Terrorist on Tuesday attacked a motorcade of Haji Pilgrims from Isa local government in Sokoto state and allegedly killed three police officers.
The Pilgrims were said to be converging in Sokoto to set off to the holy Land in Tuesday for the 2022 pilgrimage when they were attacked by the terrorists.
Sources said the aim of the terrorists was to kidnap the Pilgrims but they we’re repelled by the team of security personnel accompanying the intending Pilgrims.
The security officers were said to have engaged the gunmen in a gun duel for several hours thereby stopping them from abducting any of the intending Pilgrims.
Confirming the incident, the Sokoto state government has said that the Pilgrims had been rescued and were unscathed.
The State government has yet to confirm the killing of the security personnel, and efforts to reach the state Police command to confirm the report proved unsuccessful as calls to the command public relations officer, DSP Abubakar Sanusi’s mobile line have not been returned.
