FCTA Resident Doctors Suspend Indefinite Strike

by Nelson Ugwuagbo September 19, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

The Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Capital Territory Administration (ARD-FCTA), has suspended its indefinite strike.

President of the association, Dr. George Ebong, confirmed the development to reporters on Friday, saying members will resume work on Monday, September 22, 2025, by 8 a.m.

Dr. Ebong explained that the decision followed the intervention of the Senate Committee on Federal Territory Area Councils and Ancillary Matters, as well as in respect for the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

He, however, disclosed that none of the resident doctors’ demands had been met at the time of filing the report.

“The Senate intervened. Even though none of our demands have been met yet, they assured us that they will talk to the minister. We hope the minister will listen to us, because we respect him,” Dr. Ebong stated.

by Nelson Ugwuagbo September 17, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2025 internal Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

Announcing the results in Minna, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NECO, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, said a total of 818,492 candidates, representing 60.26 percent, scored five credits and above including English Language and Mathematics.

He disclosed that 1,367,210 candidates registered for the examination—comprising 685,514 males and 681,696 females—while 1,358,339 candidates (680,292 males and 678,047 females) actually sat for the papers.

According to him, 1,144,496 candidates, representing 84.26 percent, secured five credits irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.

Wushishi revealed that results from eight schools in Lamorde Local Government Area of Adamawa State were withheld following a communal clash that disrupted examinations between July 7 and 25, 2025, affecting 13 subjects and 29 papers. He said discussions were ongoing with the government to arrange fresh examinations for the affected schools.

The Registrar further disclosed that 38 schools across 13 states implicated in mass cheating would be invited to the Council’s headquarters for investigations before sanctions are applied.

In addition, nine supervisors—three each from Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory, and one each from Niger, Kano, and Osun States—were recommended for blacklisting over alleged poor supervision, aiding and abetting malpractice, lateness, unruly conduct, assault, and insubordination.

Yahoo Boys Worsening Visa Restrictions For Nigerians – EFCC

by Nelson Ugwuagbo September 17, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has warned that the growing wave of cybercrime is contributing to tougher visa restrictions for Nigerians seeking to travel abroad.

EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, said fraudulent activities not only endanger the future of perpetrators but also tarnish Nigeria’s image globally, leading to harsher travel conditions for innocent citizens.

Olukoyede, represented by Chief Superintendent of the EFCC, CSE Coker Oyegunle, spoke on Monday at an event organised by the Coalition of Nigerian Youth on Security and Safety Affairs in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. His remarks were contained in a statement issued by the commission on Tuesday.

According to the EFCC, crimes such as internet fraud, money laundering, and economic sabotage drain billions of naira from the economy annually—hampering growth, stalling infrastructure development, and denying citizens jobs and opportunities.

Beyond financial losses, the commission noted, these crimes damage Nigeria’s international reputation and expose citizens to heightened visa scrutiny.

Olukoyede urged young Nigerians, particularly in the South-South, to redirect their creativity and skills into legitimate ventures in technology, entrepreneurship, agriculture, and the creative industry.

“Fraud is not success; it is a trap. What comes easily often goes just as fast. Many who embrace cybercrime end up losing their freedom, reputation, and future. The law is catching up with them, and digital footprints never disappear. Don’t ruin tomorrow with shortcuts today,” he cautioned.

The EFCC chairman also reaffirmed the agency’s resolve to intensify awareness campaigns, strengthen enforcement, and deepen community collaboration in the fight against financial crimes.

Investigations, according to the police, confirmed that the object seen in the video was a stun gun, not a lethal weapon.

FG Suspends Controversial 4% FOB Levy on Imports

by Nelson Ugwuagbo September 16, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

The Federal Government has ordered the immediate suspension of the recently introduced Free On Board (FOB) levy on imported goods.

Finance Minister Wale Edun, in a directive issued late Monday, announced that the levy, introduced last month by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), would be put on hold following widespread concerns from businesses and trade stakeholders.

“Following extensive consultations with industry stakeholders, trade experts, and relevant government officials, it has become clear that the implementation of the 4% FOB charge poses significant challenges to Nigerian trade facilitation, the business environment, and economic stability,” Edun said in a statement.

The suspension comes after importers and business groups warned that the levy would raise the cost of goods, fuel inflation, and undermine Nigeria’s trade competitiveness.

They also argued that the additional charge would increase the cost of doing business and threaten the country’s fragile economic recovery efforts.

Rivers Government Begins Events to Mark End of Emergency Rule

by Nelson Ugwuagbo September 16, 2025
written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

The Rivers State government has begun activities to mark the expiration of the six-month emergency rule imposed in the state.

President Bola Tinubu had on March 18 declared a state of emergency in Rivers following a prolonged political crisis. The declaration led to the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the State House of Assembly.

With the initial six-month period set to elapse on Friday, September 18, there are strong indications that Governor Fubara and the lawmakers may soon be reinstated.

As part of the transition process, the state government will today, Tuesday, host a public lecture at the Government House in Port Harcourt. The lecture, themed “Democracy and Good Governance”, is expected to highlight lessons from the period of emergency rule.

According to a notice signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Ibibia Lucky Worika, the Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd.) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, CFR, will attend as Special Guest.

written by Nelson Ugwuagbo

The Department of State Services (DSS) has filed five criminal charges against activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore at the Federal High Court in Abuja, accusing him of defaming President Bola Tinubu.

The charges, filed on September 16, 2025, also list X Corp. and Meta, owners of X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook as co-defendants. According to the court documents, Sowore described President Tinubu as a “criminal” in several social media posts, while criticizing his claims of eliminating corruption.

No court date has been fixed for the matter.

Despite the charges and reported threats from the DSS, Sowore has refused to retract or delete the posts. He has maintained a defiant stance, insisting on his right to free expression.
