The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the rescue of 15 abducted National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, members and six other victims following a joint security operation in the state.
Four suspected kidnappers were killed during a gun battle with security operatives in the course of the rescue operation.
The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, Naziru Kankarofi, disclosed this while speaking to newsmen.
Kankarofi said security agencies swung into action immediately after receiving reports that the victims had been abducted.
“As soon as we were alerted, we put all necessary measures in place to ensure they were rescued and returned to their families,” the police commissioner said.
He explained that an emergency meeting was convened involving the Brigade Commander, the Commissioner of Police and the Director of the Department of State Services, DSS, to coordinate the rescue operation.
According to him, the coordinated response by the security agencies led to the successful recovery of the victims, while four suspected members of the kidnapping gang were neutralised during the ensuing exchange of gunfire.
