The specialist crime team of the metropolitan police in London has detained former Senate president Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice.
The reason for their arrest was for allegedly conspiring to harvest the organs of a child in the UK.
The media reported that “Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu and Ike Ekweremadu have been remanded in custody and will appear at Uxbridge magistrate court today.
Charges were brought against the pair who are from Nigeria following an investigation by the metropolitan police specialist crime team.”
The investigations began after detectives in the UK were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May, 2022.
The child involved is now been safeguarded.
