Cristiano Ronaldo Charged By FA For Misconduct

by Folarin Kehinde September 23, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

Cristiano Ronaldo, the world-famous Manchester United star, has been charged for improper behavior.

He was charged with ‘improper and/or violent conduct following the incident where he appeared to knock a mobile phone out of a supporter’s hand.

The incident happened at Everton’s Goodison Park after Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat last April.

Footage shared on social media showed the Portugal international appearing to smash a phone out of a young fan’s hand as he left the pitch and headed towards the tunnel.

Ronaldo was cautioned by police regarding the incident in August and later issued an apology to 14- year-old Jacob Harding on his Instagram account, admitting his emotions after such a damaging result had got the better of him.

United have announced they will be supporting their player in response to the charge.

A statement from the FA read: ‘Cristiano Ronaldo has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 for an incident that took place after Manchester United’s Premier League match against Everton FC on Saturday 9 April 2022.

‘It is alleged that the forward’s conduct after the final whistle was improper and/or violent.’

Tinubu Offered Me Senatorial Slot To Join APC – Wike

by Folarin Kehinde September 23, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

Governor Nyesom Wike has revealed that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu had offered him a Senatorial ticket to decamp to APC.

Gov. Wike said that Tinubu came with the offer in order to woo him to support his presidential bid and join the APC. However, he refused because of his love for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Tinubu offered the ticket after Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the PDP failed to fulfil his promise after winning the presidential primaries.

Wike made this disposition during a media session in Port Harcourt.

The Rivers state governor accused the National Chairman of the PDP, Senator Iyorchia Ayu of manipulating the process that ensured Atiku won the presidential primaries in Abuja.

He claimed Ayu had encouraged many presidential candidates to step down for Atiku, a development which according to Wike gave Atiku the victory.

Wike however stated that despite the offer from Tinubu, he chose to stay in the PDP, adding that he did not contest the primary election to settle for a vice-presidential or senatorial ticket.

In his words, he said “I did not contest so I can become a vice presidential candidate, I am not like others who were not serious and bought senatorial form alongside presidential form and that’s why when Tinubu offered me a Senatorial slot, I didn’t go for it”

Russians Flee Country After President Putin Announce Mobilizaiton

by Folarin Kehinde September 23, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

A lot of Russians have been queuing up to leave the country after President Vladimir Putin announced a mobilization 300,000 reservists to join the war in Ukraine.

This mobilization is Russia’s first since World War two and one that has drawn a lot of criticism from leaders all over the world.

In a rare Television address to his nation, Putin declared a ‘partial mobilization’ of his country’s citizens.

He said: “When the territorial integrity of our country is threatened, we will certainly use all the means at our disposal to protect Russia and our people. This is not a bluff.”

“Those who are trying to blackmail us with nuclear weapons should know that the wind patterns can also turn in their direction, the president added – accusing the US and allies of seeking to destroy Russia.

After his address, google recorded a spike in searches like ‘How to leave Russia’ and ‘How to break an arm at home’. Also, there is a traffic jam at the border between Russia and Finland, as many desperate citizens try to flee the country to avoid mobilization.

The queue is reportedly more than 20 miles long and growing by the hour.

Independent journalist, Sotiri Dimpinoudis took to his social media to share first-hand footage of the traffic jam.

He said that the border is the only one still open to Russian civilians with Shengen visas.

Also, the mobilization announcement has led to an anti-mobilization protest by Russians in the city of Tomsk.

The addition of this troops would mean a major escalation of the Russian campaign in Ukraine, even as the Ukrainians are starting to chase Russia out of occupied territories.

ASUU To Appeal ‘Back To Work’ Court Order

by Folarin Kehinde September 22, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

The  Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) says it will appeal a court ruling which directed the union to call off its nationwide strike.

Delivering a ruling on Wednesday, Polycarp Hamman, the judge, granted the federal government’s application for an interlocutory injunction to restrain ASUU from continuing with the strike.

The judge ordered members of the union to resume work pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.

He held that the strike is detrimental to public university students who cannot afford to attend private tertiary institutions.

In a terse statement sent to members of the union on Wednesday by the Chairman of Lagos Zone of ASUU, Adelaja Odukoya, the union urged its members to “remain calm.”

Counsel to ASUU, Femi Falana, said the ruling will be challenged at the court of appeal.

Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has criticised the ruling, describing it as a betrayal of equity.

Giwa Temitope, NANS national public relations officer, said the court’s decision does not offer a permanent solution to the dispute and that lecturers cannot be forced to resume their duties.

Akeredolu Lambasts FG Over Kastina Security, Says Amotekun Will Bear Arms Soon

by Folarin Kehinde September 22, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has called out the federal Government over their double standards towards state security outfits in the Nation.

A video surfaced showing the Kastina security outfit openly obtaining Ak47 arms, while the Western Security Network was denied the right to bear arms by the federal government.

Akeredolu condemned this approach stating that denying Amotekun the rights to legitimately bear arms is a repudiation of the basis of true federalism which we have been clamoring for.

“That Katsina was able to arm its state security force, with the display of AK47 means we are pursuing one country, two systems solution to the national question.

“If the Katsina situation conferring advantages on some, in the face of commonly faced existential threats, it means that our unitary policing system, which has failed, is a deliberate method of subjugation which must be challenged.”

Governor Akeredolu said Nigeria’s independence agreement was based on a democratic arrangement to have a federal state and devolved internal security mechanics. We must go back to that agreement.

According to the Akeredolu, the southwest is facing life threatening security challenges, hence it is a necessity for them to protect themselves.

In his words

“It is also a deliberate destruction of our agricultural sector. It is an existential threat. We want to reiterate, that what is sauce for the goose, is sauce for the gander.”

The statement announced that the Ondo government, under the doctrine of necessity, “have decided to fulfil its legal, constitutional and moral duty to the citizens of the State, by acquiring arms to protect them”.

“This is more so, given that the bandits have an unchecked access to sophisticated weapons. The State government cannot look on while its citizens are being terrorized and murdered with impunity. We will defend our people.”

Yesufu Slams Mahdi – North Christians Are Tired Of Being Used

by Folarin Kehinde September 22, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

Popular and renowned Nigerian activist, Aisha Yesufu has responded to the viral video of Mahdi Shehu, calling it vile and disgusting.

Mahdi Shehu who is a Kastina activist, went to address Northern Christians and cautioned them never to vote for a candidate of Southern Extraction, most especially Peter Obi.

According to Shehu, northern Christians have no business voting for a southerner as the southerners don’t care about the north.

Shehu made claims that southern candidates don’t care about any Northern Christian. That they see anybody from the north as a northern and won’t hesitate to lynch them when they are breakdown of law and order.

He claimed that the agenda of Peter Obi is only for his tribe hence a vote for Peter obi is a vote for Biafra and the decimation of the north.

Aisha Yesufu in her own video, made a rebuttal and called the statements of Mahdi as shameful, distasteful and disgusting.

She tasked Northern Christians to looked at themselves and ask what they have benefitted from voting for northerners all this while.

According to her, Deborah Samuel, a northern Christian was murdered in Sokoto by fellow northerners. No Southerner was involved in her death.

“Where was Mahdi when Deborah was killed, did he condemn the act? Did he stand for Deborah?

Aisha expressed her disappointment that considering the insecurity and poverty faced by most people in the country, Shehu still had the audacity to play the ethno-religious card in the upcoming elections.

Where was Mahdi when people in the north were being killed in their homes, farms and place of worship. Was any southerner responsible for their demise?

She questioned Northern Christians to look at how the APC does not value them by selecting a muslim-muslim ticket in a diverse country like Nigeria.

When it was time to choose the vice-presidential ticket, many statements were flying around that the north cannot vote for a northern Christian, even as vice-president.

Now when they need your thumbprints, they remember that you are northern.

Aisha stated that the elites of the north do not care about northern Christians. She urged Northern Christians to disregard the statements of Mahdi Shehu and not to take the 2023 general elections as business as usual.

written by Folarin Kehinde

Massive flood has destroyed about 14,496 farms in five local governments of Kano State.

This information was revealed by the Director General of the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA), Mustapha Habib, during an on-the-spot assessment tour of communities ravaged by flood in Warawa and Wudil LGAs of the state on Wednesday.

Few days ago the popular, Tiga dam overflowed its banks, and flooded Kiru, Kura, Bebeji Wudil Rano, Warawa and Dawakin Kudu local government areas, where thousands of farmlands were submerged.

The affected communities are Warawa Gishiri Wuya, where 1,113 farms were washed away, Larabar Gadon Sarki with 1,135 farms affected and Wudil, which had 4,808 farms destroyed as a result of the disaster.

Other affected areas include Bebeji, 1,405 farms; Rano, 260 farms; and Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area, 5,775 farms.

According to Mustapha, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), had directed that an assessment of the damage caused by the flood be conducted immediately.

The Director-General gave the assurance that the assessment report would be compiled and submitted to the ministry of humanitarian affairs, disaster management and social development for onward submission to President Buhari.

The executive secretary of Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr Saleh Jili, explained that the increase in farm flood was a result of the spillway of Tiga Dam.

While speaking on behalf of the victims, Malam Nasiru Qayya, appealed to the federal government to assist them and also repair the road from Ladin Makole to Larabar Gadon Sarki Warawa local government.

INEC Rejects APC New Results On AMAC Elections

by Folarin Kehinde September 21, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Independent National Electoral Commission has completely rejected the results tendered to the FCT election tribunal by the APC, in a case against Hon Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, the winner of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) election.

Responding to the trial Judge in response to the authenticity of the result the APC tendered at the lower tribunal, INEC Council Barrister Umar Alhassan, represented by Hassan Aminu, insisted that the People Democratic Party, PDP, candidate who polled 19,302 votes to defeat Murtala Karshi of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who scored 13,240 votes.

The electoral umpire therefore, reaffirmed that the document it tendered at the lower Tribunal is the true reflection of what occurred at the February 12, 2022 FCT Area Councils election that announced the candidate of the PDP as the authentic winner of the election.

Also, at the three man Appeal Panel led by the Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Suleiman Belgore, INEC Counsel informed the Tribunal members that the result presented by their lawyers at the lower which upturned the Zakka’s election subsides.

However, in a clear dislocation of justice, the lower Tribunal had early on Friday, allocated over 21,000 votes to PDP’s challenger, Mr. Murtala Karshi with the current AMAC Chairman Zakka still maintaining 19000 votes.

Just In: Court Orders ASUU To Call Off Strike

by Folarin Kehinde September 21, 2022
written by Folarin Kehinde

The National Industrial Court has ordered the Academic Staff union of Universities (ASUU) to call off its seven months strike and return back to the classroom.

The order followed the granting of an injunction sought by the counsel to the federal government.

The federal government’s counsel, James Igwe, had applied for an interlocutory injunction to restrain ASUU from continuing with the strike pending the determination of the referral by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige.

In his ruling in Abuja on Wednesday, Justice Polycarp Hamman granted the government’s application.

He also dismissed the argument of Femi Falana, counsel to ASUU, that the interlocutory injunction should be dismissed and the court should instead grant an accelerated hearing for the referral earlier filed by Mr Ngige.

ASUU strike has been going on for over seven months as it commenced on the 14th of February, 2022. Negotiations between ASUU and the federal Government had been unsuccessful, prompting the Government to take the matter to the National Industrial Court.
