also has two Zenith bank accounts with the numbers 2020023667 and 1020010820. Preferred Global Company Limited, which he established in 2012, has a First Bank account number of 2024061878. While the corporate address is No 16, Lakeview Homes, Jabi, Abuja, the phone number associated with the account to receive notifications, +2348035074700, has been validated as Mr Masanawa’s number.

Checks on Masanawa’s account from 2015, when he should have shut down Preferred Global or stepped aside as its director, revealed a lot, as he was running the company account on his own and transferring money regularly to his account. The large withdrawals and deposits continued in 2016 when a firm called Summit Signature Interservice, registered with RC 1337654 and located at No 3, Sambiero Crescent Maitama Abuja, was brought into the game.

Mr Masanawa caused N300 million to be paid from Preferred Global Business Limited to Summit Signature five months and three weeks after the company registration on November 17, 2016.  Summit Signature received N40 million from Masanawa’s company on December 1st of the same year. Fifteen days later, N40M was transferred from Summit Signature account to Preferred Global company account.

Interestingly, N300 million was paid from Preferred Global Company Limited to Summit Signature on the same day, with subsequent investigations detailing a consistent flow of funds between Preferred Global and Summit Signature. As an Aide to the CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele, Mr Masanawa continued in his impunity as he was also paying money into his company account, evidenced in an electronic funds transfer (NEFT) of N16.7 million he made on 7th September into Preferred Global Company account.

The year 2017 was a harvest for Mr Masanawa as he made massive withdrawals from the Preferred Global company account unperturbed. He took N6 million out of the account on March 15th and subsequently took N5.5 million out on July 10th, with another N11 million withdrawn on August 15th. Preferred Global wired N9 million to his account on November 8th as he received another N6M from the company on December 27, 2017. News source: Secret reporters

Gov. Wike financial largesse to churches for political support exposed: Anglican, Catholic, RCCG, Eckankar top list of beneficiaries

by Leading Reporters April 22, 2022
written by Leading Reporters

An unveiled financial records of Rivers State Government House account No. 1010610151 domiciled with Zenith Bank, Government House Rivers State has revealed how the governor of Rivers State and Presidential aspirant under the Peoples’ Democratic Party, Barr. Nyesom Wike recklessly doles out the state’s funds running into billions of Naira to churches in Rivers State for political supports.

Between 2016 and 2021, it is estimated that Governor Wike has doled out over Five Billion Naira to selected churches and societies in Rivers State without approval from the State House of Assembly.  Anglican Communion, Lutheran Church, and Catholic Church top the list of beneficiaries of Wike’s financial largesse to orthodox churches. These gifts may have validated Wike’s declaration of Rivers State as a “Christian State”.

Wike had, during a crusade organized by the Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Church in Port Harcourt, declared that Rivers is a Christian state. A declaration that incurred the wrath of Muslims and many Muslim groups both in Nigeria and overseas. His pro-Christian and anti-Islamic stand would definitely pitch him against the Muslim dominated North where the governor is currently touring, requesting for supports and votes in his presidential quest. Some Muslim stakeholders have always accused Wike of religious bigotry and sectionalism.

Investigation revealed that Wike is not a fan of Pentecostalism. However, available financial records revealed that Redeemed Christian Church received a large chunk of financial gift from Governor Wike. The money showered on churches by Wike is far much more than what has been deployed by the State Governor to develop human capital in Rivers State, according to financial records exclusively obtained by LeadingReporters.

Beneficiary-Churches, donations and dates:

The first religious organization to benefit from Governor Wike’s gift, upon being elected a Governor was Eckankar. Information gathered revealed that Governor Wike doled at the sum of N80,000,000 to Eckankar as donation to the society on 2nd November, 2016.  Christ Apostolic Church and St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Rumudaolu were gifted the sum of N100,000,000 and N70,000,000 on 22nd November, 2016 respectively. On the other hand, Cathedral Church of St. Mathias Diobu was given the sum of N200,000,000 on the 20th July, 2017, while St. Paul Nyemoni Lutheran Church received the sum of N30,000,000 from Wike same 20th July, 2017.

Others include St. Gabriel’s Anglican Church Bolo which received the sum of N30,000,000 on 12th September, 2017. Other beneficiaries include Anglican Church, Diocese of Niger Delta North which received in two tranches of N20,000,000 and N37,435,000 on 5th February, 2018. Another N20,000,000 was given same day to the women wing of Anglican Communion Diocese of Niger Delta North.  Wike also gifted a religious school Jesuit Memorial College via the school First bank account the sum of N100,000,000 and N60,000,000 as donation for Okrika Bible Project Fund Raising respectively on 18th January, 2018.

Rivers Baptist Church received the sum of N80,000,000 from Governor Wike for their conference while Redeemed Christian Church Region 5 bagged the highest donation of N200,000,000 and another N40,000,000 on 18th January, 2018. St. Anne’s Anglican Church Okujagu Rivers State via its First Bank Account received the sum of N30,000,000 from Governor Wike pro-church activities.

On 12th November 2018, Rivers Baptist conference gulped the sum of N150,000,000 from the Rivers State Government Account while a total of N167,170,000 was gifted to different Christian religious organizations on 29th September, 2018, according to findings by LeadingReporters.

The financial records revealed that Governor Wike gifted Bishop and Mrs Winston T. Iwo, via their GTbank account the sum of N10,000,000 and another N10,000,000 on 11th January and 1st November, 2019 respectively, while the Anglican Church Communion, Diocese of Niger Delta North was given the sum of N33,594,400 on the 1st of October, 2019.

Recall that Governor Wike once declared Rivers State a Christian State, not minding the fact that Nigeria is a multi-religious country with Christianity and Islam as major religious sects in Nigeria. However, Governor Wike appointed three muslims in his cabinet an appointment many considered to be a political move to create the impression that Wike is not entirely anti-Islam. Recall that Prof. Ishaq Akintola, the Leader of Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has consistently raised alarm against Governor Nyesom Wike’s anti-Muslim position, describing him to have been black-listed to hold any Federal position where Muslims are stakeholders.

Insecurity: Group asks FG to probe Wike’s special “Rivers State Command Security Operations Account” domiciled with First Bank Lagos

by Leading Reporters April 10, 2022
written by Leading Reporters

A group, League of Patriots has asked the Federal Government and the Nigeria security and intelligence agencies to probe a suspicious account run by Governor Nyesom Wike code named “Rivers State Command Security Operations Account domiciled with First Bank of Nigeria, Lagos, Account No 2022409801. The group said that through its intensive Intel, it gathered that Wike maintains a suspicious account from where he is believed to fund activities that may jeopardize the security situation in the country and thus help him prosecute electoral violence.

The group’s spokesman, Okey Richmond, in a communiqué obtained exclusively by LeadingReporters said that suspicious financial activities on the account with transaction description of “In Favour of Election” suggests that Governor Wike is using State fund to carry out activities that may be at variance with the national security arrangement.

The group said that the time has come to place desperate politicians like Governor Nyesom Ezemuo Wike on surveillance going by his antecedent and his bloodthirsty quest for power.

“Prior to the emergence of this democratic dispensation, insecurity of this scale was absent in the polity.  But what we are experiencing these days suggests to a large extent that insecurity are politics-induced and that politicians like Wike may not be free from funding activities that tend to devastate the polity for political gain.

The group promised to help the government at the federal level to expose all they know about Governor Wike financial activities that may expose huge perennial corruption in Rivers State.

“He made himself a demigod and runs the finances of the states as if it belongs to his family.  This is time to account for the least money that accrued to Rivers State under Governor Nyesom Wike”.  The communiqué read.

Exposed: How Gen. Buratai Thwarted Nnamdi Kanu Peace and Dialogue Offer To FG

by Leading Reporters August 21, 2021
written by Leading Reporters

The arrest of the Leader of Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has stirred different reactions from different quarters in Nigeria.

In the South East Region, the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu came as a shock to the youths and Kanu’s teeming followers.  In the Northern Part of Nigeria, Nnamdi Kanu’s arrest has been seen as one of the greatest achievements of the President Muhadummedu APC-led government.

hIn the midst of all these, most Nigerians did not know that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has at one point accepted to switch his separatist agitation for a dialogue and greater peace-building. This followed a patriotic move by two Nigerians – Mr. Allen Onyema of Airpeace and Mr. Danjuma Mohammed. The question arises, why did that peace move fail?  And who benefitted from all the war-like military activities across all parts of Nigeria, especially the Southern part?

Information has it that at the peak of the separatist agitation led by Nnamdi Kanu some years back, two patriotic Nigerians took the burden upon themselves to mediate.  They were not sent by the Federal Government, but they believed that a more humane approach could bring the healing hand of time.  Towards this, Mr. Mohammed Danjuma and Chief Onyema Allen (The Chairman and CEO of AirPeace) embarked on a dicey visit to Nnamdi Kanu’s home town Isiama Afara Ukwu in Abia State to meet with him on possible ways on playing down the separatist agitation which was already creating tension in the country.

According to a source who was in the know about the visit, seeing Nnamdi Kanu was like the camel passing through the eyelet of a needle as the duo of Mr Danjuma and Onyema were severally tossed around by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s security protocols. Nonetheless, they met with Nnamdi Kanu and appealed to him to go for negotiation with the Federal Government, instead of agitation to separate from Nigeria. All the cons and pros of the agitation were put down on the table.

“They arrived Afara Ukwu at about 2pm and only succeeded in seeing Nnamdi Kanu around mid-night.  His followers and bodyguards wouldn’t easily give away his location because they were not sure of the motive behind the visit.  But after several persuasions, including making pledge to pay with their lives if anything happens to Nnamdi Kanu in their course of their engagements and discussions.  These gentlemen lived to their promises and did the unexpected.  They convinced Kanu to toe the peace and negotiation path with the Federal Government”.

After the visit, several arrangements were put on ground towards addressing some of the immediate demands of IPOB.  Reconciliation meetings were initiated to be held among some youth leaders drawn from Arewa Youths, IPOB (represented by Nnamdi Kanu younger brother) and others from South West and South South Regions.

The whole idea was to use the youths to push for a more united Nigeria.  While that was going on, the selected representatives were gathered in Lagos to be tutored from mentored on peace-building and cohesive strategies by selected resource persons drawn from some International Non-Governmental Organizations, including those from King Martin Luther Jnr Peace Institute, USA.  Part of the arrangement was to fly these selected regional youth leaders to USA to be trained on peace-building.  Nnamdi Kanu and some of his key policy makers were involved in this understanding.  They consented to it and sent delegates for the training both in Nigeria and in USA.

The source said that the former Chief of Army Staff, General Turkur Yusuf Buratai on learning about the peace initiatives deployed his men who in turned arrested the younger brother of Nnamdi Kanu from among others who were at that point lodged in a hotel in Lagos.  Other participants in the peace building course consisting of Arewa and some Southern youths protested the arrested and clarified that the training had nothing to do with IPOB but about a way of building synergy for promotion of peace and unity in the country.

The source said that Buratai-boys turned deaf ear to the plea and picked up Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother.  This action irked attempts was made to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu’s brother.  But Gen. Buratai tactically killed the initiative and peace-moves and within weeks, launched his Operation Python Dance which saw a lot of Igbo youths being maimed, killed and manhandled.  That was the straw that broke the camel’s back and sealed the peace path that have been mapped out.

“Buratai intentionally foiled the peace-building efforts in preference for war.  War is money.  Each Python or Crocodile Dance goes with huge budget. Gen. Buratai represented repression of the emergence of youths in leadership positions. He worked against all peace initiatives that would have seen a more united, inclusive government”.  The source concluded.

A group, League of Patriots has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and other anti-corruption agencies to launch a probe on the alleged diversion of funds, using “loyal” staff accounts by the Director General of National Lottery Regulatory Commission NLRC, Lanre Gbajiabiamila.

In a petitioned from the group signed by its National and Diaspora Conveners, Abdul Madaki and Williams Diokpa respectively, the group alleges that financial records obtained by them revealed that Lanre Gbajiamile uses trusted staff to rout out funds running into hundreds of millions.

The group further alleges that Lanre’s impunity peaked after his elder brother Femi Gbajiamila became the Speaker of the Federal House of Assembly. Part of the petition read:

“National Lottery Regulatory Commission, led by Mr. Lanre Gbajiabiamila has been perennially enmeshed in untamed corruption. These include diversion of public funds, routing out money to Senate and House Committee members in the National Assembly, and cooked-up expenses, including unapproved travelling allowances, using names of staff he trusts.

While lottery has become a veritable platform for improved revenue for other nations, Nigeria lottery under Gbajiabiamila is currently being run as a one-man-show as records here reveals.

“This fraudulent act peaked between 2019 and 2020 when Lanre boasted before every staff of the commission that he has become untouchable with the emergence of his brother as the Speaker, Federal House of Representatives.  It was learned that he appealed to the staff to play along with him, promising to ensure that they would be well compensated if they cover up all they know that have been happening in the commission.

“For instance, the following staffs have received the under listed amount through their personal accounts which violates Federal Government financial laid down principles.  (For further details, please see the enclosed Expenses list of the commission)

5.Hassana AuduCPON25,734,800.00
6.Fumilola AkinlamiSec. To DFAN21,833,800.00

The group further alleges that records revealed that the DG uses the names of other staff to mop up fund which he gives Senate Committee members, including the Senate Committee Chairman on sports.  (See attached expenditure sheet).

“Further investigation revealed that Mr. Kabir Abdullahi received the sum of N64,000,000 in cash on 23rd and 24th October, 2019 which they claimed was used to acquire computer consumables, without board’s approval nor public bidding in line with public procurements standards.

The group further asked the anti-corruption agencies to investigate Lanre Gbajiabiamile and bring him to book if found culpable of the allegations of criminal diversion of public funds.
