Funke Akindele Faces Allegation of Poor Compensation by Comedian Ijoba Lande

by Nelson Ugwuagbo April 4, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

Nigerian comedian Ijoba Lande has accused popular filmmaker Funke Akindele of underpaying him after participating in one of her film projects.

In a video currently circulating on social media, Lande claimed he spent a month on set at Amen Estate but received only ₦90,000 in compensation. He alleged that he signed a contract he believed was a formality, only to later discover the payment terms were binding.

“I went to work for Funke Akindele in Amen Estate for one month. I was on set for one whole month,” he said in the video. “When I got there, the producer gave me a form to sign and I saw that I’ll be paid ₦90,000 every month. I was shocked, but I had already started working for them.”

Lande, who described his experience as disappointing, said he refrained from negotiating his payment upfront due to Akindele’s status in the industry. “I didn’t want to bill her because of her status,” he added. “But now, even if Michael Jackson asks me to work, I’ll let him know my rates.”

He further advised aspiring actors not to assume any job offer is a favour, urging them to clarify payment terms before accepting roles. “Don’t see anyone as a god,” he said. “If you really need me, you’ll pay.”

The comedian also disclosed that despite multiple appearances on set, he never took photos with Akindele, alleging that she did not make herself available.

As of the time of this report, Funke Akindele has not issued a response to the allegations.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Oluremi emphasized the significance of the tournament in promoting women’s participation in sports. In a statement issued by her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, on Friday, she commended the athletes for showcasing excellence and resilience.

“The athletes before us today perfectly embody what we advocate for – women boldly claiming their space and demonstrating that gender is never a limitation to excellence,” she stated.

She encouraged the players to see themselves as ambassadors of sports and role models for young girls across Africa.

“As you compete in this tournament, I encourage you to see yourselves as ambassadors of sports and of the limitless potential that lies within every African woman,” she said. “The discipline, teamwork, leadership, and resilience you cultivate as athletes are invaluable life skills that will serve you well beyond the volleyball court.”

Mbappe Will Be Real Madrid ‘Legend’ Like Ronaldo — Ancelotti

by Nelson Ugwuagbo March 31, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has expressed confidence that Kylian Mbappe has the potential to achieve legendary status at the club, similar to all-time top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Ancelotti stated that he believes the French forward can replicate Ronaldo’s achievements at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“What I wish for Mbappe is that he is capable of achieving what Ronaldo did at Real Madrid — and I think that he can do it,” Ancelotti said. “That means he will be a legend at Real Madrid, like Cristiano Ronaldo is.”

Mbappe, 26, joined Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain last summer and has equalled Ronaldo’s tally of 33 goals in his debut season with the club. The Portuguese forward, who joined Madrid from Manchester United in 2009 and departed in 2018 as the club’s record scorer with 450 goals, also netted 33 times in his first season.

Following his brace against Leganes in La Liga on Saturday, Mbappe described matching Ronaldo’s record as “very special.”

“We know what he means for Real Madrid and me. We speak, he gives me a lot of advice,” Mbappe told Real Madrid TV.

With Madrid still competing on three fronts this season, Mbappe has opportunities to extend his goal tally.

Meanwhile, Ancelotti’s side will host Real Sociedad on Tuesday in the Copa del Rey semi-final second leg, holding a 1-0 advantage from the first leg in San Sebastian. A victory would bring Madrid closer to the final and put Ancelotti on course to become the first coach to win the competition three times with the club.

“To be close to a final motivates me, it motivates the players and it motivates the club,” Ancelotti said. “It’s an achievement to play in a final in any competition, so to be so close, to have a small advantage, and because we’ll have the support of our fans obviously motivates us even more.”

by Folarin Kehinde March 26, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The winner of this year’s expanded Club World Cup in the United States will receive up to $125 million in prize money, FIFA announced on Wednesday.

A total prize fund of $1 billion for the event, which runs from June 14 to July 13, had already been made public, but FIFA has now broken down the sums for the 32 participating teams.

Each team will share in the $525 million pot for participating while a further $475 million will be distributed according to performance in the tournament.

With additional bonuses, the team that emerges victorious from the seven matches played could receive up to $125 million.

Europe will receive the lion’s share of the prize money, with each of their clubs receiving between $12.81 and $38.19 million, the exact amounts to be determined according to sporting and commercial criteria.

South American teams will each receive $15.21 million in participation bonuses, while those from North and Central America, the Caribbean, Asia and Africa will receive $9.55 million.

Auckland City, the Oceania representative, will take home $3.58 million for taking part.

“The distribution model… represents the biggest prize money ever awarded to a competition comprising a group stage and a knockout phase,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino in a press release.

“In addition to the prize money earmarked for the participating clubs, an unprecedented solidarity programme will be put in place with the aim of redistributing an additional $250 million to football around the world.”

Infantino said all proceeds from the event will be redistributed to club football.

I’m still not rich after 60 years in Nollywood – Jide Kosoko

by Folarin Kehinde March 24, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Veteran actor Jide Kosoko has stated that despite his fame and over 60 years of experience in Nollywood, it hasn’t led to significant wealth.

Featuring on The Honest Bunch podcast, Kosoko explained that he is comfortable but doesn’t consider himself rich by Nigerian standards.

“I have been in this [movie] industry for this long. I thank God that I can eat three square meals. But can I claim to be a rich man by Nigerian standards? No,” he said.

The 71-year-old film star emphasized that piracy has significantly impacted the Nigerian movie industry and called for harsher penalties for pirates.

“The punishment in the copyright law for piracy is still not strong enough as far as I am concerned. Somebody who has been pirating people’s works for years is a billionaire, so how much do you want to fine him?

“Fine him N500 million, and he will just bring it out of what he has sold. But if you attach a 20-year jail sentence to it with no option of a fine, people will refrain from piracy,” he said.

Jide Kosoko began his acting career as a child actor in 1964 in a television production named Makanjuola.

Since then, he has featured in hundreds of Nollywood movies in both English and Yoruba languages.

Refusal to marry a woman you deflowered leads to spiritual bondage, Olukoya warns men

by Folarin Kehinde March 23, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries (MFM), Dr. Daniel Olukoya has emphasised the spiritual implications of premarital s3x.

According to him, men who deflowered women, form a covenant with them, which can lead to a lifetime of spiritual bondage.

Dr. Olukoya warned that this covenant can also transfer demonic influences to future partners, causing havoc in their lives.

He stressed the importance of breaking this covenant to prevent its consequences from affecting future generations.

He said: “If you’re a man and you have disvirgined somebody or more than one lady. Don’t be surprised if your life is upside down. Because when you disvirgin a woman, you wet your male organ with the blood from that woman. So you have formed a covenant to that woman. So to now say you did not marry the person is a serious problem you have caused for yourself. It will go from generation to generation unless you break it. If the girl you disvirgin is now demonic, then you have formed a covenant with a girl and with a demon. And when you move over to another woman, the extra luggage you collected from that demonic girl, you transfer it to another girl that has no demon, that one too will collect”.
