BREAKING: Nigeria Police Suspend Tinted Glass Permit Enforcement

by Folarin Kehinde January 2, 2026
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has suspended the nationwide enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy following an interim court order restraining the action.

The Force had announced on 15 December 2025 that the enforcement of the policy would resume from 2 January 2026, citing its responsibility to maintain public safety and internal security.

However, the NPF was subsequently served with an interim order in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, issued on 17 December 2025, which barred the Force from proceeding with the enforcement pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit or the vacation of the order.

In a statement on Thursday, Force Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that the police have entered appearance in the matter, raised preliminary objections, and formally applied for the vacation of the interim order.

The court has adjourned the case to 20 January 2026 for further proceedings.

The statement read in part, “In strict compliance with the subsisting court order, the Nigeria Police Force has placed the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy on hold nationwide, pending the decision of the court.

“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, reaffirms that the Force remains resolute in upholding the rule of law while protecting lives and property.

“The Force will continue to deploy lawful, intelligence-driven strategies to address security challenges and safeguard public safety across the country.”

The NPF assured the public that further updates and clear guidance would be issued following the court’s determination, in the overriding interest of public order and national security.

BREAKING: Court Jails Ex-AGF Malami, Son 48 Hours to New Year

by Folarin Kehinde December 30, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, his son, and a co-defendant at Kuje Correctional Centre, pending the hearing of their bail application.

Justice Emeka Nwite, ruling on an oral bail request filed by their lawyer, Joseph Daudu, SAN, emphasised that granting bail before the prosecution responds would undermine the defendants’ right to a fair trial.

The court adjourned the matter until January 2, 2026.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had earlier charged Malami, Hajia Bashir Asabe, and Abubakar Abdulaziz Malami with money laundering under case number FHC/ABJ/CR/700/2025.

Group Seeks Probe of Efficacy Construction Over Breach of Contract with Investors

by Folarin Kehinde December 30, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

A group, under the auspices of League of Patriots has called on the anti-corruption agencies, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission FCCPC, and other relevant government agencies to probe the activities of the management of Efficacy Construction Limited over series of complaints by investors who made payment for houses developed and managed by the company but have not had the houses allocated to them as agreed.

Following series of reports by investors, especially Nigeria diaspora investors, the group considered it expedient that unless there is timely intervention into these allegations, the investors may be on the part of losing their investments.

Speaking during the groups monthly telegraph meeting monitored by this media platform, the League’s Regional Secretary, Europe, Ben Kosiso frowned at the situation where people work hard and invest their monies in their home country only to be frustrated by the so-called wealth managers and developers.

“As a group that protects the interest of Nigerians, especially those in diaspora, we can no longer sit and watch our brothers and sisters who daily work hard and survive under tough conditions to lose their investments at home.

“At least, we have received more than five petitions from our members in Asia, Europe and America complaining about how the management of the Efficacy Construction continues to default in the agreement the company had their investors over some property in Lagos State.

“When a company finds it convenient to seamlessly renege on agreements again and again, it becomes worrisome going by what is happing in our home country these days.”. he stated.

This has continued to erode the confidence of most Nigerians in diaspora who are afraid to commit their hard-earned monies in our home country because of trust issues and government’s inability to ensure that Nigerians investments are protected whether at home or outside of Nigeria’s shores.

“This company, from what we gathered uses realtors/estate agents with deceitful commercials and adverts to lure diasporans into plugging their funds only for them to begin to dilly dally in delivering the buildings. We have reports of Diasporas who have made upfront payments running into two years without the paid houses allocated to them.

The group called on the anti-corruption agencies – The Economic and Financial Crime Commission, the ICPC and FCCPC to wade in and ensure that people do not lose their investments to people of questionable characters.

“Issues like this bring bad name to our dear country. This group stands in the gap between Nigerians living in diaspora and at home. What we do is to ensure that negative narratives are halted.

By doing so, we always reach out to concerned parties and ensure that issues do not escalate and discourage others who want to heed the call of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to think and invest home.

“If the company does not deliver and compensate those investors in line with the agreement, we would have no other options but to resort to every legal means in partnership with the investors and ensure that they do not lose their investments.”.

All efforts to reach the developer through their given contacts were unsuccessful as at the time of filing this report.

Trump: More strikes ahead after U.S. targets terrorists in Nigeria

by Folarin Kehinde December 26, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

President of the United States, Donald Trump, has announced that the U.S. military carried out airstrikes against terrorist hideouts in Nigeria.

Trump made the announcement on Christmas Day, stating that the operation targeted ISIS-affiliated terrorists operating in Sokoto State, in North-West Nigeria.

He described the strikes as “powerful and deadly” and warned that more attacks would follow.

According to Trump, the operation was launched after repeated concerns over the killing of Christians in Nigeria’s North-West and North-Central regions. In November 2025, he had publicly condemned the attacks and warned that his administration would take action if the violence continued.

Following consultations and deliberations with Nigerian authorities, both countries reportedly reached agreements on counter-terrorism cooperation. The U.S. government later confirmed that the airstrikes were carried out on Thursday night in terrorist hideouts located in forested areas of Sokoto State.

“In my direction as Commander-in-Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS terrorists in North-West Nigeria,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

He added that his administration would not allow radical Islamic terrorism to thrive under his leadership.

Christmas: FG reduces train fare by 50%

by Folarin Kehinde December 24, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Federal Government has approved a 50 percent reduction in train fares nationwide to ease travel costs during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Kayode Opeifa, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Lagos.

Opeifa said the fare reduction took effect on Tuesday and has already recorded a high passenger turnout across major railway corridors.

“At major stations along the Lagos–Ibadan and Abuja–Kaduna routes, as well as key narrow-gauge corridors, passengers turned out in large numbers, with several departures operating at near full capacity as early bookings reflected strong public response to the 50 percent discount initiative,” he said.

He said the festive rail service will run from December 23 to January 4, 2026, during which passengers will enjoy a 50 percent discount on train fares nationwide.

“This is to ease the cost of festive travel during the yuletide period,” Opeifa said.

The NRC Managing Director said many passengers have commended the initiative, describing it as timely and economically relieving, particularly for families and group travellers seeking to reunite with loved ones.

He said the fare reduction aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing it as a people-focused intervention aimed at reducing transportation costs and promoting inclusive mobility.

Opeifa assured passengers of the corporation’s readiness to sustain safe, efficient and customer-focused services throughout the festive season.

He said both standard-gauge and narrow-gauge train services are fully operational nationwide.

“It will come with enhanced security, safety and customer service arrangements in place across stations and onboard trains to manage increased passenger traffic resulting from the 50 percent discount offer,” he said.

Opeifa advised passengers on standard-gauge routes to continue using NRC-approved online booking platforms, while those on narrow-gauge services should purchase tickets directly at designated railway stations.

He said the NRC remains committed to seamless festive operations and urged passengers to cooperate with railway officials and comply with travel guidelines to ensure smooth journeys during the yuletide period.

Power outage temporary, supply to return after Christmas – FG

by Folarin Kehinde December 24, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Federal Government has assured Nigerians that the current power outage being experienced in parts of the country is temporary, saying electricity supply will be restored within the next 48 hours.

The assurance was given by the Minister of Power, Mr. Bayo Adelabu, in a statement shared on the verified X (formerly Twitter) handle of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, @NationalGridNG.

According to the minister, relevant agencies are already working to address the issues responsible for the disruption, stressing that the situation is under control.

Adelabu appealed to Nigerians for patience and understanding, noting that efforts are being intensified to ensure the stability of the national grid and prevent prolonged outages.

He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving power generation, transmission and distribution across the country, adding that updates would be provided as restoration work progresses.

The recent outage had sparked concerns among residents and businesses, many of whom rely heavily on electricity for daily activities.

Power supply, the minister assured, is expected to return fully within 48 hours.

FG insists on death penalty for kidnappers

by Folarin Kehinde December 23, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Federal Government has dismissed opposition by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to the proposed death penalty for kidnappers and bandits, saying the punishment is consistent with Nigerian laws.

Minister of information and national orientation, Mohammed Idris, spoke on the issue on Monday at the Federal Government’s end-of-year press conference in Abuja.

Idris said the government would act strictly within the law and would not pursue any policy that contradicts Nigeria’s legal framework.

His words: “The Nigerian government will not do anything that is not consistent with the laws of the nation.

“If there is a need to adapt or to modify these laws, we have the national assembly to consult and to take them so that we can have a response, but for now it is important to say that Nigeria as a sovereign country has its laws and is being governed by these laws, and all the operators, including the security agencies, are acting within the ambit, within the parameters of those laws.”

The minister said the national counterterrorism doctrine unveiled this year is anchored on four pillars — unified command, intelligence, community stability and counterinsurgency.

He said under the doctrine, any armed group involved in kidnapping, attacks on farmers or terrorising communities would be treated as a terrorist organisation.

“Let me be clear about what this means: that henceforth, any armed group that kidnaps our children, attacks our farmers, or terrorises our communities is officially classified and will be dealt with as a terrorist organisation. The era of ambiguous nomenclature is over,” Idris said.

Addressing concerns about human rights violations, Idris said he could not reconcile human rights arguments with acts of terrorism and mass violence.

“I don’t know how human rights will stop you first when somebody comes into a room and randomly starts shooting at people,” he said.

He added that Nigeria must defend itself while observing globally accepted rules of engagement.

“Nigeria has to defend itself as a country, observing the highest standards of procedure. All our armed forces are trained, they collaborate with international partners and they are following strict protocols of engagement with terrorists or whoever they are engaging with,” the minister said.

He said where there are specific complaints about the conduct of security agencies, such issues should be raised and addressed through appropriate channels.

The minister also spoke on Nigeria’s relations with the United States, saying the recent diplomatic disagreement had been resolved through what he described as firm and respectful engagement.

He added that the N5.41 trillion allocation to defence and security — the largest in Nigeria’s history — is aimed at protecting lives and property through modern equipment for the armed forces, a new national intelligence architecture and a secure digital border surveillance system.

Drug tests compulsory for public service job applicants – FG

by Folarin Kehinde December 23, 2025
written by Folarin Kehinde

The Federal Government has introduced compulsory pre-employment drug testing for all applicants seeking jobs in the public service.

In a statement issued by the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Segun Imohiosen, the government said the policy is part of broader efforts to curb the rising rate of drug abuse and its impact on national security and productivity.

The statement directed permanent secretaries and heads of ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), as well as extra-ministerial departments and parastatals, to include drug screening as part of their recruitment processes.

According to the directive, MDAs are to collaborate with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in conducting the tests, in line with approved standards.

The government said the policy was informed by growing concerns over substance abuse, particularly among young Nigerians.

It warned that the trend poses a threat to public health, socio-economic development, workplace efficiency and national security.

It added that the directive underscores the administration’s commitment to safeguarding the public service from drug-related challenges and aligns with existing anti-drug initiatives, including recent policies mandating drug testing in universities and other sectors.
