Tyla Beats Nigerian Heavyweights to Win Best African Music Performance at 2026 Grammys

South African singer Tyla has emerged victorious ahead of several Nigerian music heavyweights to win the Best African Music Performance award at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards held on February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

The category featured strong Nigerian contenders, including Burna Boy for Love, Davido featuring Omah Lay for With You, and Ayra Starr alongside Wizkid for Gimme Dat. Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin were also nominated for Hope & Love.

Tyla’s latest victory marks her second win in the category, having previously secured the inaugural award in 2024 with her global breakout hit Water, making her the first artiste to win the honour twice since its introduction.

The win further cements the Johannesburg-born singer’s rising global influence and strengthens her position as one of Africa’s most successful young pop exports on the international stage.

The Best African Music Performance category was introduced in 2024 to celebrate recordings that showcase African music, with Nigerian singer Tems winning the award in 2025.

Since signing with an international record label in 2021, Tyla has continued to achieve major global milestones, including a top-25 debut on the Billboard 200 and widespread international chart success.
