BREAKING: Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde loses brother

Oyo State Governor Engr Seyi Makinde has announced the passing of his older brother, Engr Sunday Makinde.

The 65-year-old engineer died in the early hours of Friday, January 24, 2025, at his residence in Ibadan.

The news was announced by Chief Olumuyiwa Makinde, a younger brother of the deceased and the Bada Olubadan of Ibadanland.

In a statement, Chief Makinde said, “With a heavy heart, I announce the passage of my older brother, Engr Sunday Makinde, to eternal glory today, Friday 24th of January 2025.

“His sudden death occurred in his Ibadan residence at 3.20am today, Friday 24th January 2025.

“He is survived by siblings, among whom is the Executive Governor of Oyo state, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, children and grandchildren.”

Oyo Governor Set to Present 2025 Budget on Wednesday

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is set to present the state’s 2025 Appropriation Bill to the House of Assembly on Wednesday.

It was gathered that the budget presentation by Governor Makinde before the Oyo State lawmakers will take place at the House of Assembly Complex, Secretariat, Agodi in Ibadan.

The budget presentation by the governor is a sequel to Stakeholders’ Consultative Forum Meetings that have occurred across the five zones of the state.

At the meetings over the 2025 budgets, there were inputs from several residents of the state.

Speaking on the implementation of the 2024 budget, Makinde said that its performance had hit 64 per cent by November.

Governor Seyi Makinde Escapes Death In Car Accident As Driver Dies

A driver attached to one of the vehicles in the convoy of Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde died in a crash on Tuesday.

Three others in the convoy were also injured when the Governor was returning to Ibadan from Saki where he had gone to attend a town hall meeting with members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of his reelection bid.

It was gathered that the driver identified as Ramon Mustapha died on the spot after he was flung when his vehicle eventually landed after tumbling several time.

A source said the situation could have been saved had the driver used his seat belt.

Another source, who was part of the convoy but asked not to be named, said the late driver smashed his head in the unfortunate accident.

It was learnt the crashed vehicle with the code name “Zebra 4” somersaulted throwing off some bags of rice bought by some individuals on the trip.

The remains of the driver were later buried at his Amuloko, Ibadan residence on Wednesday according to Islamic rites.
