Rivers: Police shot dead vandals attempting to bomb pipeline

by Folarin Kehinde March 26, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Nigeria Police Command in Rivers State on Tuesday confirmed the killing of an unspecified number of suspected vandals attempting to vandalize a pipeline in the Rumuekpe Aluu community.

CP Olugbenga Adepoju, the Commissioner of Police in Rivers, revealed this to newsmen in Port Harcourt, stating that the suspects died on the spot.

He reported that the operation was part of the ongoing joint effort with other security agencies to safeguard Rivers.

Adepoju said: “The joint security forces successfully thwarted an attempt by miscreants to vandalise a pipeline, leading to the death of the vandals who sought to detonate it.

“The failed detonation was due to the swift response of security personnel to the incident at Allu-Rumuekpe in Ikwerre Local Government Area, LGA, of Rivers on March 16.”

Adepoju also disclosed that following the success, security forces proceeded to Onelga LGA on March 19, where they stopped another potential bomb attack by criminals.

According to him, two suspects were arrested in possession of four dynamites during the operation.

He added that the police also detonated pods, and other Improvised Explosive Device, IED, components.

“I will never apologize for speaking the truth” Natasha dare Senate

by Folarin Kehinde March 24, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi ‘Central) has urged the public to ignore the viral report claiming that she apologised to the Senate.

Natasha in a statement on Monday titled, “Re-purported apology to the Senate over my sexual allegations claim against Senate President Godswill Akpabio”, said, “I, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, stand firm in my resolve to never apologise for speaking my truth.”

She also said her six-month suspension is a “clear case of political victimisation”, but stressed that she would not be deterred.

Natasha was suspended by the Senate for six months recently for alleged gross misconduct, days after a face-off with Akpabio over a change of sitting arrangement in the chambers during plenary.

She consequently, accused Akpabio of making sexual advances at her and later petitioned the United Nations over the issue.

The Kogi Senator in the statement said, “I will continue to fight for the rights of Nigerian women and ensure that our voices are heard.

“The desperation to silence me is palpable, but I will not be intimidated. The games being played in full view of the Nigerian people will be exposed, and the corrupt individuals who have hijacked our institutions will be held accountable.

“As a senator, I have a duty to represent my constituents and uphold the principles of justice and transparency. My allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio were not made lightly, and I will continue to seek justice and accountability, no matter the cost.

“I urge the public to ignore the viral report claiming that I apologised to the Senate, as it is entirely false. I will continue to stand by my truth and fight for what is right, even in the face of adversity.”

Power Generation: We will copy Egypt’s model – FG

by Folarin Kehinde March 24, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Federal Government says it will learn power generation and transmission from Egypt which it described as a role model in the sector.

The government also has reaffirmed its commitment to rural development through improved electricity access.

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, disclosed this during a recent meeting in Abuja with the Egyptian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mohammed Fouad.

A statement by Adelabu’s spokesperson, Bolaji Tunji, said on Sunday that the meeting centered on strengthening bilateral cooperation in energy expansion, with a focus on renewable energy and rural electrification.

Adelabu commended Egypt’s achievements in the energy sector, describing the country as a role model in energy infrastructure development.

He expressed Nigeria’s interest in learning from Egypt’s experience in energy generation, transmission, and distribution, adding that the success in Egypt led to the engagements with Siemens with a view towards stabilising Nigeria’s power sector.

“Egypt has made remarkable strides in energy transformation, and we are eager to collaborate and learn from your expertise. Our goal is to ensure reliable, stable, and affordable energy access for all Nigerians,” he added.

Adelabu highlighted Nigeria’s efforts to connect remote rural areas to power through renewable energy initiatives, citing the economic challenges of extending the national grid to these regions.

“Many rural areas cannot be connected to the grid due to economic constraints, but we cannot neglect them. Through our renewable energy programme, we are bridging this gap. We have secured significant investments, including $750m from the World Bank’s DARES project and an additional $190m from the Japan International Cooperation Agency to support this initiative,” Adelabu stated.

He emphasised Nigeria’s abundant renewable energy resources, including solar, wind, and hydroelectric potential, expressing the government’s determination to harness these resources for sustainable energy access.

Speaking, Fouad expressed Egypt’s enthusiasm for collaborating with Nigeria, particularly in closing the metering gap and sharing best practices in energy access.

He emphasised the shared goals and mutual benefits of strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.

“Nigeria and Egypt have much in common, and there is immense potential for collaboration in the energy sector. We are committed to working together to achieve sustainable energy solutions for both countries,” Fouad said.

Emergency rule: Reps got $5,000 as ‘Sallah gesture,’ not bribe – Betara

by Folarin Kehinde March 24, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on FCT, Mukhtar Aliyu Betara, has clarified that he shared $5,000 with members of his committee as a “Sallah gesture” and not as an inducement to support emergency rule in Rivers State.

A Nigerian investigative journalist, Jaafar Jaafar, disclosed this in a post on his X handle.

Jaafar said Betara explained this to him after the lawmaker reached out to clarify that the $5,000 given to lawmakers was merely a “Sallah gesture” and not an inducement.

According to the investigative journalist, Betara said it was part of a long-standing tradition and had nothing to do with the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.

Jaafar wrote:

“The chairman of the House Committee on FCT, Mukhtar Aliyu Betara, has clarified to me that he only shared $5,000 with each member of his committee as a ‘Sallah gesture,’ not as an inducement to support emergency rule in Rivers State.

According to him, he maintains the tradition—like Santa Claus—every year.

“As we say in Hausa, not thigh but hind leg.”

However, several reports claimed that senators received a $15,000 bribe to endorse the proclamation of a state of emergency in Rivers State.

The rumors alleged that the senators received $5,000 on Tuesday and then $10,000 on Wednesday, the day before they voted on the proclamation.

I’m still not rich after 60 years in Nollywood – Jide Kosoko

by Folarin Kehinde March 24, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

Veteran actor Jide Kosoko has stated that despite his fame and over 60 years of experience in Nollywood, it hasn’t led to significant wealth.

Featuring on The Honest Bunch podcast, Kosoko explained that he is comfortable but doesn’t consider himself rich by Nigerian standards.

“I have been in this [movie] industry for this long. I thank God that I can eat three square meals. But can I claim to be a rich man by Nigerian standards? No,” he said.

The 71-year-old film star emphasized that piracy has significantly impacted the Nigerian movie industry and called for harsher penalties for pirates.

“The punishment in the copyright law for piracy is still not strong enough as far as I am concerned. Somebody who has been pirating people’s works for years is a billionaire, so how much do you want to fine him?

“Fine him N500 million, and he will just bring it out of what he has sold. But if you attach a 20-year jail sentence to it with no option of a fine, people will refrain from piracy,” he said.

Jide Kosoko began his acting career as a child actor in 1964 in a television production named Makanjuola.

Since then, he has featured in hundreds of Nollywood movies in both English and Yoruba languages.

Jail Break:12 inmates escape from Kogi prison

by Folarin Kehinde March 24, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Kogi state government has confirmed that Twelve inmates have escaped in a jail break in the early hours of Monday in the State.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Femi Fanwo.

Fanwo said the state government will work with security operatives to unravel the cause of the break as well as ensure that those escapees are rearrested.

He assured citizens that the government is taking decisive steps to prevent a recurrence.

“The theory that the inmates escaped through the tower without causing any structural damage raises serious concerns. This calls for a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the escape, arrest the fleeing inmates, and identify possible saboteurs within the system.

“Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has directed the State Security Adviser to collaborate with the Federal Correctional Centre and other security agencies to ensure such security breaches do not happen again. The state government has also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting federal security agencies through logistics and other necessary resources to enhance their operational effectiveness.”

Fanwo commended the swift response of security agencies in handling the situation and urged residents to remain vigilant. “We call on the public to report any suspicious individuals in their communities. Anyone found harbouring an escaped inmate will be held accountable,” he warned.

“While investigations continue, the government has assured residents that the situation is under control. “There is no cause for panic. We encourage citizens to go about their daily activities as normal, knowing that the security of lives and property remains our top priority,” Fanwo added.

written by Folarin Kehinde

There are reports that the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, is attending a Sunday service at Salvation Ministries in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

This development follows widespread speculation regarding his whereabouts since President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency last Tuesday.

Amid uncertainty, some reports suggested that Governor Fubara had relocated to the Bayelsa State Government House to reside for the six-month duration of the emergency.

However, his public appearance today provides clarity on his location.

President Tinubu had suspended the governor, his deputy and all elected members of the state House of Assembly over a prolonged political crisis in the state, citing a Brando of law and order.

Refusal to marry a woman you deflowered leads to spiritual bondage, Olukoya warns men

by Folarin Kehinde March 23, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries (MFM), Dr. Daniel Olukoya has emphasised the spiritual implications of premarital s3x.

According to him, men who deflowered women, form a covenant with them, which can lead to a lifetime of spiritual bondage.

Dr. Olukoya warned that this covenant can also transfer demonic influences to future partners, causing havoc in their lives.

He stressed the importance of breaking this covenant to prevent its consequences from affecting future generations.

He said: “If you’re a man and you have disvirgined somebody or more than one lady. Don’t be surprised if your life is upside down. Because when you disvirgin a woman, you wet your male organ with the blood from that woman. So you have formed a covenant to that woman. So to now say you did not marry the person is a serious problem you have caused for yourself. It will go from generation to generation unless you break it. If the girl you disvirgin is now demonic, then you have formed a covenant with a girl and with a demon. And when you move over to another woman, the extra luggage you collected from that demonic girl, you transfer it to another girl that has no demon, that one too will collect”.

BREAKING: Supreme Court declares Anyanwu authentic PDP National Secretary

by Folarin Kehinde March 21, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Supreme Court has nullified the judgements of the Court of Appeal and Federal High Court, which sacked Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

LEADING REPORTERS gathered that a five-member panel of the apex court on Friday held that the issue of who is the National Secretary of the PDP borders on the internal affairs of a political party, which is not justiciable.

Justice Jamilu Tukur, who delivered the lead judgment of the Supreme Court, consequently struck out the judgment of the trial court delivered in October last year and also set aside the majority judgment of the Court of Appeal, which had in December affirmed the sack of Anyanwu as PDP’s National Secretary.

Justice Tukur subsequently affirmed the minority judgment of the appellate court delivered by Justice Ekanem, which had nullified the judgment of the trial court on account of lack of jurisdiction.

Besides, the apex court held that the plaintiff, Aniagu Emmanuel, who initiated the suit at the trial court, lacked the necessary legal backing to do so, since he did not show how he was affected by who is the National Secretary of the PDP.

Details later…..
